  1. Okay Just a followup it was the starter motor I took the starter to an auto electrician just to be safe. Just in case I blew my money on a new starter. And yeah The starter was stuffed which in turn was wearing down my battery quite badly from the constant cranking and it was very worn anyway whacked in the new starter and she turns over so smooth now mine must of been going downhill for a while casue it has never started this smoothly before so thanks for the replies hopefully this may help someone who gets a similar prob majority of the time it is a simple fix thank you.
  2. Okay I got the old starter out and I must say of all the years working on cars that was one of the hardest things to get out the top is just so hard to get to and you have to do it by feeling for the bolt you cant see it at all from underneath the car. Anyway I got quoted 269 for a new one but I did see some aftermarket ones going on ebay for 130 but the listing only goes up to the ba models will this fit the bf I thought these 2 models engine wise were almost identical just trying to save a few bucks thanks.

  5. Okay I got under the car the strter in these is so tight to get to and anyway I gave the starter a few taps with the hammer. Tried to start it and then the starter engaged but sounded very very sick. the sound is hard to describe but more of a whirring sound. So I think it is definately the starter and when she wouldnt start the other night I did crank her over quite alot and I think this has finished her off. Anyway should I just get a solenoid for it or change the whole unit thanks for all your replies.
  6. Okay guys it aint the battery my mate bought his xr over we used his battery no luck I got all the dash lights everything when I turn to start it is dead not a sound nothing. I dont know what is wrong with it any ideas anyone might just have to bit the bullet and get it towed to the auto electrician after the hristmas break could it be the starter any help would be great to save dollars.
  7. Okay I will try and keep this brief my xr6 has been playing up for about a week just turning over really slowly then cutting out and then when you give it another shot after a stall it went fine sometime did sometimes didnt and it gave a clunking sound. Anyway tonite at the shops it did the unthinkable to me it wouldnt crank over just really slow and then just dieing on me anyway it was dark late. I rang a mate who come and tried to jump it for me and the worst thing happened during the jump the postive lead on his car jumped off touched the chassis and sparks were flying for about 5 secs. Anyway we tried one more time it just wouldnt start, I get all my dash lights everything working all the ignition components turn on but when I turn the lights on while trying to crank the lights dont even go dim so it isnt even trying to turn over. I really ^&*(*^%%$ hope nothing has shorted on it its just one of those things that is not suppose to happen but it did so any ideas do I get an auto electrician or what try a new battery just think it is strange if the battery was totally dead would the lights go dim when trying to start could it be a fuse please any ideas would be great hope this makes sense just got it off the tow truck not happy.
  8. Hi guys well first topic for a newbie. Anyway I have owned bf xr6 since january had premo sound already installed I actually thought the sound wasnt to bad compared to the commodores I have owned in the past (sigh). I was on a very limited budget so I replaced the front with new 5 x 7 I didnt want to stuff around with spacers and I was surprised that there are still a few brands coming out with this size speaker I decided to go with kenwood. For the rear I bought a hi lo convertor and amp and ran 6 x 9s and the sub off it. Installing the 6 x 9s only took about 2 hours to do I just bought some 10 buck spacers with a bit of swearing drilling and maneuvering I got the bastards in and parcel shelf fitted back snugly with the original grills placed back in. The sub is a 12 inch kenwood also about 800 watts and fitted snug in a box behind the rear seats the stock one use to pop and crackle all the time and just ruined listening to a good cd. In the shed I found some old 6 x 9 speaker boxes so I dragged them out an plugged them up and placed them behind the drivers and passenger seat to see what it is like and sounded really good wired off the rear speakers. Anyway to sum it all up the sound was so much and I mean way better than the factory ones the sound had so much more depth and clarity and I could get it way louder than factory. Eventually I am going to upgrade the head deck with an aftermarket hu to get more power and hook up to the dvd screen. So anyone thinking of upgrading the speakers as a short term sound fix go ahead and do it its worth it, all up I think it cost me 350 bucks I got alot of the stuff on sale so it was much cheaper. It aint the sound of a perfect sound system but I am happy with it and the sub cranks even had to add bottom screws on the number plate as it vibrated. After doing this I realize that the premo sound system is pretty average ford could of made it a lot more better as an extra
