Refer to the link .... http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...pic=26199&st=18 I am using BP Visco5000. Any views on using a 5W40 full synthetic instaed of 15W40 part synthetic (ie magnetic) as recommended. Particularily on the impact on the Turbo
-
Anyone using BP Visco 5000 in your XR6t. If so how long have you used this oil in your XR6T and what you think of it. I am considering using it however the local Ford dealer did not recommend it as they thought that being a 5w40 oil, it would leak pass the turbo, and cause the engine to smoke. Indepenmdent tests results on the Web indicate the Visco outperforms Mobile 1??
-
Sorry I meant 5W40 for the Visco 5000
-
-------------------------------- How have you found the Visco 5000? My Ford dealer said that Visco 5000 being 0W40 was to thin for the turbo and that it would cause it to burn oil. What does everyone think? Len

Who did you get your $950 warranty extension from. I presume that it is not a genuine Ford warranty extension, as you say it's a direct replica? Irrespective, your warranty deal sounds pretty good compared to the quote I obtained from some of the Ford dealers in Brisbane ($1395 for 3 year / 160Km, genuine ford warranty extension). Did you check the cover compared to that of the genuine Ford warranty extension? Apparently, the $1395 for the 3 year / 160Mm Ford warranty extension is the recommended retail price only. I was told that the dealer markup can be up to 42% Does anybody know which dealer has the best deal??????????

I just checked the pipe you were talking about. It certainly is connected properly in my case. Any other pipes worth checking that are not so obvious. Len

Same problem happened to me a couple of days ago. The car backfired on starting and then ran very rough for a few minutes. A pile of smoke appeared from under the bonnet. The car seems to run OK now except for when it first starts, it now idles at around 2000rpm for about 5 seconds. It then settles down at around 900 rpm (slightly higher than before). Where is this pipe that blows off located exactly. Len

I noticed a small lump (a dent made from something hitting the bonnet from the underside rather than a normal dent) in the paintwork of the bonnet some months ago. It looks like the dent was made before the car was painted. I took it to the dealer and he said that it woud require a respray of the entire bonnet. As I thought that the respray might be the worse of 2 evils, I decided not to proceed. The dealer made a record of the fault and said that I could get it done under warranty at some later stage if I decided to do so. Well since then (15000Km later) I have noticed that the bonnet seems to chip real easy (stone chips). There are several chips on the bonnet now. I only drive on sealed roads and use a good polish / wax. (Meguires), however this makes no difference. As the car is a blueprint colour you can see the grey undercoat on every chip. The paint seems horribly thin. I intend to complain to the dealer about how thin the paint is and possibly look at getting the bonnet resprayed. Has anyone else experienced this problem / complained to Ford about it? Do you think that it is worth persuing the respray option.??? Len

10. I have the same problem. My blueprint has done 21000Km and has several chips on the bonnet. I however use a good polish / wax. (Meguires). You can see the grey undercoat on every chip. The paint seems horribly thin. I intend to complain to the dealer about how thin the paint is. Has anyone else experienced this problem / complained to Ford about it? Len

I have noticed a rather loud screaming sound that seems to come occassionally from the engine area when accellerating quickly from around 100Kmphr. The sound is like say an alternator with buggered beariings or a fan belt slipping something terrible. The sound only occurs sometimes (its happened about 6 times in about 4 months) when planting the accerelator at around 100 Kmphr. It sounds terrible. Has anyone else experienced such a sound. Any idea what it could be (turbo, auto transmission??).

According to the test report at this website...... http://www.bestsyntheticoil.com/amsoil/fastfour.shtml BP Visco 5000 beats mobil 1, Shell and Castrol fully synthetic oils. What does everyone think of that????????

DavoWA, Thanks for the info. I emailed the Ford Relationship Team again on this oil issue. They phoned me back, but were not willing to put anything in writing. They STILL claim that the FORD factory fill oil on the XR6T is a FULLY synthetic oil. They also claim that the warranty could be affected if I don't use oil which complies to both the SL/CF spec and the viscosity recommendation (15W-40). WRT the some Ford Performance Vehicles using Mobil 1-- 0W-40, they indicated that only the BOSS 290 engines use the Mobil 1 --0W-40 oil. Has anyone noticed any engine rattle or other side effects in using Mobil 1--0W-40, or any other oil for that matter. Is there any risk of poor lubrication or rapid engine wear in using say Mobil 1--0W-40, if you do a lot of trips where the engine cools down significantly after each trip (given that the majority of the wear occurs in the first few minutes after starting a cold engine? DavoWA... you picked a good package.... nearly the same as mine.

