  1. Sweet! I was hoping they had introduced the flick key. Has anyone had any problems with the flick key? Does it make any unusual noises when flicking? haha! I'm joking! Tab, hold the key to your head the next time you're out of range and then try it! Not sure what it does to the brain but it sure magnifies the distance! haha!
  2. I heard that the FPV GT was going supercharged for 2010...can't find the article now...can't remember where I read it either! D'oh!
  3. I remember the older Fords having absolutely massive massive keys. With a big chunky plastic/remote part and long keyu as well. Just wondering if they are still like that or have they updated the look slightly for the FG keys... I'm not saying this is going to sway my decision with what car to get...just wondering if it's still the same! Like I said, slightly odd I know! hehe! Cheers for the help guys!

    Why An Xr6t?

Fair point Matt. I can't see myself having anymore then about 5 or 6 trackdays a year. Mainly to Sydney, but there could be the odd one to Melbourne too (can't have a trackbike and not put it around Philip Island!). There will be highway trips (without towing) as well, but I know that the Rexy will not be as comfy as the Ford. I believe the Rexy's have around 400nm don't they..which I would have thought would be able to tow 400odd kg's fairly comfortably. Admittedly, the torque is higher up, but with the 2.5l engine, there is some from down low. With regards to mods, I don't really care about power. The only power related thing I would bother doing to either car would be exhaust system. With the Ford, I'd be doing brakes/suspension first. My want of a manual car is also another factor, as I've heard a fair few people with things like driveline thumps and the like a lot more with the manual then the Auto. Bear in mind, I have't driven either car! THe only Rexy I've driven was a very lightly (but tastefully modded) 98 wrx (I'm thinking of a 07 STi), and the only XR's I've driven is a BA NA XR6 and my brother AU Series I XR8! Even though we're only looking at buying the car next year, I'm thinking of pushing up the test drive as I can't stand the wait to find out which I like much longer! hehe!

    Why An Xr6t?

True, I haven't looked into the servicing costs yet actually...thanks for reminding me! However, the quality and the amount of problems that I have heard of with the Fords does scare me...as does depreciation. I mean we don't buy sports car as an investment true enough, but what did that other thread say? They half they're value in 3 years? I guess I'll have to see what it feels like from the seat of the pants test...

    Why An Xr6t?

Dashturbo, the wrx and the XR6T are two very different cars. Straight line speed is not what they WRX's are about though. Mind you I'd be looking at an '07 STi for the same money (can't stand the i30 look-a-like that the 08/09 Subaru's are) and they are a bit quicker then the WRX times you listed there. But tight corners, I can't see the Ford (or Expensive Daewoo for that matter) keeping up. They have more grip and therefore can put much more power down. Plus I believe the handling is much better, but you'd expect that when the STi weighs like 400kg less. It's difficult to compare the two, part of me thinks that the XR6T is too nice! Not boy-racer enough for me at this stage! And I completely agree with Wolf, an Evo is useless for towing a boat, as it a WRX. But the WRX can tow a motorbike trailer with 1 - 2 bikes on it...which is all I need. I just think with AWD, 400kg, brembo's and good suspension, the WRX will out-handle the XR6T. And like I said, handling is a big part of what I'm after in a car. Who knows, I could test drive both tomorrow and hate the WRX and that's fine...just putting suggestions out there to see who eles has had the same connumdrum...

yea, see, not a real fan of the sound of the boxer engines...which could be a potential problem! The other thing I don't like about the WRX's is there are so many around, but it's not like the XR6T is a limited edition either huh! hehe! Unfortunately, I think insurance might be the decider!

    Why An Xr6t?

