  1. New speed cameras on trial in UK can book drivers from space | Car Advice | News | Reviews Only a matter of time before the Australian government follows suit and starts raping us from outer space. I can imagine the news headlines for 2020. "Hoon in XR8 SC caught doing 220 in the middle of nowhere"
  2. I feel for you buddy, I think these hoon laws are BS. Most of the people who get nabbed are just enthusiasts having the occasional fun, how often do you hear of Mr Initial D getting nabbed. In an ideal society, there would be no such thing as victimless crimes. Why should it be anyone else's business whether I smoke my tyres or a stick of MJ for that matter.
  3. Proof that mental retardation is rampant amongst our bureaucracy.
  4. It's quite possible the Veyron could beat that. It has 700 kw and does the quarter at around 10 seconds. The only catch is that they have to be road cars, and the Bugatti is street legal.
  5. A blown XR8 would be sweet - the next hero cars of the Falcon range. Nothing beats the sound of a supercharged V8.
  6. Dash, I don't think speed limits need to be fixed, nor vigorously enforced during good road conditions. In the States, people often travel at 70mph in 60mph zones all the time and cops don't care. It's all about the appropriate speed for the conditions. Take the example of Montana Highway, fatalities increased with the introduction of artificially low speed limits. If you let drivers go at a comfortable pace, you'll smooth the flow of traffic and get less clumping of cars, less tail gating, and safer distances between cars. Faster drivers will choose the outer lane where they'll be with drivers traveling near the same speed. Less impatience = safer driving. Montana - No Speed Limit Safety Paradox - 2001 UPDATE
  7. CNG has a lower specific energy content than LPG, so if you're after performance - go for LPG. But if you want lower running costs, opt for CNG.
  8. Not bad, now if they could just fix the driveline shunt once and for all.

    Ebay Complaint

Carbz, life is full of hard c*nts like the one you just faced, your comment was obviously a joke. (1) He posted a pic of his kid on the net, which responsible parent does that ? (2) Real pedos are much more subtle If you said that to me, I'd smart arse ya back: "Trophy will cost ya another 100, Kid will cost ya your life so tread carefully".
  10. Of course inappropriate speed is dangerous, 200km/h is insane for any public road. But on that same 70km/h road, 90km/h would be a comfortable speed in good weather and low traffic. Doing 20 over the limit and 130 over the limit are two vastly different scenarios. Bottom line is don't drive like a maniac. Going over by 10-20 in good traffic doesn't increase the likelihood of dying by much at all.
  11. Dash, you're forgetting how dangerous looking at the speed every 5 seconds is, this is especially true during double demerits. Speed cameras may reduce speed related deaths, but it'll do the opposite for deaths due to inattention and fatigue. Driving at a comfortable speed (usually 15 km/h over) with both eyes on the road is always safer than glancing at the speedo every 5 seconds. With eyes on the road, you're more attentive and see more detail. The faster reaction time will more than compensate for the extra braking distance.
  12. I think the original SHO grill looks better on the Taurus. http://cache-01.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/12/2009/01/2010_Ford_Taurus_SHO.jpg G6E grill might have been a better choice. http://p.webwombat.com.au/motoring/car-photos/ford-falcon-g6e-turbo-3-big.jpg The Taurus isn't a bad looking car apart from the front lights, the new Taurus is definitely a big improvement on the older versions and there are great technologies like lane change assist. The reason us Aussies still prefer the Falcon is due to (1) rear wheel drive, (2) lighter car, (3) fast 0-60 mph and (4) Australian made.
  13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RpGKP_FsTc 8K RPM sounds like this, but the turbo whistle sort of drowns out the engine note.
  14. The issue is that most speed limits are set 10-20 below what many consider is a comfortable cruising speed. This is especially true at night when there are less cars on the road. In some countries, speed limits can vary depending on the time.

    My Accident

Ouch, that really sucks to have your pride and joy get written off. Legally speaking, was it all the chick's fault for braking dangerously, or was it the 2nd and 4th drivers for rear ending (I.e. not leaving a safe gap) ?
  16. Guys, I'm 100% with you. I almost hit a side barrier looking at my speedo during the double demerits Easter weekend. A 50 zone in a very hilly and twisty section of road, there needs to be some leeway because the hill descents were pretty steep. This is not about safety, it's anything but. If you guys are organising a large scale protest march or drive, I'm in. There are other forms of protest, mass emailing to the RTA and certain officials. Getting 300,000 people to download a large PDF from the RTA website at the same time - that'll crash their servers.
  17. So true. The other day, I drove 5 km along a narrow, twisty, hilly road with concrete barriers on both sides - the type of road that 100% eye contact. If the RTA want to INCREASE fatalities on that road, I'd say double demerits is a good start. The RTA has raised so much revenue and yet none of the major road problems get fixed, nor any other major social problems. WTF is going on with our govt. In Scandanavia, healthcare, education and roads are free and income is higher (despite a 50% tax rate).
  18. Ford Australia also made a huge loss, 274 million. The fact that Expensive Daewoo lost big too isn't any good news either, this means our large cars will be killed off sooner rather than later.
  19. Wow, 8000 RPM is S2000 and M3 territory.
  20. I just finished a night shift, so it's cool knowing I got home at the same time as I left the office.
  21. That Limo's cool, I've seen a fair few Falcon based limos outside Star City. It's a great platform for limo conversion. As for the hearse, I sure hope that's not a turbo under the bonnet because it wouldn't be cool for a coffin to fly out the back... ...Oh wait, that'd be super cool, just not for relatives of the deceases.
  22. Yeah, that V6 is a monster by 6 cylinder standards. I wonder how well it'd do in a Falcon, twin turbo and light weight alloy material. It'd definitely lighten the heavy front end that XR6T's have.
  23. This article is spot on, I would even go as far as to say that speed cameras in 40km/h school zones are hazardous to children. The constant need to look at the speedo means less eye time on the road and children.
  24. Fark, the govt is investing our taxpayer money in a system that milks even more money out of us. We are getting royally shafted.
