Hello, Yes the button clutch takes a bit of getting used too that's for sure I have had the car back about a week, getting of the line smoothly is a bit of a challenge, as the clutch tends to grab and shudder on the last bit of the clutch pedal. As for the 5 speed well I wont give it too much of a rough time but if she pops then T56 will go in if that happens. if I am rolling in 3rd gear and give it a hit as soon as I see 3500-4000 Rpm she breaks traction anyway if the TC is off haha :-) So I think my sh*t tyres will save the 5 Speeder for a while.

Getting Extra Kw Without Replacing 5 Sp Man Gearbox
daboss351 replied to mattxr6tute's topic in General Tech
Yes it should be ok if you drive normally, and just give it the occasional boot, smooth launches and smooth gear changes will save the gearbox for sure, But dumping off the line is what kills them they dont like the shock. Mine have 123K on it too but I bought it from a dealer with 92K on the clock and the box failed after 1 month so had it replaced for nothing under stat warranty. So mine is new and its done 31k with normal driving and the occasional boot of the line :-), T56 would be nice though but $3850 for a conversion. -
I have 278 rwkw with a T5 and its ok so far! My clutch does slip in 3rd-5th gear though so I guess that's saving the gearbox a bit. But its like anything if you give it a hard time everytime you drive it it wil eventually break. I think mal wood does T56 conversion for around $3850 if you want to be on the safe side. I also know a guy with a BA Ute that was running 400 rwkw with a T5 and it lasted a little while he told me he ran a special gearbox oil in it but dont remember exactly what it was.

Getting Extra Kw Without Replacing 5 Sp Man Gearbox

I Have a T5 XR6 T with 278 rwkw and its ok, it all depends on how you drive the car too!!! I will say though my tyres that I have arent that great either and break traction easy which I think saves the load on the gearbox too, I have read that the main killer of a T5 is hard launches. If you dont abuse it too much then it will be ok, but if you want to drag race people in sh*tty commodores and Jap buzz boxes on a regular basis then yes the T5 will pop for sure even with a standard engine. -
Hey guys, have a bit of a problem with my BA XR6T manual when I press the brake pedal 4-5 times quickly the engine soon stalls after. I not quite sure where to start but it indicates to me there is a vac leak somewhere, or the brake booster is on its way out. and sometimes if I come up the the traffic lights on the brake the engine will almost stall too, Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In my personal opinion I would go the GT, But it would be on looks alone. As for the GS I have heard the motor just runs a different tune to the GT, But if I was spending that sort of money on a car you are better off getting what you want and not going for something less!! If your heart says GT then the choice is easy GT GT GT GT. If you get the GS you will be thinking I should have got the GT. I would get an ex demo too with low K's as you can save a lot of money and get one that has been optioned up with better brakes etc for around $64K to $69K. My choice Black GT with the gold stripes and bin the stock 19"s and get aftermarket 20"s.

After reading these forums I found stalling problem it was 2 wires going into a black plug at an angle into the head on the drivers side were melted and shorting out, Problem fixed.

Ok Car is back and all good, Most Problems have been fixed and its going well, Car has a little bit of a rough idle now and stalls occasionally with the Air-con tuned on. Ended up with 278 RWKW which is not too bad not really after anymore than that at this stage!! Dont think the standard clutch would be up to anymore than that and also the gearbox for that matter. Thanks for the helpful suggestions everyone

Ok that's a relief then my injectors are black, could not remember what colour the originals were haha, that makes me feel a bit better then. Its back getting retuned for free now so I cannot really complain. Hopefully Its a bit better this time. Cheers

well you are right I am doubting if the valve springs and injectors are done now!!! you would never know would you!!! I will put it down to a bad experience for sure. Funny thing is if the hose was not loose I probably would not have checked guess it was a good thing that the hose was loose. Any Idea to check if the valve springs and injectors have been done!!! without taking the rocker cover off??

yes I know the Air fuel ratio is not good now, the mechanic shop has offered to re tune for no charge as they should I think as the car was tuned with that crossover not connected properly!!!!! As for the weapon X coils yes this could have been just an honest mistake, what happened to the job card??? thought that these would have been added as they claim they changed the spark plugs. Took my car to CV performance as they have done quite alot of turbos and because they are close to me. They seem like a pretty helpful bunch of guys but I am a little dissapointed after this experience to be honest. Car goes back to them on monday morning hopefully they can redeem themselfs and do the job properly this time around. :punchhead:

BTW when first dynoed it was making 210 RWKW with just Xforce system and 8psi generic flash tune, after valve springs, and custom 13psi tune it was making 245 RWKW but with the air getting in the throttle body and no weapon X coils!!! not really a big gain dissapointing if U ask me
-
ok checked the car last night and found that the crossover pipe was not properly fitted to the throttle body - that solves the boost problems!!! car is boosting well now. mechanic told me he set it at about 13 psi, to my surprise the so called weapon x coils I requested had not been fitted :-( they charged me for them though!!!! so went back to mechanic this moring and he gave me coils Hope this solves the 4000rpm and over flatness. also I should mention when it does go flat over 4000rpm it pumps fuel out the exhaust pipes. Thanks for the sugestions guys. Will fit the weapon X coils tonight and see if they help. Will need the custom tune looked at again as it is most probably wrong as they would have tuned it with the air getting into the throttle body flange!!!! Doh haha
-
I have just the standard fuel pump, Checked all the pipes. Could be clutch slip too but the mechanic said there was none. Seems to have boost though because when I lift off accelrator or change gears it has the usual blow off sound!! Yes I thought the output was fairly low for the mods. It had had a custom tune put in it too!!! the dyno shows it makes good power to about 4000rpm then it drops away sharply. mechanic says it could be the wastegate acutator. But I guess its just process of elimination.

Hi Guys I have a BA XR6T 5 speed manual it has had the valve springs done, 60lb injectors and, weapon X coils just fitted and also full X force exhaust with 4" dump and hiflow cat. On the dyno it shows it is making 245Kw at the wheels, when driving it seems to go very well up to about 4000RPM but after that it feels rather flat and just revs up to 5500rpm and no accelerating like it does before 4000rpm, feels like boost drop maybe any ideas???????
-
Had the same problem on My car and it is also a 2003 BA Just changed the Fuel filter and bought standard plugs and gapped them to 0.7mm Plugs were like $4.80ea and problem solved, I just get Valve bounce over 5000 RPM now on boost, Guess my Valve springs are farked haha :-)

Hey Guys Just Had my first taste of a 12/02 BA XR6T, I then bought it straight away after driving the thing haha. Picked up a "Acid Rush" XR6T with 90K kms for $16K was a one owner car too and he removed the turbo badge haha. It has a 5 speed manual though but the driving I have done so far is pretty good the T5 aint the slickest shifiting box though!!!. Not sure if the car is standard though as the turbo blow off sound is quite prominent when changing gears is this normal for a stock XR6T?? Have also had the engine somtimes drop cylinders at about 3500 RPM at hard acceleration!!! but it does not seem to happen often!!! Have driven V8 falcons for 13 years and loved them but holy crap this is what I have been missing haha. Awsome car :-)
