Thanks, if that be the case then the XR6T's must be very close to around 300 fwkW - ie: 240 rwkW @ approx 20% drivetrain loss = 300 kW at the fly. Looks like the numbers stack up to what I have been told. I know all about the variance between dyno stuff - but it would appear that it is true, that Ford's 270 kW number is quite conservative. Interesting.

Thanks that makes sense. 240 at the wheels - well if I allow for about 15% driveline loss that places your vehicle at about 283rwkW, pretty close to what you thought at 290. Although I am only guessing at driveline loss it may actually be more. Anyone know what power (%) is lost through the driveline (ZF 6 spd Auto).

Hi all, hoping someone can shed some light. I know Ford claims the FG XR6T has 270 flywheel kW. However, I have been told Ford's rating is quite a conservative number and it is actually closer to 300 fwkW. Someone also told me about the 10% overboost capability - I will check my handbook about this later; If I do the math, although a little rusty - 270 x 10% = 27, therefore at times it must peak at 297 rwkW - pretty close to 300fwkW. Anyone know anything re: FG XR6T (stock) power.
  4. Hi Karps - you way want to read my post on FG stereo hiss first.
  5. Hi Karps - I did just what you are proposing to do. You may want to read my post on FG stereo hiss before you embark on your mission. Cheers
  6. Thanks, I got the system installed at Westside Sound and Image (www.westsidesound.com.au)in Perth. They manufactured the custom facia on site. Cheers
  7. Just had mine finished (aftermarket head unit and custom facia) - see the pictures in my other post - FG stereo hiss. Cheers
  8. Well I have finally resolved the hiss coming from the factory stereo. I got this aftermarket head unit installed and what a difference. No comparison. The sound quality and clarity is so much better and absolutely no hiss. I think the installer did a great job with the custom facia. Let me know what you think.
  9. ASL just replied - no mod for FG. Looks like aftermarket headunit. I think I will get the Alpine iDA-X305S with Bluetooth and steering wheel addittions, no CD player, but who uses them these days.
  10. I have emailed ASL with a run down of the issue. I will post their response as soon as they reply.
  11. Unfortunately I do not even have the Factory premium - I have the standard Ford sound system (poverty pack) - Demo vehicle no choice. The Earth lead is the same size and quality as power lead and bolted to the chassis close to the amp. I will definitely get another Earth lead attached as suggested and let you know if this works/helps. However what do you mean re: the RCA pre-out mod for FG's. I know nothing about this can you elaborate for me please. Also when I spoke to the installer about patching in a headunit to test they said it was a lot of work and then made the following offer. They said they would will fit a new head unit, rewiring using RCA inputs (only charge for the headunit) and guarantee it will stop the hiss. If it does not, they will remove it (the head unit) and not charge me for it. I would really like to retain the factory system but it seems the only way to get rid of the hiss is with an aftermarket head unit. Someone did mention (on a forum site) it may be to do with the signal output from the factory unit only supplying a very small voltage (starving the amp for signal quality) as opposed the aftermarket units that supply a much stronger signal (more voltage). Anyone know anything about that?
  12. Thanks - The hiss remains constant - does not change with revs. According to the installer, it is a common earth - but I will check this and the location/length and quality of cable. I am going to try and get them to hook up an aftermarket head unit to test the integrity of their install. If the hiss goes, then I can assume they may be right and it is from the factory unit, if the hiss remains than it must be the install. Any other ideas?
  13. Hi I hoping someone can help. Just got a stereo upgrade - Alpine SPR-17S Component speakers(front doors and pillars for tweeters), Alpine SPR-17C Coaxial(rear doors)running through Alpine MRP-F600 Amp. I am getting a very annoying hiss from all speakers. The installer tells me it is from the factory unit and the hiss is simply being amplified and now more audible due to better speakers. It was installed using the high level inputs as this is what was recommended. After I took the vehicle back they tried using line level converters to RCA but still no difference. They did all the usual checks, earth length and connection - but still no good. In the end they turned the gain down on the amp. This helped a little with the hiss, but now the system is not as powerful. Very unhappy. I would prefer not to install another head unit as I wish to retain the factory appearance and functionality. Any advice would be appreciated.
  14. Try these guys. I just found their site the other day. Hope they can Help. Cheers http://www.autointergrations.com.au/1_1_.html
  15. Thanks - I guess I will have to ask the installer to be careful and make the cut out as small as possible. Cheers
  16. Hi just upgraded my BA XR6 n/a to a FG XR6T, very happy. I need to get a tow bar fitted but the back of FG does not have a cutout like the BA's. Does anyone have any pictures to look at? I am going to fit a Hayman Reece (slide in and out removable Hitch) but not sure how they will do it and whether they will need to cut the plastic bottom spoiler. Anyone had this done - advice please.
