This problem is so widespread with all FG Turbo ute's im surprised it hasn't been fixed. I had this rectified at Strapp Ford in Burwood Vic. They insulated part of the handbrake cables and the noise was gone for a good 12 months. Its back now however. The resonance from the exhaust manages to viabrate the hand brake cables and make that noise. If you pull the handbrake up when its happening you'll hear to disappear immediately. There are not enough brackets holding this exhaust up and it moves too much. This is also why people who put custom exhausts on find the noise goes as well. Different mounting points and different characteristics of the exhaust noise. You're ute's not a lemon, its just that Ford are skint and can't be arsed fixing the problem. I recently had Q Ford in Brisbane try and convince me the noise was from worn handbrake shoes, and that adjusting them makes it go away. In reality, it makes the noise 50% less but now the handbrake doesn't hold as it should. Wankers charged me $130 for it too, even though its still under warranty. Ring Strapp Ford in Vic and ask how its fixed,

I like the Dunlops. Last well, good grip in the dry and wet. I bought another set when my originals were worn. Very cheap on eBay.com.au I have yokohama Advans on my other car. 295 45 20. Awesome tyres and very quiet

F6 interior sh*ts on a GS. I sat in one the other day as I was waiting for the Ute to be serviced. Everyone on here is right. Its the same inside as an XR6 No big brakes either, no FPV front end, I just think its a poor package. Guys who will buy this sort of car / ute maybe stepping out of an F6 / Pursuit. They dont want to go backwards imo. There should be a Pursuit 335 Ute. Sign me up.

My record the other day was $1.653 Cost me $131 to fill the Benz up. I cant remember the last time it or the Ute was under $100? Good thing they are both company cars :D

Just had my car serviced. Its done 50500 klms and the dealer said I needs new pads and rotors all round. The idiots want $3.5k - and aparently the rear brakes/discs are more expensive than the front 4 pot brmebo Dics/pads Is there anywhere we can buy the discs direct from Brembo? Here or overseas?

I was ripped $130 by Q Ford in Qld past week. I had that annoying rattle that occurs in the FG Turbo ute, goes away when u pull up the handbrake. Anyway, it was 'fixed' about 9 months ago at a Ford dealer in Burwood Vic as I was living there at the time. Recently the noise came back, so at the service I asked them to rectify again. I get the bill and it's $515 for the service, including $130 for adjusting the handbrake. The noise is still there and I feel ripped as this was a warrant issue last time, apparently not now, even though I have a year left!

Dont bother, youll probably break the tailshaft CV and feel like a total ass.

Where's my leather, nice looking interior, colour screen, ipod connection and everything else. . . ? Where the Pursuit!?!? Fk it im buying a Toyota Tundra. The GS will be agony to own depeciation wise. Better hope your business turns over some $$$

God you don't even get bonnet insulation.

I think the same as well. I have had my F6 for nearly 2 years now and intend on selling it with 6 months left on the warranty, as you still get some sort of half reasonable price I sat in a GS Ute the other day and was very disappointed. Its full poverty pack. The sales people will tell you that brembos can go on and all the rest, but then its still only an overpriced 'GS' ute. I'm waiting for a Pursuit type package as well and if it doesn't appear I might look at other brands. Love the F6 but would hate to buy the same car again.

Don't know if they have updated the tail shafts, but if not, id be putting some better quality CV joints (Chrome moly) in the tail shaft or you will blow them to bits with 400 rwkw

Ford Still Agonising Over Falcon Xr8 Engine
schmick325 replied to f-wolf's topic in General Car Talk
I reckon drop the XR8 They are a rare sight on the roads anyway. Heavy, thirsty and slow compared to an SS and an XR6T -
New shaft was about $2200. Full custom end to end. I've done about 25,000kms on it now and its still great. Mine broke when going over a speed hump! For about a week prior, I had noticed a slight knock when taking off from a stand still.

I'm on agreed value and choice of repairer with Just Car. All for $860 a year on a 2009 F6 Ute No way in hell I'd be insured with AAMI. Seems strange as they own Just Cars but they are not good to deal with when it comes to getting your car repaired. Anyone who does insurance work will tell you the same thing.

He's talking about the CV's in the tailshaft. There are 2. One in the middle and one at the back. The back one looks like this when it goes. I've done about 25,000 kms on my custom shaft and its held up very well. Awesome car mate, you will love it. Theres nothing better than working your guts out all day and getting into it to drive home, even if there's heaps of traffic BTW, if you dont mind, how much did you pay for it? Mines a 2009 with a little less kms and was wondering what its value is.

once warmed up and say you're sitting at a set of lights in D, the most annoying noise from underneath the car. goes away if you pull up the handbrake. Common on the FG Auto turbo utes and I had mine fixed at Ford.
-
Awesome ute, youll love it. As for a Subaru, what a boring hunk of crap. Im in the auto industry and work on all cars and they have the worst steel. Subaru's aren't anything to gloat about over a ford!

when you say ABS ECU, do you mean the ABS module? If so, its a part of the ABS pump and usually the whole unit is replaced. Its in the engine bay on the left side near the firewall. You're looking at over $1k from Ford. A few months ago I had an 05 BAII XR6 ute kicking around and it has the ABS light on. I bought a 2nd hand pump/module from the wreckers for $150 and it worked great. Fitted it, hadto reset it with the computer and all was good.

Ive done 6000 kms since having mine fixed and its still silent. no misaligned exhaust either!
-
Buy an XR6T and use the $20k extra along with the FHOG and buy a house. By the time your 30 you'll be well infront.
-
Unless the factory are fitting the updated tailshafts on the production line, id be prepared for: that's a blown rear tailshaft CV I had a whole custom shaft made from scratch as there was a 5 week backorder from Ford at the time mine went. Here's a pic of the old CV cage and the much better Chrome Moly one. All that really needs to be done is replacing the 2 CV's in the shaft as the standard ones are junk.

Ive got an Auto FG F6 and I love it, however my next ute will be a manual. Its more fun and the manuals hold their value better than the Auto's. Ive done over 30k kms in my ute and no diff noises whatsoever. What you have to watch for is the tailshaft. Mine blew in 6000 kms. Warranty job. Another annoying noise was a rattle from the hand brake cables, fixed under warranty though. Hopefully they would have fixed that problem on the production now though.

The fixed cameras on the Ring Road in Melbourne do not flash 1 bit. I got a fine for 107 in a 100 zone and the time was 5.20am. Was driving to the Airport. I am from QLD and had no idea there were cameras on the rd and definetly did not see a flash. Sp if these cameras are new in NSW, theres a good chance they dont flash either. The sneeky bastards down here hide them behind the normal Green road signs, and they nab you as you go under them. No warning signs

Happens on mine, especially if you are at a standstill and say turning left or right quickly. I just put it down to another quirk of the car. It is a Ford.
