Yeah, I'm after acceleration like that I've got a twin-turbo 6-sp Supra right now and I wanted something that fast that could offer all the practicality of a sedan - was originally looking at a 2.8L Turbo Saab Aero Sport but decided against it as it's FWD and even with a chip tune you're looking at 350 hp (@ flywheel) in a 1600kg car - about a 14.0 sec quarter mile, not that impressive. Then I came across the G6E Turbo. Actually, I knew about the car since it was released - it just didn't cross my mind to look at them Then in a recent MOTOR mag, Herrod brought theirs along in a tuner challenge with 286rwkw and it did a 4.3 sec 0-100km/h and 12.3 sec quarter mile. Bloody impressive. That changed my mind then and there My Supra has done a best of a 13.5 quarter mile by the previous owner but that was a particularly crappy launch. At a guess I'd say it's capable of a mid to high 12 sec time. The torque on it is amazing, again an estimate, but I'd say 650Nm @ flywheel wouldn't be out of the question. It *really* pins you to the seat for the first 3 gears (it's been weighed at 1500kg dead), wheelspin in the first 3 gears and that's with 295 tyres The main reason why I've been reluctant to sell it is because I'd be worried I'd get "annoyed" with a car that was slower... but it looks like the G6ET is capable of even *faster* times (and a mid-12 capable car is probably more than enough on the screet, as you would know ), so now all I have to do is wait for them to come down... BTW, I was going to start a new thread for this but may as well ask here. Anyone willing to gimme a ride in their G6ET, preferably with the 19's so I can see how it rides? Would be willing to trade in a 6-pack or some spirits, cash, whatever people want Just don't want to have to deal with dealers ATM and wouldn't mind getting to know some of you guys. I'm near Penrith.

Yeah, those sorts of mods are a little more than what I want Still, nice power though! Have you gone to the drags with that yet? I would probably go an intercooler if I found a good one for cheap enough, but the exhaust I'm a bit wary about just because of the noise (well, the expense too I suppose!). I want something quiet for once! You think your gearchanges are clunky because the gearbox is wearing out quickly?
-
That sux that they can just rip you off like that!! But that car has gotta be one of the best for cruising long distances. Do you get under 9.0L/100km on the highway? Do you use 95 or 98 RON fuel?
-
Yeah, sometimes I think these Wheels/MOTOR guys are a little picky. I suppose they have to be - that's their job! LOL, I'm getting the slight feeling that perhaps the majority of owners of the G6ET *aren't* grandpas... I reckon they're all 28-30 yo's!
-
Yeah, I was afraid of this... but I think the extra boot space has swayed me towards a space saver spare anyway. Maybe I'll just leave it up to fate to decide whether I get one or not? Also, I have read in a couple of magazines that the 19" make the ride a little harsher than the 18" stockers. Has anyone driven both? Care to elaborate? Is it as bad as they make out? Do the 19" also improve handling/grip or is it simple a harsher ride?

Shouldn't all you guys be at work? I bet you're all retired and sit on the forums all day...* :banghead: *(I have an excuse... I'm in IT so get to "bludge" all day on the net )
-
LOL, at least you're not driving a bloody Avalon or Camry!! 28 is a bad age - you get called "old fart" from all your younger brother's and sister's friends, and you get "youung whipper snapper" from all you blokes!!
-
Yeah, I've considered that but have decided that it doesn't have enough gear for me to play with
-
Yes, it most certainly does! Our neighbour over the road is probably 75 now and he gets a new car about every 12-18 months... the number of "grandpa" cars he's had is unbelievable! He did have an Aurion (that only lasted 6 months!) actually... but the funny thing is, he's got a VW Golf diesel now and he reckons it's fast Little does he know... And yeah, the engine has got a LOT to do with why I'm looking at a G6ET. I'm addicted to turbos, and it's a pretty big engine anyway - so put the two together = very fast car Oh, I'll be buying a 160GB iPod classic just for this car - which will give me a comparatively unlimited amount of musical options compared to now, which is basically a single disc CD player that can't read mp3's - so I have about 20 CD's in each car all over the place... The Bluetooth phone integration will be great also, as will the satnav. Just heard that they're considering making it illegal to use a satnav application on a phone as opposed to a dedicated satnav unit - wtf? Why!? So if they do, I've got integrated satnav to save me there It's got it all! Oh yeah, that's the very definition of a "grandpa" car - but I don't care! Might just repaint the chrome grille black but other than that, I like it how it is!
-
Haha, I think you're getting the G6ET mixed up with the Avalon... or Aurion
-
Haha, another 28 yo! Who said this car was meant for old farts? It's actually my brother's guitar amp that will be going in there, only a 2 x 12" so it'll be a snap compared to yours! And there will definitely be a blanket under it... actually it'll probably fit in the boot! Assuming I don't get the fullsize spare...
-
Haha, has this got something to do with the hmmm... how should I put it nicely.... Ford's targeted age group of this car? I'm 28... simply after something relatively cheap (too expensive brand new!), comfortable, practical, and most importantly... FAST (at least in a straight line)!! Coming from a Supra and a Skyline, the Supra being decently modified (260rwkw) so it's kinda hard to take a step "backwards" into something slower... but that Herrod G6ET in the latest MOTOR mag running a 4.3 sec to 100km/h and a 12.3 sec quarter mile got me thinking hard! Was originally looking at a 2006 Saab 9-3 Aero Sport (2.8L turbo V6) with an ECU reflash but it's FWD and not *that* quick - I'd say a 14.0 sec quarter with the ECU flash. For anyone who's seen a Supra's hatch, it's almost useless - as are the back seats. The clutch in mine is a twin-plate which is like an on/off switch and rattles like hell. It's also my first manual so learning on that was a "fun" experience (3 months before I could take it in traffic)... and the Skyline being an auto is great for an everyday car but it's still a coupe. I need to be able to put long things in the boot (like an 88-note musical keyboard), plus guitar amps, cases, and the odd person or two in the back... So the G6ET seems like the perfect thing for the job!
-
LOL, I only read the manuals for the fun of it, it's just one of those things I doubt I'll actually *need* it to work out anything, perhaps other than the Bluetooth as you said. Kids? A little early for that... But black still looks cool!
-
Hmm OK, something to think about then Also was thinking about whether to get beige or black leather... what's everyone's opinions there? I'm thinking black simply because it's easier to keep clean and kind of looks more "sporty", but I think the beige looks more luxurious, if you know what I mean? Also has anyone got the satnav? Is it easy to use? How's the traffic functionality? That was another option I definitely wanted!

Well on the Ford website here it says that it's a "matching spare wheel" and that the "spare wheel matches road wheels". I dunno where I got the $250 from though I'm pretty sure it's correct though? So hmm... if it does chop a fair bit of boot space off, it may not be worth it. Do you know exactly how much? I have seen a couple of different boot floors in pics - one with a raised section and with an indented section so I'm presuming it's whether or not they've opted for a fullsize spare. So is the space saver spare limited to 80km/h though?
