Haha yep hawlass was spot on, took it for a spin last night, re-flashed the ECU back to 12psi and she's good as new

Unfortunately no fairies came to fix it! But have found the issue, intake manifold gasket needed to be replaced. Thanks everyone for all your help

Unfortunately no, couldn't find a leak anywhere..... have to travel for work tomorrow so I'm not going to get another look at it till Thursday :( don't like leaving my poor baby sick

Yeah problem is I need something to read the codes with though don't I? and I wouldn't mind guessing the only place with the equipment in my town is the Ford dealership :( not a lot of places to go here in a country town

Thanks everyone it's greatly appreciated, general consensus everywhere I have looked points to a vacuum leak somewhere, going to have to look at this again in the clear light of day, if I can just get it drivable I'll be able to go see what codes it's throwing.

Sorry! Yeah I guess that wasn't the best way of putting it, I checked the vac lines I just meant that I checked the intake pipes and everything as well

Hmmm couldn't find any vac leaks but it;s starting and idling in P or N now no worries, but once it goes into gear that's when things start to get really interesting! Just made a quick video of what is happening.

Cheers! trying to find it now, nothing obvious from what I can see, I have a plazmaman intercooler and the large hose going into the intake manifold seems fine, I can hear a faint hissing sound though for those few seconds when it idles so I think you might be onto something there

Bit of an update, disconnected the battery again, pumped the break and tried to use headlights etc. to discharge completely and then reconnected the battery after about an hour and it's made the problem worse :S Now when I start the car it idles at about 2500RPM (sounds way too high) for about 5 seconds then the engine cuts out.

Thanks will look into that next had the battery disconnected for 45 mins in total and reconnecting it made no difference I'm afraid :(

Yeah this is what I'm currently doing it's been off for about 15 mins now so was looking for other things too if this doesn't work, have also cleaned the throttle body so far as well

Hi All, Hopefully someone here can help me having a serious problem with my BA MKII XR6T right now. I start the engine and it idles well enough but as soon as I put it into gear the engine light comes on and the power is cut to the engine and I can only start it again by turning the car completely off and starting it again but it still does the same thing. It's a Sunday and even if a mechanic were open I couldn't drive the car there, can anyone offer up some advice as to what I could try looking at? I'm handy enough working on cars provided I know what to look for, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