Gotta admit, I am starting to take a slightly harder look at the WRX STi now. 07 model. It's got enough of a towing capacity for me. But the biggest hurdle is insurance. As mentioned elsewhere, Suncorp was double the price for a stock STi. I'm just thinking that the WRX will be quicker in more situations then the XR6 Turbo, and less quality control issues. I've heard some horror stories on here about Subaru's, but I don't think they're actually that bad. It's not as nice a place inside as the FG's for sure, but I think I'd be ok with that at the moment. I remember looking at a poll on here before, which is more important to you, straight line speed or cornering and stopping? The latter for me is where it's at. I don't believe that without spending serious money a XR6 Turbo would be able to compete in tight twisty corners like a WRX could. And for the record, I'd much prefer an Evo, but they dont' have a towing capacity at all. But then, the faster flowing stuff, the XR6 Turbo would hold it's own wouldn't it? I dunno just thinking! Like my sig says! hehe!
  10. I would have thought so mate. Immobiliser's have been around for quite awhile, surely it would be standard. And a BA MKII is what 2004/05? Don't take this as literal, but I'm fairly sure they have one...whether or not it is up to Australian Standards is another thing, but you'd hope so being an Aussie built car!
  11. I do love gadgets! Thanks for the advice and tips guys!
  12. Haha! Love it!
  13. Okay so it is possible to hook up a DVD player to the existing colour screen. Which I'm guessing would be easier then upgrading the standard screen. Could the upgraded screen still show all the original info...like temp climate control etc? However I am more the guy who will rock up to a sound shop and say fix it and give them a fat wad of cash...although I do have a lot of mates who are really good at this stuff to actually! Guess it'll give me the chance to learn as well. Oh, and that's another thing...I don't use a bloody Ipod! How bout MP3 player hook-up rather then only Ipod...sh*t's me a bit!
  14. It seems like modding makes the fuel economy better! I was thinking BP ultimate would be the best for it.
  15. Is it possible/worth it to upgrade the speakers and sub and leave the standard unit in there? Or change the unit, leave the colour screen and upgrade the speakers?
  16. Hey guys, Couldn't find anything specific to this question in search, so hopefully I haven't missed anything! When I eventually choose an FG (buying 2nd hand) if I get one with the premium sound pack...is that good enough? If I do want to upgrade the sound system, is it easier to do that with the standard sound system? Based on other posts, I believe the colour screen is only available with the luxury pack and not the premium sound pack correct? Appreciate any info and advice guys! Cheers Mish

    Colours

Octane is ending in 09 or 08? Coz I had a look on the website and can't see it now. Not that it matters coz I'm buying 2nd hand anyway! I love Octane, especially with the multi-spoke wheels! Girlfriend prefers Dash though...which is still hawt I think...
  18. I did a quote with Suncorp and it was the lowest that I've got from anywhere. Plus, when I checked the option for a high performance zorst, it didn't change the premium one bit! Basically with Suncorp, for my girlfriend as primary and me secondary, costs less to insure a modified $38k XR6T, then it does for me to insure my 07 GSXR-750 (motorbike) which is probably about $11k - $12k at the most...and stock!
  19. To bring this topic back, I thought the aim of launch control in the manual was so that one didn't have to slip the clutch...thus prolonging the life of the clutch and maximising grip. From the sounds of it, you still have to do it all yourself. And to engage it, I believe is simply holding the clutch in for a few seconds and building up revs? And then it limits it to 3500? Is that right?
  20. Cheers Nolz! That leads me to here...

    New Members Thread

I know what you mean Will, but the depreciation is the only reason I'm able to buy one in the first place! That and the fact that there isn't anything else out there that's quick enough and can tow!
  22. Hey Mort, seeing as no one has done this as yet... ...been wanting to do that! This is something that I myself want to do...although I'm not sure how well one would be able to integrate an aftermarket system with the existing buttons on the steering wheel etc. I haven't been able to find much directly related to an FG XR6T in the mutlimedia forum. It's always much harder on the new ones to upgrade I think. Speakers and stuff shouldn't be too hard, but the main unit itself could be tough!
  23. Riiiiiight! Got it! Thanks a lot guys!
  24. Unless run-out deals are in the same range as the friends deal, we're gonna have to stick to 2nd hand. The more I look at it, the more I like the FG! I wonder how much better the MK II will be, but when you're working on a budget, you have to get what you can afford!
  25. Sorry SLider, can't answer your question, instead, I'm gonna ask another! I think I know what the 19x9.5 means...19 inch diameter and 9.5inch wide yea? But what does the +XX (in this case +20) mean? I've seen Erko talking about heaps of different + numbers...is that the profile of the tire in MM? By the way very very hot wheels! The dish is absolutely tops!
