Sorry, my bad. I'm talking about the FG. If the rotors are bigger...does that in anyway affect servicing costs or anything like that? I imagine that the pads might get used a lil' bit more quickly but that's all I can really see.
-
hey guys, just a quick question. Is there (and if so what is it) a difference between the brakes on an XR6 and and XR6 Turbo? The ford website says that the Turbo gets "Performance brakes" but I thought they were pretty much the same. Appreciate your help!

Nice write up dude!

What I'm trying to figure out (and I'm sorry that this is a bit off-topic) is, is it a good enough car compared to like a Mazda 6MPS? I really like the FG XR6 Turbo, but am very worried about Ford reliability and quality control. I read an owner review on Drive.com and the guy said after 6months the car felt like it was 10 years old. How long have you had yours for now JP? Coupla months yea? One of the biggest issues is that I need a manual, and I think I've only heard one decent report about the manual out of all of 'em!

This is what I was wondering about. I wouldn't have thought that just anyone can walk into a Ford dealership and ask them for a staff discount on a new XR6T
-
What's to stop you from trying to sell it on for the usual price of like low $40k mark? That's a bloody awesome price though! Is this a deal that ends (the staff discount) or is it on all the time?
-
Thanks mate, will give that a go and see what they say!
-
I am thoroughly confused by this staff discount thing. So can I walk into a Ford dealership, start talking to them about an XR6T, and ask them their best price, when they say $45k, then I say, "Well how about a staff discount?". Is that how it goes? I can't imagine them saying, "Oh, ok, we'll just take $8,000 off the price." Won't they just say, "No."? Not having a go at anyone, I'm just confused. It sounds bloody fantasitc, coz the staff discount price for an FG is around about what we wanna spend, especially coz we're going Manual. I just don't understand how it works is all.

Cheers, I just wonder who would be able to deisgn something like that...

whoops! got øem around the wrong way! cheers!

Hey guys, sorry if this has been asked before, did a search but couldn´t find much. Trying to convince a friend to go the F6 Ute over a Maloo, but he insists that it´s still called the Typhoon (and the sedan is called the Tornado). On the FPV website I can´t find those names, so I´m guessing that settles it right?
-
Hahahahaha!

Nice mate, glad you got sorted in the end! Pics when you have it huh!

So how's this been going Rhino?

That´s a fantastic write up there John, thanks for that. We have slightly re-evaluated the whole daily driver thing. My girlfriend will be buying a motorbike as well so we´ll both be using our own bikes for the majority of the daily commute. There will be the odd time we take it to work but shouldn´t be too often. I think at this stage I am ready to sacrifice comfort for a bit more speed and the uncompromising nature of something like and Evo or an STi. It´s like you said, I'm quite willing to race 18 year old's from the lights! haha! I'm quite happy to admit that I'm slow if the other cars you mentioned are quicker then me around a track...all I'll do is get lessons. The other cars you mentioned (except the FG F6 and the Supra TT) don´t really do it for me. The MPS3 is a maybe, but I´m not keen on having a FWD car any more. Had them for far too long and from my point of view it´s time to upgrade to AWD or RWD. I have a couple of mates who have Evo VIII´s (MR´s too) and use them as daily cars and they have absolutely no issues with them. I think all cars have an image thing. On many other forums all people who drive Fords are fat bogun's with mullet's. Just like on many other boards the consenus is that people who drive Evo's and STi are Jap racers wannabe's with a driver door wish list and backwards baseball cap wearing cocky kids who don't know how to drive. For me, the Evo is that car that I have been dreaming about for a long time...Since the Evo 2 or 3 back in the mid 90's. So that is a big thing. The towing that I can get around... With regards to being carjacked in the STi, I thought that the Brandt alarm system was designed to prevent exactly that. Something like if the doors is opened while car running and seatbelt done up the car stops...anyway, that's what insurance is for! Like I said, the main thing for me is, I'm quite happy putting up with the stiff unforgiving ride if it goes, handles and stops better! I mean, the main reason I was looking at the Ford in the first place was coz of the lack of towing ability on the Evo, but I have since worked a way around it. As you can see, I'm leaning towards the Evo quite a bit, but like I said, I haven't test driven any of them, so that could change my mind totally! Again! haha!

Fair enough Scotty, I see that barely legible writing... Still not sure about why such strong feelings against one wanting to make the XR6T look a bit more sporty but fair play to the "Forum Troll"! hehe!

Most of the stuff I have learnt has been from two members who have been very helpful in sending me info on the mods they have done to their cars to enhance it a bit. I've read heaps of threads on this site...but the PM's were the most helpful coz they were answering the exact questions I had...I'll do some looking and see what other threads helped me. Edit: Just did a search... http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...54&start=54 What to do BF F6 vs FG XR6T http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...c=57638&hl= Why an XR6T http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...c=57765&hl= xr6t vs skyline http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...c=51147&hl= Insurance http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...c=47303&hl= Fuel usage http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...c=57568&hl= XR6 Turbo Manual The last one, I know I created it, but I got heaps of useful replies.

Cheers Dags...I totally forgot...

Ha...everytime I see your post come up all I see is "Wanker". You honestly think a 2lt Audi would shame an XR6 Turbo? But to get real here...some people prefer sleeper cars...some people prefer sportier looking cars. I know which I prefer, I know which you prefer, why does a sportier looking car mean "WANK" exactly? Beacuse it's something you don't like? That must be it. I guess the F6 looks "Wank" to you as well because it's sporty huh?
-
I thought that the leaf springs were for the 1 tonne carrying capacity. Can springs hold that much as well?
-
Hmmm...so sportier =`wank I´ll have to remember that. Here I was thinking that becuase I wanted a car to look sportier was just what I wanted it to look like.
-
This is something that I would definitely think about doing. It´s all good saying that if you look at the car from the front or the back you know what it is...but quite often you´re looking at the side and you want something to difrentiate it from the NA. Another thought, instead of putting the whole ´TURBO´boot badge on the doors, maybe just a red (or another colour that suits the colour of the car) ´T´after the ´6´...subtle but still tells people what´s really going on!

should read the whole thread huh...D'oh!
