  1. I contemplated that, but the tuner recommended I upgrade the main shaft, as he's seen a few half shafts let go when the sticky tyres come into play. Besides, I won't drive around regularly with drag radials on anyway, so I wanted to do a run completely in street trim.
  2. Mine is an Auto ZF6, putting out about 450rwhp, but I havent taken it back to the track in a long time. The 12.2 run was complete street trim, including stock tyres at 38psi (for the tyres!) I might do another run when I get a chance and see if maybe I was doing something wrong.
  3. I'm also a bit sceptical. Mine stock ran a best of 12.8, and with a custom tune, exhaust and turbo mods, the best I got out of her was 12.2 on a good night. So 12.13 is a really good time but there are possibly some mods been done that the owner is unaware of. Especially if you bought the car second hand. Take it to Ford and they can tell you whether the ECU has been flashed and how many times.
  4. I think the calculation of horsepower that I read was meant to be on a standard dynomometer. I'm sure there would be some sort of engine dyno that would be able to measure the power, just not sure if they bothered with it?
  5. I agree with FPV TRANNY, sell the car to a good mate for like $100, then attend court, upon which you can honestly tell the magistrate the car is no longer in your possession. Once the fine is passed down and your day in court is done, buy the car back for the same amount, and all should be well in the world again. Also, since he does have your history, if there are no drink driving offences, you can try and use that in your favor as well, saying to the magistrate that you can be slightly irresponsible at times, but never as bad enough as to drive under the influence of alcohol. All the best mate, hope it works out well! Where you located? I'll come cheer for you in court if you're in WA! Anything for a fellow car lover and FPV owner!
  6. Cheers wombat, It's crazy how much power they make, and an interesting fact I read today was that they are only roughly 8000hp, the true figure is unknown since there's no Dyno big enough to actually measure their power!! What a feeling that must be to drive that!
  7. Hi guys, I know a top fuel dragster can beat a super car / F1 over the 1/4 mile from a standing start, even if the other car had a 200kmph rolling start. My question is does anyone know where I can find footage of such an event? Apparently it was done and was on the web for a while, but if can't find it anywhere! Cheers guys!
  8. I think e85 is a different mixture of ethanol and petroleum to burn differently to make more power. I'm not sure if we over here in the west have e85 like they do over east. I was speaking to a mate of mine running a GT-R34, and he's getting his e85 from QLD? if anyone here in the west can comment as to whether we get it or not and where from?! Other thing to be concerned about is that because they burn differently, everytime you change fuels between e85 and normal 98 RON, you have to change the tune of the engine, or you could end up with a catastrpophic failure! Simon should be able to explain in greater detail as he's the pro! Hope this helped!
  9. I was running 19psi with the factory dump valve, but it was boost spiking quite badly, so it was de-tuned back to 17psi..but I have since replaced the blow-off but have not been back for a tune..can't justify the $1000 for just a gain of only 2psi or more! When I save up a bit more cash, I'm thinking of replacing the stock cooling system to eliminate the heat soak issue, as recommended by XFT, and I'll have her re-tuned then!!
  10. Yep, that's pretty much what happened to me here in the west (go figure!) There was miscommunication between the tuner and the guy who did the modifications. So the tune was around $1000 for the day, and still had to go back a few times because of boost spiking issues! Luckily I didnt need to pay for the other times it went back!
  11. Same problem in my F6..I already checked with Ford, and they had an appraisal done on it from the warranty clerk. basically its wear and tear of the seat so they won't replace it. I spoke with an upholsterer and he said they can rectify it with "pretty much the same leather" for a couple of hundred bucks. I have also gotten some cracks in the seat where you slide into it on the driver's side, around where the tag saying "SRS AIRBAG" and this is one of the things that can't be avoided, apparently.
  12. Start with a full turbo back exhaust and go from there. The place I went to also installed new injectors, fuel pump, and some wastegate modifications, plus a tune. You'll need a tune regardless of what you do, so better to do it all in one hit, then you only pay for a single tune. Depending on the tune, and how much boost you want to run, you should be able to get around the 350rwkw mark. Depending on where you go for your modifications, you will be looking at around $5k + including all the parts and labor. so budget well, as from what I understand, some tunes cost around the $1000 mark every time you take it there..again this will be dependant on the arrangement you have with your tuner! Good luck!
  13. Hello all, I have a friend with a 2010 Ford Fiesta, and she would like to have her speakers in the doors replaced. Short of taking off the trim, can someone please tell me what size the factory ones are? I'd rather remove the trim once, for install, to reduce the risk of damage. Also, if anyone has done this install, which speakers did you find the best to use? Thanks for any help guys! Regards, Yoz.
  14. Nope, didn't end up getting any roof racks fitted.. The guy at the 4wd shop says there is a set made by Rhino http://www.rhinorack.com.au/Vehicle_FORD_Falcon_4415.aspx but they're not for FPV, just the std FG Falcon, which is pretty much the same car anyway! I didn't end up going with these ones cause of the possible risk to the seals around the doors, but I suppose they wouldn't be that bad. I'll attach a photo of what they should look like! Hope you have more success than I did!
  15. Heres a few pics of my F6 on the awesome WA freeway. Most of the time it sits around 8.5L to around 9.0L/100km But obviously when I put the boot down those numbers go right out the window! Besides, I didn't buy it for the fuel economy, if you want good mileage..buy a prius!
