  1. Yo homies had a crap day need to vent. So I have a weird job that’s very unique. I’m a government employee who’s main role is to operationally manage the largest public space/precinct in Adelaide CBD with over half a million people travelling through its main through fare every week. This includes a significant amount of “stuff” involved in my role from consulting on major construction projects for infrastructure & private works, consulting with government bodies including senior police and MFS, coordinating council resources and a heap of other stuff to keep half a million people a week safe, happy and returning. This morning I had to shut down a building site, which I hate doing because it’s not the workers fault it’s their boss who caused it, but now they were tools down, no pay through no fault of their own. Then I was getting back into it and an gentleman collapsed and one of my team members administered CPR and we got the defib out but unfortunately our efforts and ambulance efforts were futile. I then spent hours trying to operationally manage police, ambulance and the general public to respectfully get the deceased mans body out of there with thousands of people and media onlooking. The amount of people who either.... a) tried to look or made an effort to gawk b) got sh*tty because the incident inconvenienced them c) took photos and tried to obtain details ...Was absolutely disgusting! I can’t believe someone’s dad, grandad, son, brother or friend was dying while thousands of people were so concerned with their own trivial crap. Actually yes I can believe it but it still disappoints the sh*t out of me. The media actually arrived and took footage, when I requested them not to, of the resuscitation attempts through closed off areas. Vultures! I am just tired and over it and I am already over people asking why im not openly displaying sadness... because I’m not actually sad as such. I carry stress really well but I am concerned about my team member and their mental well-being and I am just disappointed in humanity. I forget how crappy humans are until things like this. When I got back to my office I had 57 emails waiting for me (that came in 3 hours I was gone), and I tallied 84 phone calls today. I need a drink.
  2. Update.... just a photo coz I CBF doing much of a write up... but basically finished upper story render, more stuff happening on first fix, mouldings on for upper level and staff is about to come down.
  3. That seemed harder than quoting a post that far back for some reason when I was half asleep.
  4. Casa de Hoppo Update. 3 coat render system is going up on top level at the moment. First fix plumbing is complete and stairs are in The eldest is looking almost as tall as me now... I’m going to be a dwarf in my own home soon I think LOL
  5. I clicked on this topic after seeing the grammar correction in the preview and thought... wtf.... Then I realised it was Arron being corrected... I loled.
  6. May be because the new house is set further forward than the old one.
  7. Afternoon ohmos! Well we got back from a few days away and came home to a pleasant surprise.... bricks completely finished, scaff up, some additional carpentry done inside (things like the bedroom pelmet and fire place), the cladding delivered and more plumbing done. Progress so far:
  8. Yes it’s a happy Monday.... Platter and espresso martini’s... or in this modified case... mocha martini’s with Haighs Chocolate and local cold drip coffee.
  9. Well it’s j@s birthday today..... I decided to whisk him away to The Frames. https://theframesluxuryaccommodation.com.au His only request was that I put together a platter with all his favourites... so we have a fridge full of booze and yummy food too hehe Currently posting this from the heated pool listening to some Midnight Oil and drinking some Pino Gris 😴
  10. Oh wow ... kittens is back... again... now all we need is MBAF for a reunion
  11. Literally thank god it’s Friday!!!
  12. Well my sh*ttily insulated house has made some more progress this week LOLOLOLOL Scaffold is up at the rear of the property and the upper rear windows are in. The brickies are well underway with the facade almost finished. The back alfresco wall has been done... it’s a double brick wall and will be built out afterwards to make a little fire nook with a mounted TV... Layer 1... (Which I then decided to make higher coz I could still see into my neighbours alfresco) After the double brick was finished... Much better level. (these bricks will look more black grey when cleaned, they’re called liquorice) It will hopefully look something like this once completed, but instead of the log insert it will have a bbq bench built in. Went to my cabinet maker yesterday and did the final sign off and made a few minor adjustments... Have organised for the island bench to be fitted after flooring as the plinth kicker will align far nicer. Cupboards profile... One of the amazing kitchens in their show room... so nice!!! 😍 (actually similar to what we are getting) Ironically I finalised my insulation details today... - 4.0 for all level 1 ceilings and GF level ceiling that has an exposed foot (no upper floor on top of it) - Same for alfresco - Same for mid level floor - 2.5HD for external walls - 2.5HD for all internal walls - Heavy duty R2.0 ducting for the aircon ducting. This is additional to the outer upper being built from a rendapanel product which is high density foam core panel covered in a three coat render system. It should finish up much nicer than traditional Hebel style blocks as the panels are patched and joined together similar to an external gyprock flushing to make the joints look much more seamless.
  13. I am aware this post is probably mostly lost on a forum full of guys LOL... but j@ re-proposed today... nearly eleven years since we first met, it’s nice to know he still wants to be married to me hahah (he’s clearly insane LOL). @bloodycrashboy and @arronm ... you both shat me to tears, as I’m sure I do you too, but I thought you’d both get this, given how much you guys love your significant others. 💖 *I know.... insert vomit here 🤮*
  14. Honestly... zero farks, could not physically care any less about it. The fact is it will likely have solar installed one day and therefore the minimal gains sisalation would have added (the $7 a quarter it would have saved), will then be redundant and neutralised.... but again... I won’t care because I won’t be there.
  15. If you’re building 2 houses with the largest underlying priority being the valuation at the end of the project and the potential resale/rental value of them given they’re in a higher value realestate area, the priorities are not generally construction method (to a degree) or longer term energy efficiency. Why? Because believe it or not, a solar system or the style of insulation used will add nominal value to the overall project, however, an 80k kitchen will.... and... the cost of running an aircon FOR SOMEONE ELSE is irrelevant to me. I am not arguing the value of insulation, just like I don’t argue 99% of things written in the BCA because they’re usually accurate, however, just like I chose to eliminate certain expenses from my other builds that are “best practice” in an ideal world, I chose which ones would make me the most money on this one because that’s the key objective. All I required out of this project is somewhere for my mum to live until she’s in a home (which she will be using down stairs only not upstairs, and yes there is mid floor insulation and zoned aircon) and somewhere we can stay to care for her during that time while we build our longer term house.... which by the way will NOT have sisalation because the roof is being built out of a foam composite material which is also fire resistant. I am not arguing the value in sisalation, I’m saying it simply wasn’t a priority for this application.
  16. Do you understand what a cost vs benefits analysis is? you’ll also be interested to know that reading the BCA was part of my qualifications, but thanks for clarifying you can google 👏
  17. Yeah you’re right... the last 23mil in construction projects I’ve managed ahead of time and budget don’t count at all... I am hopeful maybe one day I will know what I’m doing. Anywhooooo..... Got some drawings back for some cabinetry I’m thinking about adding... an inbuilt TV unit and a bench seat for the dining area. Also the cabinetry for the bar area. All tied in with the black and white theme we’re going for, I’m sold on the benches but still refining the bar set up.
