  1. I always follow the KISS principal - Keep It Simple Stupid. 1. New Exhaust with High flow cat 2. Cold Air Intake. I use dual intakes with turbo snorkal and XR8 snorkal 3. Heat Shield (Do not under estimate engine heat) - Simple reflective shielding on the air intake pipes and the air box reduced the temprature inside the box by 5-10 degrees c Some trial and error (FUN) things to try. Venturi exhaust boost - try and find my posts from some years ago on this topic. I have removed mine but it did seem to work. Engine bay exhaust fan. I used an old radiator fan (from a datsun 120Y I think - any small one will do) and installed it in the engine bay near the right wheel. Connected to the tacho so it switched on when revs fell below 1000 (ie idle at the lights or traffic). The result was hot gases that build up in the engine bay during ideling were forced out of the car - engine bay remains COOL See my signature for non performance mods Have fun
  2. My 2.2c worth: Talk to the service department. Usually you will find the head guy is into modifications etc (my dealer is an agent for Herrods). They know what they will allow and what they won't. Have a look at my mods - all done with dealer approval (most done by the dealer) and I got the dealer to tell the insurer which also made the jod easier.
  3. OK - I have not read the whole thread so some of this maybe old news. See my signature but this is the order in which I did my mods. Total gain from stock to present was 21kw (at the wheels). 1. Turbo Snorkal (this is drop in replacement for the standard snorkal) 2. Air Intake (I used the XR8 snorkal directly into the airbox - there are many variations 3. Heat Shield. A DIY project with shielding to the airbox and intake pipes. Reduced intake temperature by an average 15C 4. Pacemaker headers and exhaust and high flow cat (you could probably leave the cat) 5. Heat retention tape on the exhaust 6. Raised rear of bonnet using washers - this alows more heat to excape Another mod - a DIY ventaurii device worked well with a 3kw gain (measured using G-TECH) but it fell off as I did not welded on properly. I have not around to building another one. All up spent about $1500 over 18 months I will get an edit once the car is out of warranty and not on lease good luck
  4. I am in the market for a Ford Capri Conv. I have seen one - 1989, 158K, one owner, auto, every service done - stamped book, owned by local doctor. Apart from minor scratches body looks OK, no leaks. Drives OK Well what is the Max I should pay
  5. that's a cheap good value mod. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Better option is the XR8 snorkal - same size half the price and the part number is the same (instead of BA2 = MKII) its BA T 9C676
  6. OK Sorry about the quality of the photos but it is hard to get under the rear air vents with a camera and to focus. However the first photo shows the small panel with cover under the vents and the second shows the mod completed with the light. The light is much brighter than the photo but it just would not come out on photo. I will try to get another photo with the lens removed but that wont show much apart from a globe holder attached to the edges of the panel with a couple of small screws.
  7. Hi As most of you know there is a small covered panel below the rear air vents. The cover can be removed with a little push however it is difficult to replace once removed so careful if you are doing this for curiosity only. The fairmont ghia has a small light installed in this panel however the XR does not have the wiring in place (not sure about MKII). I removed the center console etc (see different thread for instructions) to gain a track from the panel to the front passenger footwell light. I piggybacked wires from the front passenger footwell lights through the center console to the open panel. Ordered the lens assembly for the fairmont ghia rear footwell light ($11.20) only to find that it is only the lens - no light holder. Picked up a trailer light from the local K-Mart ($3.50) and modified the light holder to fit inside the panel (very easy) and attached lens - works great
  8. Hi I use 38 all round - standard 17" 27K - tyres look OK
  9. Hi The sunglasses holder is not espensive - l think I was quoted about $70 - $80 however the wiring loom is different and the dealer was not willing to quote on installation as he felt it would be difficult job requiring the removal of the roof lining etc etc. As I am not much of a DIY type person (except for the rear footwell light - see separate thread) I gave up on the idea some time ago
  10. OOPS I thought you would be able to see without joining the forum - the file is too big to cut and paste. I guess you will have to join if you want to see
  11. Hi I thought this was a useful article - may help others http://www.fordforums.com.au/vbportal/modu...warticle&id=165
  12. Hi Firstly welcome to the forum I don't have the JMM Dev kit but have something similar equal to the JMM level 2 kit (see signature) Unfortunately I did not have access to a dyno before the mods - only G-Tech and the figures are as follows: Stock = 138kw (Average of 5 runs) Stock + 2nd CAI = 139.5kw (average of 4 runs) As per signature = 149.1kw (Average of 4 runs) As per signature (on a Dyno) = 148.6kw best times (G-Tech): 0-60 = 7.92, 1/4mile 14.87 I have been told to expect another 12-15rwkw with edit ie about 160rwkw with equivilant of JMM Dev 3 kit Hope this helps
  13. I know what you are saying that's why I only wrapped the upper parts - the lower ends of the extractors are unwrapped do heat is better able to escape from under the car. I have seen this done before and it works without affecting the extractors
  14. I thought the lens would come with a lamp holder but it did not I made my own lamp holder using one of the off shelf holders from Autopro
  15. Hi I have gone as far as I want to (AT THIS STAGE!!) with power mods (in addition to signature I have added heat absorbing tape to the extractors). I am looking at making my XR - amm a little personal. I already have front footwell lights and illuminated light switches. I have just completed the rear footwell light - total cost $61 Considering the following: The heavier metal (chrome) internal door handles from the MKII Fairlane The "Black Onyx" look dash inserts from the MKII Fairlane - 3 inserts cost $210 fitted. Heavy carpet undelay - to reduce road noise. Other options to make the cabin quieter? Stripes (please no rice comments)