  16. Hey there guys, I need to find a way to transport mine and the misses' bikes for our triathlons, and fitting a tow bar to my F6 is NOT an option! So I was wondering if anyone has any type of roof racks fitted to theirs? or if they've seen/heard of where I can get one installed? some prices would be nice too! Cheers!
  17. Yeah I know hey! it was slipping really badly! got it filled up using the proper procedure from Ford, and now its doing well! only drove it home yesterday and left it in the garage in the light of the approaching storm, and I didn't want any hail damage like year before last year! so tomorrow I'm going to give it a bit of a hiding on the freeway and see how it goes..slippage wise!!
  18. Ford Transmission oil, I saw the bottle myself, its the standard stuff that came straight from Ford for the FG ZF 'boxes, Grenville picked it up himself. To be honest, I wouldn't mind at all doing a transmission fluid flush, cause lets face it, I nearly spent 8 grand redoing the bottom end, so $600 for a fluid flush isn't near as much as that, so I'm happy to pay that!
  19. Hey guys, after driving the car around for the last couple of days, I noticed it slipping quite a bit in 1st to second, and a little from 2nd to 3rd.. Because the 'box has been pulled out, about 2L of transmission oil leaked out. they topped it up, but it would only take 1L. Grenville said to watch out for slippage, so I took it back yesterday morning, and still could not fit any more oil into the gearbox? Should the car be running in gear when this is happening maybe, so the oil has a chance to get around everywhere? or am I looking at a transmission fluid flush? is there any other reason the 'box is slipping? perhaps there was damage to the flex plate when the bolts came loose? Cheers!
  20. that's really sad for the automotive community, since all the good mechanics are headed out for better prospects (mines, rigs etc) where they are able to earn 10x more for much more interesting work! I think that's part of the reason Grenville left, because he had enough of Ford's sh*t, so he started his own business, and I'm glad to say, he's done a great job so far! its really hard to find a good mechanic who knows what they're talking about, and not only that, he's a really nice down-to-earth guy who lays it all on the table, and NO bullsh*t! The dealer I took it to was Titan Ford on Leach Highway in Melville, WA. Grenville used to work there as a Service Advisor before he left, that's why he told me to take it there, as it was close to his place as well, just in case I had any issues with them. And good thing too, he actually went down there, and had a chat with the managers to try and explain what had happened, and try and make them see it it wasn't a bottom end issue. He actually said to them "prove it was my modifications that did this, and he'll happily walk away!" But all they could come back to was the fact that it was flashed, and "it clearly states in the manual if you flash your ECU, your mechanical warranty is void!" They didn't offer to have a look at it, matter of fact, I actually did ask the service advisor if he could diagnose it furthur, cause all he said was "you've done a bottom end and Ford don't repair motors, they replace them...etc..." and he said "Mate, you're not gonna pay me to pull this (the engine) apart," I assumed cause it would cost a lot of money! Joel, you rekon I should get a new flex plate? I've already settled with Grenville, and the 'box is already back together. He said he had a good look at it and it was still good, that's why he also used the original bolts cause there was nothing wrong with them! I did ask him if I needed to change it, and he said if it was a manual, yes it would pay to do it, but the ZF doesn't need it to be done. so do you still think I should go for the atomic plate?
  21. Yep, we're looking into it now, my dad's best mate is a lawyer and they're catching up tomorrow, so they're gonna have a little chat about what happened, going back on monday to Ford and gonna try and make them pay for the labour to R + R the gearbox, since the modifications CLEARLY had nothing to do with this issue, and it was all their fault for not applying loctite on the bolts. hopefully they'll play ball cause it wasn't a huge bill, so they should cover it!
  22. Well you guys are not going to belive this... I picked up the F6 on wednesday from Ford, and took it straight to the mechanic who worked on it. He put it straight up on the hoise and had a good listen to it, and finally said, that he was CONVINCED its not the bottom end that's gone. so I left it with him, and he called me thursday arvo to say that he just found 2 torque converter bolts rattling loose in the 'box, and the other 4 were so loose, he pulled em off with his fingers! no loctight on them at all! so he inspected the bolts, they were still good, and put some loctight on them, torqued them back up to spec, and put the box back together with a litre of ZF Oil! I went over there this arvo and picked it up, and she drove fine! He just saved me a possible $8600!! I just can't believe they went straight to saying that the bottom end was gone and I need a new motor, without even offering me the option of opening up the box to see if it actually was the flex plate! When I took it in there, I said to them straight up it was the bolts that came loose, and just because the FPV rep was there with his little scan tool, they voided the entire mechanical warranty straight away, and didn't want to touch it cause of the modifications done!! I would have been hapy to pay for the costs of opening up the gearbox, just to have some piece of mind. that's why I took it straight to Grenville, he knew straight off the bat that it wasn't the bottom end! He said that he would like to think that if I had gone ahead with the repairs and when they pulled the 'box out, they would have found the bolts loose and told me, but I highly doubt that, given the current economic climate, they'll probably try and make their money as best they can..but I guess we'll never know! Thank God for Grenville, he saved me a lot of hassle and heartache! that man definitly deserves a good bottle of something.. Also a big thank you to joel aka kartman, and everyone here on the forum who offered their insights as to what it could be, you're all aces in my book! If any of you are in perth, I owe you a pint! Cheers guys!!
  23. thanks joel! I'll definitly let him know to check that too! Cheers mate!
