  1. guys what are the typical symptoms of valve springs that may need replacing?? cheers
  2. good to know, mine has gone to an odd brownish colour which does look terrible. I remember when the car was new it was bright green and healthy looking.
  3. legend, willl check it out. cheers
  4. cheers, the exact code was P0353 - ignition coil fault
  5. I guys, was driving back from canberra to sydney today and noticed the engine light had come on. When I got home I plugged in my xcal and found the following DTC error (P0353) which seems to belong to an ignition coil fault? Does anybody have any experience with this? This is the first time I've seen my engine light ever used. I have cleared the DTC code and got rid of that pesky engine light and will watch to see if it comes back again.
  6. old topic I know but I still cant get my head around the legalities of a BOV. everybody tells me they are illegal but I would have thought even if it was on atmo it is just venting compressed air that has been pulled through the intake? there is no mixing of any bad gases here? any ideas - im sure its simple enough it just doesnt make sense to me? I get the whole excessive noise arguement but that's not really an environmental issue in which I led to believe was at the core of the BOV's being illegal. ive got a GFB hybrid BOV which most of the time is on plumback so interested to see if Mr Plod would have an issue with this when they see the trumpet sticking out. there seems to be so many conflicting points of view
  7. depending on what mods you have done if its only pretty minor you may get away with some warranty work, but I agree get it fixed before you get it tuned. otherwise you start complicating things and introducing more variables and starts to mke it more of a challenge to troubleshoot. Then again Jim @ Tunehouse is a legend and I'm sure if he says he can fix it, it will get sorted.
  8. yep had it serviced & tuned, nice firm shifts between 1/2/3 but now is sloppy going into 4th and the top end gears slip. been told the E clutch has definately gone (im sure that's what it was called).
  9. some good info, time for me to buy a battery charger to have on hand
  10. I had the same issue and couldnt even get the stock tune on and my xcal locked me out, had to drive it over to Jim @ Tunehouse running really rough and after a bit of playing around he got it sorted and the tune back on the car. Since then havent used it at all, dont want a repeat of it or damage my ECU. Got a feeling my xcal is a bit dodgy as its never worked as it is supposed to.
  11. sounds good to me - enjoy!
  12. I've had all of the above as well as top end gears slipping and been putting up with it for the last 6 months. I've done my injectors, CAI, dump + cat, tune. Car went good for a few months then the stalling started. I'm no expert but after having the car checked out a few times I dont think it is any of the mods and am focusing on the transmission. reason why I think its all related to the transmission is; 1. happens regularly when going P->R or ->D (seems to pull the revs down just enough when going between these gears to make it stall), 2. seems to happen when coming to the lights and it changes down a gear (whether in auto or sports/manual) just as its about to stall if I quickly put it in neutral it stabilises instantly. I've already had the tranny serviced @ 30,000km and tuned but still happening intermittently. I've got the tranny booked in for stage 3 build to fix up the top end issues and overhaul/strengthen the whole box so I can comfortably do some more mods with out the fear the tranny is going to give out in the mean time. I'm hoping it will correct all these other little issues that I'm having. For the diff bushes I've destroyed the original set and had them replaced with some comp grade ones, its a bit clunky but feels solid as.
  13. bring on the stage 3 transmission rebuild....

  14. hi guys at what point should I consider doing my valve springs. I havent had any issues as yet and still relatively minor mods (tune, CAI, 100cpsi cat, dump, injectors) but wondering should I replace them as a preventative measure?
  15. Happy Birthday Timmy-XR6T!

  16. Chris - cant believe you actually went through with it !!!! All aside good luck in the new car, should be a beaut!
  17. spotted a few times out in prospect, Octane FG with Black Powder coated rims and rear wing sprayed black - great looking car.
  18. Thanks for starting the post up Reg. My 2cents; Track/driving courses would be great. Even day runs on the weekend work for me. AFF have had a few recently (charity runs as well) which I have been along to with good turn outs. Also what about having some dyno comps hosted by one of our many sponsors? always good fun if you make a day of it with some food and drinks and +1 for photos, I havent been able to make any of the recent ones held.
  19. top post - thanks for compling this !
  20. +1
  21. My 50 has had custom tune, 4" dump, 100cpsi cat, growler/big mouth CAI and 800cc injectors and this did 337rwkw on a hub-attach dyno so the number is probably a little bit high but the car still drives quality and goes hard. My last fg xr6 did 255rwkw stock on the same dyno.
  22. yep was tuned when I got the engine done, talking to tunehouse about it at the moment to see if they can help with it.
  23. Hi guys- I have this issue which is happening pretty regularly now. When I am on the freeway in sports mode, lets say 4th gear and I push the accelerator as the car starts to spool up and get ready to boogy it changes into 5th gear by itself. I would then take my foot off the accelerator and go WTF, and hit the accelerator again, and then it goes into 6th gear????? Car is fine, giving it a bit of juice 1st through 3rd with no issues - seems only 4th gear and above. Has anybody seen this or got any ideas? I've had it in the shop twice now but in true form - it doesnt do it and we cant find the fault. Cheers, Tim
