Cheers ah yes
Rods = spool pro drag I beams - iirc
Pistons = mahle powerpak 0.003" over, with coating
Head gasket - no idea yet, have an OEM MLS gasket - as I'm welding up the head and using 14.3mm head studs, the factory gasket should be ok
Turbo = precision pt6870 replacing the t51
Headwork = whatever is required to support the atomic battlemaster cams
Running a motec m800 ecu
it looks cool, sounds cool, has that oldschool appeal.
but new turbos are so much better in efficiency. the new ones cost a bit more, but that amount seems like nothing in the scheme of things when you are chasing more power
- on the back account gains
+ on the internet cred points and fanfare
+ on cool parts
havent got them installed yet, bottom end is still getting built etc.
the engine is a whole new setup, so I wont have anything to compare it too
old: stock BA F6 engine with T51 turbo, 511rwkw
new: build FG engine with PT6870 turbo, cams etc .... who knows
I chose to go cams, because I could, and I wanted something utterly stupid and plain silly.
cost for parts went up bigtime, even with a big discount, not including labour for machining / headwork, nor extra tuning time to cater for cams.
changed plugs (to copper 7s I had from the capri),
tested coilpacks (all around 0.8ohm primary coil and 5.4k ohm secondary) -- is that ok?,
and cleaned up the engine harness lay within the intake manifold area.
Couldn't quote so screenshot.
The prices are similar to over east. Not really a mining boom thing. Just the cost of playing with modified cars.
The workshops pay a lot of money for specialised equipment and mechanics. How else do they pay their overheads let alone make profit ?
They aren't learning new skills. They know how to get a car over the pits. They just didn't want to do your car. Straight out.
that was to john ^^^
phil, the tuning shops know what is needed to get over the pits and emissions tests ... I'd say they just didnt to do it.
hate to say it but they just couldnt be f*cked doing it.
there is a wealth of info on here, and plenty of people who have modified cars for a long time and know what to do.
but hey, in the end it got done and a nice little story to go with it
and you would still cop a yellow, as the police officer just needs to "believe there is something unroadworthy on the vehicle".
permits don't exclude you from yellow stickers, the hassle of having to confirm the car is A1 for pits, $100 inspection fee (approx figure) and half a morning for the inspection.
that is good news phil... but regarding the stock cat, I'm pretty certain people (here) were mentioning putting the stock cat convertor to pass emissions ... could of saved some time and effort by listening to people here.
did you use a BA dump or BF dump in the end? the BA has 1 o2 sensor, the BF has 2 of them... easy way to check the "age" of them
2 sets of king crank bearings (for Ovaboost to make 360 degree thrust bearing) & a set of King mains bearings = ouch on wallet
When did they get so pricey?
Trying kings race series bearings.
Bit more than ACL etc but will be worth it
LOL WHAT... an internal gate with screamer has been around for years and years .... china ones being prone to leaking and such... usually seen on SR20's and sound ass.
only thing older than the internal gate screamer setup, is arronm