I have an XR6T that is just about due for it's 15K oil change! I have questioned 2 Ford dealer worshops, Ford direct (the Customer Relations e-mail service on the WEB on 2 occasions), and Mobil (Melbourne tech support) on the issue of the Ford spec WSE-M2C905, recommended Ford oil R1-340, and use of SAE grade 0W-40 (as in Mobil 1, 0W-40) versus 15W-40 as recommended by Ford. I am dissapointed with the total lack of technical support from Ford. The customer support area basically said that they weren't technically orientated and that I should follow the directions as per the owners manual or any dealers recommendation. They were not willing to relay my querries to someone within Ford who is experienced in this area. There was no real response to any of the questions I asked. The guy said that the Ford oil was a fully synthetic oil. I believe that it is not! Ford did not answer my questionon whether the warranty would be impacted if I used Mobil 1, 0W-40.... A totally hopeless response from Ford. One Ford dealer said that they use Castrol magnatec, and that it complies with the Ford Spec. Note that Magatec is only a partially syntethic oil. The other dealer said that they use Ford oil R1-340 and that is what you should use. No other advice was willingly given about any other oils. The Mobil tech support branch in Melbourne, believed that the Ford oil was not fully synthetic. They recommended Mobil 1, 0W40. They indicated that this oil had very good viscosity when cold (the 0W bit), and the same viscosity when hot (the 40 bit). They could not understand why Ford recommended a 15W-40 oil, as you need oil which is very viscous when cold in order to lubricate the turbo when cold on initial motor start. Anyway to sum up I am very dissapointed with Ford on their lack of tech support. (does anyone have a direct contact within Ford tech support for someone who actually is knowledgable in the area). These questions remain unanswered!! Is the Ford oil fully synthetic or not? I believe not! Is it OK to use a 0W- 40 oil, like Mobil 1, 0W-40, without affecting the vehicle warranty. Is Mobil 1, 0W-40 the better oil to use At this stage I am leaning to go with Mobil 1, 0W-40 Does anyone have any other sound technical info on these matters??????

I have used the gold class wash followed by the gold class wax on a blueprint xr6t for about 6 times since delivery in april. The gloss level isn't as good as I had expected. Also the car still seems to attract general road grime. I was hoping that the Meguiar's gold class products would acheive a fantastic gloss level as well help repel road grime. I am thinking of either trying the Wetlook polymer selant or perhaps trying another product. I have not used the Deep Crystal polish prior to applying the polish, as after all, this is a new car. What is everyone else's views????????? Is there a magic product out there that protects paint, repels dirt, is durable, is long lasting and has a fantastic gloss level????????? Also I know another XR8 owner who swears by CT-18 Superwash (6 litre truck wash pack from Supacheap). Has anyone used this over a long period of time????? If certainly cleans very well (and streak free).

Can someone tell which mag had the review / comparison of sports cars and rated the XR6T auto, as Number 1. I heard that it was in early June this year? Is the artice on the net somewhere? Len

I filled the tank up from empty the first time. It's been fine from the second tank fill. I have filled it up about 4 times since.
-
The fuel gauge came good on the second tank fill, and has been good ever since. Must have been an air lock or something???
-
Mine has done 1500Km, and is using 12.8 litres / 100Km (according to the trip computer). Based on the liters for the last tank fillup and km travelled it works out at 12.5

I took delivery of an XR6T, blueprint, 18" wheels, premium sound and a few other minor extras on Friday at 5.30 pm. Drove it out of the dealer show room straight into a traffic jam which lasted an hour (stop-start all the way). To top it off, it started to rain. Durng the journey home I was following a truck for part of the way, and the truck wheels sprayed dirty road water all over my previously shiny gleaming car. In the mean time I was itching to speed up and generally see how my new machine performed. I ended up going all the way home at a snail's pace with a dirty car. It had only done 30Km. A sad story!!! I cleaned the car as soon as I got home, and it was restored back to it's previous glory. BUT the next 2 days (the weekend) was a totally different story. My impressions of the car after the weekend (400km down the track) are ..... - Drives fantastic, sticks to the road like glue - Looks fantastic. When you see other drivers at the traffic lights, etc, etc, continually looking at it (particularily the 18" wheels), it feels great - Handles great... good turning circle - Drove to the local football match on the weekend... you should have seen all the people turn around and look at the car. - We were parked at the local shop on Sunday and some guy (around 30 years old) and his wife drove up and parked beside us. Well the guy gets out of his car walks all around the XR6T, inspects it, drools over it for a minute or two, saying to his wife how good it looks. Finally his wife tells him to pull himself together and get back in the car. - The power is incredible... you've only need to touch the accelerator and you can pretty well drag anything else off... The acceleration is like a 747 taking off - Hills no longer exist.. quarter throttle is more than enough to fly up any hill - The ride is comfortable. The inside is great, plenty of room - The sound the engine makes is like music, particularily when the turbo starts to cut it. My wife reckons that I'm obsessed with the car. Strange since the last time I felt this way was many years ago when I owned a hotted up early model Holden. Well there you have it

Thanks for the info!! Len

I've only done 400 Km since I picked it up on Friday. It was filled up when I picked it up. Took 50 litres neat.. that's 12.5Litres/100Km.

After filling the petrol tank my XR6T up for the first time today, I noticed that it took nearly 2 hours before the gauge reached the full mark! (No I was not filling the tank slowly over a 2 hour period) Is this normal?
-
It's arrived and I've picked it up... It looks fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Byrne Ford were great in sorting out the mixup.

I am also trying to get seat covers made out of identical cloth (in my case plexis grey). My dealer indicated that Ford no longer makes seat covers. Please let me know if you have any luck.
