The nominated driver is my dad. It's under a business for tax purposes. Everything that's been done is done for a reason. It's under his name to keep the premium down. But I am technically allowed to drive it, just not a full time nominated driver if that makes sense. I didn't tell them about the suspension, my dad did.
-
Yeah and their premiums are ridiculous too. The car is under a company name anyway, and I'm not a nominated driver. Nominated driver is over 50. Still, NRMA are the cheapest. Can this not be done the right way? What are the odds NRMA will let it go if I tell them I'll walk? Also, with changing insurers, I think we pay monthly, do I have to pay out anything? But let's keep changing out of contention, that's a last resort. I just want to get an engineers approval so I can be insured. Surely someone has had to deal with this before.
-
Who are you with? Are there any other solutions besides changing? NRMA were the cheapest for me. I'm 20 years old so it's pretty hard.

Okay I looked at VSI 15 from RTA. It has a list of engineers I believe. One of them is just around the corner from me in Illawong. Vsi 15 Engineering Signatories Rev 20 23march 2010 Am I on the right track? Give him a call? (Janda Steven J)

So I didn't think about insurance before I lowered my car Anyway I need to get the car RTA inspected and approved before NRMA will be okay. Because it's a commercial vehicle... ute. It was done at Wholesale Suspension. SL in front SSL in rear, all receipts etc. Where can I take it to be inspected? I'm in the Sutherland Shire. How hard is it to get approved? It's not too low. No lower than a lot of other cars on the road. What's involved? Just taking it to one of these places, getting a certificate and calling NRMA? Any info would be great. ASAP, because NRMA aren't covering me till I get the approval.

Yes I'm in Sutherland Shire

I'm looking into doing a few minor upgrades to my FG. Along the lines of air intake and hi flow cat. I know any parts that are aftermarket Ford won't cover that's up to the third part warranty, obviously. But what mods can be done without Ford kicking up a stink? Obviously not touching the engine at all until my warranty is up. But add on things. Wheres a good place to start. I just want to make it breath better and be more responsive. I'm hearing the XR8 snorkel is a good addon? But there's also stuff like below going around. Are these along the lines, if not better? What would you guys recommend in this department because I'm a bit lost... Ford FG 6 Cyl & Turbo SS Inductions Cold Air Intake Kit (eBay item 120637628725 end time 02-Nov-10 20:55:17 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats Falcon FG 6CYL XR6 & XR6 Turbo Cold Air Intake Kit (eBay item 350406686404 end time 02-Nov-10 14:07:30 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats As for cat. Hi flow cats are also suggested which aren't too pricey. How about a cat back system. I'm a completely noob when it comes to mods and such. Will a hi flow cat change the exhaust note? I'd like to make it sound a bit better, so I thought a cat back system would be the way to go. What do you guys recommend? I have searched the forums don't worry, but still a little confused. If people could also tell me how they have gone with mods and warranty that would shed some light. Cheers

My FG has 4000 on the clock so still a baby. When I start it up, it's not a smooth ignition, sometimes it's kind of lumpy and all over the shop. Once it's started it idles fine no problems, just the ignition is way off. Much more prominent when cold. Another issue is it's a 6sp manual, when in low revs and taking off, I hear a grinding noise. It goes away as the revs build up. Happened in all my T5 XR's. What's the deal. Also you can hear the grind noise when I switch the car off just at the end when the motor dies. I don't know how well I've worded this but I've put as much detail as possible!
-
Just for the record. When I was done they said I'd get the fine in the mail, and it came. NSW and done for Turbo on P's though...
-
Well considering that it's fraud, I think you're alright!
-
Mine is the same. 3000k's old. Noisy from the start. Made a 'tick tick tick tick' noise when idle. Put the clutch in and it would go away. Ford couldn't pick anything up, but when I got the car back I couldn't hear it anymore. I think it's still there, but a lot quieter? But the gearbox/driveline is still noisy just in general (the diff etc). Also taking off when the revs are down low it makes a 'grinding' noise as I pull away. All my Falcons have done this (all my others have had T5's though)

My ex's dad's BF F6 had this issue. The horn would get stuck on. Happened when they were driving through a cemetery to a funeral too... I don't know the outcome, but I think he took it to Ford. Just letting you know that I've heard of this happening before.

Cheers. Looks awesome

2010 FG XR6T. 2000ks as in 2000kms. It's a brand newy

My manual xr6t is going in for a service 2000k's old. It's getting checked for some issues. A couple of things. When in neutral (stationary) and the clutch out, it makes a tick tick tick tick noise. If I push the clutch in the noise disappears. That's what I'm getting looked at. Any ideas what this could be? Second, when I take off I can hear a sort of 'creaking' noise from the rear. It's also apparent when I come to a stop as well. I'll get them to check that out too, same question... any ideas? Last, the gearbox is clunky as, I know this is just how the manuals are but yeah. It also bounces and moves around quite a bit (the stick). Cheers.

Mate that looks so good. My old XR6 sedan was like that, I loved it. Question, what springs/leaves did you get (if the guy who sold them to you could let me know that would be awesome)? I'd love to go that low. Also, how does it drive?

Looks a million times better! +1 to getting the guards off. I've heard of bad things they do to the paint. I took mine off day one.

Having been in the situation before, here are my thoughts. 1) The loan on a second hand vehicle. 40k? Crazy. How old is he? I'm guessing 18-19? Does he realise the interest he'll be paying back on a loan like that. He'll likely have hardly any credit so the rates will be ridiculous. I guess I don't know the guy so I can't judge there. 2) He'll get done. Cops aren't stupid. I drove my 180SX on my P's for 6 months. All good. Then one night, got done. Lost my license for 3 months. He'll be paying back a 40k loan on a car he can't drive. My 180SX had no signs of being a turbo either, so that is invalid. 3) He writes the car off, whilst he can register and insure it. Insurance will likely turn around and say "you weren't supposed to be driving it" and they won't cover him. He's on his greens. He had what, 1-2 years max to wait? Tell him to save up for 2 years then his loan won't be so big and he can drive it legally...
-
Possibly. It starts sounding normal after the engine is on a bit (ie warms up).
-
My ute is a month old if that. On cold nights when I start her up and drive off, the turbo is very noisy. Makes a loud higher pitched whine then normal. Is this normal or should I take it to Fraud?
-
Cops will defect for any reason. When I had my 180SX, which was a relatively stock car, I got defected for my gear knob and steering wheel. Both these came with the car when I bought it, and because they weren't factory it was a defect. Unbelievable, I could maybe understand the steering wheel (it was a genuine MOMO mind you, so I doubt it was unsafe), but a gear knob??!! It all comes down to the cops attitude, and your attitude.

Personal choice. I got black, because you couldn't get Dash (green) in the XR50T ): I was torn between black, blue, and white. I don't regret getting black because it looks great when clean, but it definitely is hard to keep clean.
-
All good. Just for the record, I spoke to my dealer and he said lowering will not affect the warranty. He even encouraged lowering it. Might be different for each dealer but. Mine is Domenelli Ford at Kirawee.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm looking to level it out as I rarely have big loads in the car. Most would be once a week music equipment (amps guitars, drums, etc) for an hour or so, or a mountain bike in the back. So coils in the front are the recommendation? How much does it affect the ride? In the rear I guess I don't have much choice? Who would be the best mob to go to for the rear? Wenier I like the ride height of your ute, I'm after something along those lines. Cheers again!
