  1. Hi all, I've got the same problem with my stock '04 BA XR6T. For the past couple of days, when I accelerate moderately or above and the revs hit the right level, the engine starts to flutter like it's not firing properly. My mechanic has immediately said that it's "probably the turbo" but reading this post before I give it to him to look at tomorrow makes me wonder... A couple of questions come to mind: 1/ Does the scheduled service cover replacement of coils or are they considered a non-consumable to be replaced when they stop functioning correctly? 2/ What are the symptoms and consequences of a turbo dying? How would I know for sure? 3/ Can anyone recommend a specialist with turbos in Melbourne (preferably Western or Central) who can give me an honest health check on the old girl? Thanks in advance.
  2. '04 XR6T with 160,000 in five years just gone (kinda snuck up on me as I wasn't going to keep it this long - I just liked it too much to want to get rid of it) The car's been great but it's starting to show its age now. Things that are starting to go wrong and have just or are yet to be fixed: Tranny (4sp auto) - starting to clunk badly and can take up to 4 seconds to find reverse Suspension work - ball joints, lower control arm bushes, rear shocks, rear upper control arm bushes Brakes - rotors are cactus - they were just machined in April however were too thin to keep their shape Constant pressure valve hose fitting snapped off in the air inlet manifold Climate control damper solenoid to control airflow at your face has died (complete dash out job for a $5 part I've heard!) The good news is that because I've kept it so long, it owes me nothing and I'm now about to replace it as my daily drive. Now I can have a bit of a tinker with it...(do the boys and girls at home know how to spell project car?)
