Spoke to John at Herrod Performance today and we've got it sorted. It'll have the bigger pod and E85 spec 460 and plumbing. Ordered the aluminium weld on ring kit this arvo also from EFI Hardware. Just got to sort the rollover vent plumbing now. I don't want to run a vacuum canister like OEM so I'll look at options. Other than that and getting a vertical float sender unit, it should be a pretty basic tank fab given I've got a full scale cardboard mock-up and original steel tank to copy from.

It's my original garrett CHRA and rear turbine. Gets new ceramic bearings and metal cage etc then rebalanced with the new front wheel. I opted for the genuine comp cover also.

A mate has a barra XT running the aeroflow twin 044 spec capable (if you remove the supplied blank off) surge tank. He currently runs a single with an external lift. These are a good thing as pumps are submerged, aside from connections. You also have some headroom of course as you can slot in another one. If I want E85 spec though it would appear Bosch 044's are out. Interestingly, specs suggest 300lph. I always thought they delivered more. So running twins - three including the lift, potentially only nets 600lph but I realise the maths aren't as basic when talking flow. My point is though, that's a lot of extra plumbing and wiring for not a big reward. That's why I guess the twin 460 combos have become popular. I could stitch in a square bulkhead and do a custom hanger that is twin pump capable. More custom fabrication though and I'm trying to reign that in, lol. A single 460 would most likely get it done and other than stitching the mounting ring on the tank, it makes life pretty simple. I could always run a front mounted surge later on if I push further but given I've seen my combo in another XW ute run 10.40 at 142 with under 400rwkw, it's not really needed.

Want to do use the EFI Hardware ally weld on ring kit then use a Herrod 460LPH E85 spec MRA (as I used in my FG) but I'm a little concerned it won't give much headroom - certainly bugger all on E85. Supported 375rwkw no issues in the FG. I'm still aiming for that 375 -400rwkw so I think it will get it done. Makes the system pretty simple. I'd just do that Herrod hi flow reg in the factory rail again also. Keen to hear what people a squeezing out of a 460 Walbro. https://www.efihardware.com/products/2550/Installation-Kit-Alloy-Tank-for-Ford-BA-FPV-MRA

Yep. It has their ceramic bearing set-up, metal cages etc. Excellent to deal with. Very happy. Should have it back tomorrow.

Got an update today - turbo nearly done. They've slotted in a 64mm wheel which they reckon will be great all-rounder for my application and good for 450-500rwkw if I want to wind up the wick. Perfect. I'll dial the converter at around that 2850rpm mark which I reckon will have it nearly on song

I've already got a full custom high-mount and v banded housing so it will be getting a turbo to suit that. It arrived in Vic today actually - they called to confirm. I said again that I'm not set on the configuration and will be guided by them so once they've pulled it apart, we'll talk again. At this stage I think I'll be running the original turbine. I'm not sure if we'll go a big enough wheel to justify the upgrade. I don't believe it touched the housing so should be fine to reuse. My thinking at this stage is a 63mm wheel in maybe a 6+6. Mainly because, they traditionally aren't a high pressure wheel (for peak efficiency) and tend to come on earlier than an equivalent sized 11 blade. Think Precision 6235 v GTX 3582R. I think they sound hornier too Anyhoo, that's just me spit ballin. At the end of the day they'll build what works.

Initial contact with the company is A1. Very professional. That 69mm bad boy has their custom rear turbine to overcome backpressure issues where others have tried, but failed. I'm not totally locked in on the wheel size. I've given them my requirements so will let them build what they think is the best combo. It won't be less than the 62 of course and might be a 6+6 configuration or 11 blade. I'd like a little bit of head room but don't want something that isn't really in peak efficiency until its got 20+ up it either. It's always a compromise so hopefully will land in the middle zone somewhere. 18psi and 400rwkw on 98 would be mint.

Huge thanks to Luke, Jet and those that have helped to get a turbo sorted. Turns out, the future 'toilet roll holder' that I've been using for mock-up, is getting a rebirth as the turbine hadn't munched the housing. ProCharge Turbochargers in Vic have got the nod. All the 66mm lovers will be disappointed but it's going to be GTX3582R spec. They're Garrett agents so it's getting a genuine .07 anti-surge cover; billet wheel of course, ceramic bearings and basically the gen2 spec cage etc shoved into the donor CHRA. Price is very competitive with no China spec. I didn't want to push the BF2 phoon donk too hard and Ben Smith (Gold XW barra ute) has run 10.40's at 142mph with a GTX3582R and near identical combo as I'll be running with about 400rwkw on tap. Plenty quick enough for me in the old bus. Not running this one but check it out. 69mm wheel - custom turbine. 1000hp in a 35 frame.

They are good value. If I was going China spec though I'd get the MTA750. At least he's local to me and I could get it fixed/replaced.

Jet has come up with pretty much the best price I can get for a gen1 but garrett are being dicks. Thought I had a win today as Ray Hall has them advertised at $1540 which was the norm twelve months ago pretty much. Called him with card at the ready but surprise surprise, no fkn stock and new orders are for gen2 :( Everyone I spoke with today was of the view that the gen1's should be at least the original price. They've been superseded ffs but they've bumped the price like $500. It sh*ts me on principal so I hope it bites them on the arse. But... I can get the much loved little brother again for under $1500. My initial thoughts were it's a little undersized for what I wanted on the XW build but in saying that, I am seriously only chasing 380 - 400rwkw out of it. Keep in mind, the XW will be around 480kg lighter than an XR6 so I don't think you'd notice it falling over as much. It gives me the 4" front still for cosmetics and I'm sure it will love a hi-mount and 1.01 vband up its bum. My only concern is how mental it would come on. I guess Clint could tune around that with the 50mm gate. Thoughts?

Must be bend over before EOFY turbo month. Wait for a week on a price for the 66mm built jobbie and it comes in more than an out of the box gen2, lol. Chasing a few more leads - see how we go. Really wanting a gen1 gtx3582r. Jet. Get me gen1 please. You are connected

It's the new model 1.01 single entry garrett. I only even intended to do straight plug in hence looking at the gtx3582r.

Ok, turbo decision time. Was keen on a gen1 GTX3582r but garrett are playing silly buggers with supercore prices. Can get a MTA 750X for under $1500 or, MTQ can build me a 66mm jobbie with a genuine garrett CHRA, anti-surge comp cover ect for same money basically. Keep in mind, I have vbanded 1.01 hi mounted goodness cranking it with 50mm pro gate bleeding off. 400rwkw remains the goal. My preference is still the gen1 GTX but I'm not paying 2k for the superceded model. Thoughts on the 66mm jobbie?
