  1. I too have had 1, 3 and 5 covered under warranty and mine is an ex-highway patrol car. The only way they can really fault transmission leaks is if there is significant damage / scraping to say your sump pan. Getting issues like "a knock from the gearbox" fixed can be hell. Just do a search and you'll see what kind of responses people get. Usually they'll tell you "it's normal" ... and you will be standing there like this
  2. You put a GPS tracker in your car or you have a security tracking service that can monitor your car for speed alerts.
  3. NICE effort JC ... I might have to copy that idea. Duffman, how did you get such good pics onto the PC? We fiddled around with it a bit here and had no luck ...
  4. IB, did you ever play Frontier Elite II? Quote old, but vastly improved on the original Elite ... I grew up with this stuff. And again, a few years old but Homeworld and Homeworld 2 are not bad either if you don't mind story-driven space sims ... rumour has it that braben wants to make a new version of Elite ... but has been speaking about it for years... ... was wondering myself if there are any *new* space sims. Anyone played EVE?
  5. Just saw a late model (GE/GH series) WRX used by Perth Police on "The Force" tonight. In 2005 I saw a Subaru WRX used by Cabramatta police cruising around the CBD ... uniformed police inside, but pretty sure that was a community liason car.
  6. There are other ways!
  7. Last Thursday morning, citybound on the M4 ... blue undercover FG, XR6T .... with CUSTOM PLATES!
  8. Sounds like they were still trying to take the cheap way out. I've had gutter rash on my rims since taking to a dealer among many other issues. But what can you do if you don't notice straight away? You're just lucky they copped to it. The dealership which serviced my car also did 30 over the posted speed limit EVERY time I took it to them too. That's the price you pay for warranty work I guess.
  9. I gave this a go last week and I noticed a hell of a difference in power. Haha, I think the XR6T ute that was sitting with me in traffic towards the city was surprised when I gave it a bootful afterwards. But I noticed however when overtaking on the motorway, that the engine / power would cut out consistently around 3.5k rpm. A week later, when installing new spark plugs and checking a few things ... I noticed the hose was off completely. If I'm not mistaken this will fool the computer into thinking there's no boost developing, hence your wastegate won't open (thanks to a little wikipedia & advice from a friend). The result is you can build boost up to levels potentially dangerous for your engine. I think the engine cutting out in my case might have been triggered by knock being detected. I don't need to tell you this can be very bad for your engine. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on the technical side of things. But anyway, if you perform this maintenance, DOUBLE CHECK your hose hasn't slipped off with the added lubrication after you've taken it for a spin if you're getting insane results. I could hear my turbo spooling up quite audibly and was even getting turbo flutter, with stock equipment and my BOV properly connected.
  10. You'd hope not ... hope you bought them from the US site where they are listed as $398 for a set of six as opposed to $660 from that joker on ebay. Let us know how they go ... I'm having coil pack issues atm as F6 Turbo knows.
  11. How do you know it's overheating? Is it just the gauge or what? What happens?
  12. Kudos for speaking up about something like this. It's not easy to talk about, but it might just motivate somebody to take that step and see a doctor when they've been putting something similar off.
  13. Make sure you turn it over once every few months Robbo ... my bro tells me these dry-cells are very prone to "dying" if you don't ...
  14. I'm a fan of the optima dry-cell, colour-top batteries myself. I never got the differences between red, blue and yellow top, but supposedly yellow-top are better as deep-cycle batteries for high current draw ... I.e. they deliver a more consistent voltage as they discharge, but have lower cranking amps (so not so good in older non fuel injected cars). Be ready for a shock though, good batteries ain't cheap!
  15. D I can't believe that was the first time you posted ...
  16. I would have thought the council and RTA would have been unhelpful ... nice to see they had an open attitude towards it...
  17. I'd be keen to tag along. I have an old CB somewhere ... what kind of models are people using nowadays?
  18. I don't believe for a second that the police use a performance chip... that would void the warranty as we all know!
  19. As I understand it, if all you want is 250rwkw, you can easily get that with just a tune on stock equipment for a BF ... and you won't kill yourself with over 300 at the wheels as long as you can control your foot
  20. It's funny though since they have taped it back up and remounted it (still doesen't work) ... I've snagged a photo .... check it out below. I've been motivated to kick up a stink and fight them on it before the warranty runs out. No sense why I should pay for it seeing as it was intact when I bought the car. This particular service tech was telling me about all the "allowable, warrantable modifications" the police can have, I.e. suspension and brake rotors ... he then went on to say they have a "performance chip" which gives them extra power. So I hope you can make it out ... but that's where the bell-housing meets the block ... and they've cable-tied it on.
  21. Have a good read through your contract with them. If you think it allows for it to be covered, take it up with the ACCC if karkare don't want to hear any of it ... sometimes these places can be helpful (so I've heard).
  22. Is your car an ex highway patrol car by any chance? The stealership offered to me an array of excuses why the wiring harness melted, including "it's an ex-police vehicle and when they've ripped their wiring out, they've probably dislodged something". This is despite them pulling out my transmission which the plug is tied to the bell housing of. But they want to fight me on the basis of their word against mine.
  23. Did you change the pads at the same time you changed the rotors? In the past I've found old pads can mess up your new rotors, my brother's ruined a pair of slotted DBAs doing that.
  24. Hi Everyone, Long time reader of the forums, first time poster. I've got an issue with my T which I've owned just on a year now. The wiring harness which connects to the O2 / HEGO sensor behind the heat shield became dislodged somehow and melted, short story, won't be covered by warranty and I need to get the thing fixed. Short of going to an auto-electrician, I'm fairly confident it's something I can fix myself - but I'm at a loss as to where to find a wiring harness side plug to fit the O2 sensor. Can anyone share any ideas? Picture attached of the nasty piece of work. Cheers Chris
