I had a Powerchip installed about 3 weeks ago. I'm getting 8.3 litres per 100klm on the freeway (recorded between Goulburn and Sydney). Average over the last several tankfulls (which include towing a trailer and motorbike for 300ks with a completely full car) is 12.3 l/100k's. Much more power, so you do tend to dump it a bit more too! For this kind of power I reckon this is awesome economy!

Put me down on the list too. It has just started to whine, generally when there is no load on the motor or when braking. It seems to be getting worse quite quickly! Have done just over 11,000 ks. I'd really like to hear what happens with this from other forum members, as it's a bit of a concern. I also get a sharp abbrasive sound when my RHS rear wheel goes over a bump.... I guess these teething problems are to be expected with a new suspension design....

Mal, I had the same windscreen noise issue. If you put a bit of tape (I used duct tape) across the whole top of the screen, covering the gap between screen and roof, the noise will go away. They fixed my car by putting a rubber mould into the gap between the top of the windscreen and the roof. You could do the same thing by filling the gap with silicone, but why should you fix Fords design fault? It is a really easy fix. Good luck! I suggest you've had most of your problems now and from here on it's smooth driving!

That is incredible power. I don't know if I'd trust myself with that kind of power in my "daily drive" car! How long would you keep your license?

Nah. Too much drag...

When the chip is installed the process includes adjusting boost and some fuel supply modifications. I've also fitted a BMC air box/filter. Not dyno'd yet, as I've only had it a few days. When is the next dyno day I wonder?
-
Well, the chip appears to be wired in to the existing loom. It was installed by Powerchip technicians (who come to Sydney - I live in Sydney - each few weeks to do installs). Unfortunately I never got around to dynoing the car pre the install. I meant to, but just didn't have time. I did a 1,000k trip over the last 2 days. Fuel economy on the freeway (cruise control at 110 odd k's most of the time) was average 8.3 litres per 100 k's which is a couple of litres better than I have achieved previously. (Car has just clocked 10,000 k's). I did some spirited driving yesterday (in an appropriate place) and the performance was just great. Not too many (fairly stock) cars would match straight line speed I don't think. Fuel economy... about 27 L per 100k's. Overtaking is awesome, the hardest thing is to take your foot off the "loud pedal" as it just wants to keep going. The torque seems huge. Sounds great too. seems like a bit more turbo and induction noise and even exhaust note. You can hear the blow off valve when you back off too.

I was wondering if they have more time to surf the net during the day... depends on who you work for and how busy you are I guess
-
Yeah, no comparison really. I've driven the 300kw Commode and it didn't feel really good to me, particularly for an extre $50,000, so I imagine the S would be fairly ordinary.
-
There is an extra chip, which is wired in (somehow). I don't pretend to be an expert on this... There is also a boost controller. I assume the blow off I can hear is the standard valve, but I could never hear it before. :D
-
No problems with my SSS, althought the downshifts can be a bit lumpy (when not accelerating). I drove a Magna hire car last week and the Falcoon is smooth as silk in comparison!
-
Yeah, thanks Silverhawk. I don't understand them at all. It's as if they are there to give you a hard time, rather than to assist. As you say, their loss. We're driving the XR6T's! :D

Where Do You / Will You Get Your XR6T Serviced?
Gareth replied to BlueXR6Turbo's topic in General Tech
Well, I would have said "from the dealer I bought it from" except they now tell me they can't really help as I have installed an aftermarket "chip". So I now need to find a good mechanic (preferably with a Dyno) on Sydney's northern beaches or North Shore. Any suggestions folks?? :( -
Yes, the wind noise. City Ford Sydney told me they had never had another complaint about it, and Ford knew nothing about this as a problem. I mentioned this site and the member's experiences... "that's just a load of crap". They also charged me to ballance my wheels when they were out of balance from new. Warranty???

I personally reckon it's a rip off. Had it all done to my first new car years ago and would never do it again. Also, I worked in the motor industry for a short while - there is about a 500% markup on these "treatments" so you are getting ripped off!

Ok. Deep breath taken. All I have done is installed 2 things, the BMC Carbon Fibre airbox and the Powerchip 98 chip. The guy who installed the chip for me said he adjusted it to 9.5 lb boost. The air box was about $550 and the chip was $1395 plus $100 to install. Love the result!
-
Had it fitted yesterday. All I can say is WOW. I have and will post on the Powerchip thread after I have driven it more. In short, I can't imagine anyone wanting more power than this for everyday (not on the race track) driving.
-
OK. All I can really say is WOW. :D :D :D I picked the car up last night and drove home, and it just feels like a different car. In reality, it has probably exceeded my expectations. I'm going for a long drive over the next few days so by Monday night I should be more experienced with the upgrade and will post again over the next week. Apparently 9.5 lbs boost. You can now hear the blow off valve when you get off the gas. I need to Dyno so I can see the actual rear wheel Kws. To give an idea of the power increase, I was changing lanes and kicked back to first (yes mine is an SSS) at about 30 k's and the rear wheels broke traction (in the dry on tarseal). It will also break traction changing up from first to second. Thank goodness for the traction control! I have driven a 300kw HSV and this feels like 400kw in comparison.

Wow, people are so passionate about their preferences. My biggest decision when ordering was which way to go, Manual or Auto, that's why I started this thread. After 7,500 k's I have no regrets about the Auto. You can change down, and hold gears, and in some ways it's more versatile than the manual - so I reckon it is a good compromise. What an awesome car! Who cares how the gears change, really, it's just too much fun!
-
:D I couldn't agree more XR6TK1W1. Just got back from a 1000 klm drive over the weekend, and the Auto is awesome!
-
 I agree. That would be some modification list to go by!!
-
Well, install was aborted due to a fuel elbow (or something) that they broke and they didn't have a spare. Just a waste of about 3 hours of my time, and a rental car, etc... Of only people did what they said they would do and planned ahead. I'll update once it's done.
