  1. Don't know if he shopped around at all, he did mention something about Mike's reputation I think? For me that was his first mistake, especially with machinery like a Z. His second was not cutting his losses and taking the car back after hearing one BS excuse after the next. Not my kind of car but if I was getting work done on my T or the like, there's no way in hell I would intrust it to a guy that had some past issues and I certainly wouldn't say "I'll give him a go". Do feel for him but ultimately the ownership and responsibility falls back on him. There's alot of dodgies out there unfortunately he was stung by a first class hack. Oh well lesson to be learn't I guess
  2. LOL in terms of wheel choice, keeping the stock rims that came with the car and having another set that could be swaped over to take the sleeper look away, although deep pockets would be needed to accomodate the ride height etc. Definately doable but my pockets arent that deep !! :banghead: It is a weapon lol I have never been thrust back into my seat as much as I was when I was in it. It's not so much about adding more power, the couple other mods I want to do (quad system, shocks/springs and a couple other engine tweaks ) will do that and prob take it just over 400rwk anyway but it's about having the faith in whats under the bonnet and under the car itself isnt just "standard". Will get pics up of the car and the engine bay as soon as I can
  3. LOL I've seen that one before gave me quite a chukle !...there's a similar one that I have seen only it was on the back of a biker's jacket that said " If you're reading this it means the bitch fell off "
  4. LOL yeah !! I think he was more pissed the cop thought the car was too low, and he had pointed out about the tires, so he kept thinking about that instead of how lucky he was to be dropped from 145 to 124. He regrets it now obviously and we stir the crap out of him every chance we get and he tells us to get ed which makes us harder. It's one of those stories that always comes out at a bbq or some form of gathering.
  5. When I was a 'P' plater I did a DDC (defensive driving course) through the John Bowe school of driving. While it was a bit of fun getting to do the various driving activities it was one of the best things I ever did, I have had a couple of very close calls with braking emergencies, and swerving both at speed and in normal local traffic, and I still use the techniques taught back then. One of the first things I have done before getting my T is look into the high speed course's, that teach you how to handle all the many variables that come with driving at speed (which usually cant be done until you have done a regualr defensive driving course) I consider myself a pretty good driver, like alot of people have done my share of stupid things but am not oblivious to the power these machines have and the lack of respect that some drivers show them. I'm wondering when the law's may change (if ever at all) and they'll make DDC's mandatory (offset with a % discount on insurance perhaps?) and even more so for younger drivers such as 'P' platers who purchase high performance cars. I don't want to throw a blanket over all 'P' plate drivers obviously as not all of them are as reckless and moronic as the one featured above but it's a matter of basic math and common sense - a young driver with less than 12-18 months driving experience combined with a T or any other high performing car = a much much higher chance of becomming yet another statistic.
  6. I guess for me especially it put things in perspective, I work in retail as a manager and have to deal with a hell of alot of things across the day and quite a few that are just petty little things, like everyone has really, but when he ended one of the convo's by telling us that at one accident site where a truck ran over a motor bike rider and the riders head was severed and eyes popped out and he had to scoop the eyes up and then put the head in a plastic bag, I was given a pretty detailed picture of the things they see that you just dont think of when they tap on the window and ask why you were doing 20 over chirping up the road.........
  7. Ok so we've all been in the position where you're driving down the road and then you look up in your mirror and see those blue and red flashing lights. I have 2 parts to this story that will hopfelly help someone the next time they get pulled over. First one a mate of mine was pulled over doing 145 in a 100, should have lost his license straight off, but the officer was pretty good about it knocked it down to 124 so it wasnt a loss of license, also had pointed out to him that 2 of his tires weren't in the best condition and commented that his ride height looked a bit low but again let it slide and asked him to get them fixed, which you will think well that's pretty lucky and good of the cop. Very true however my mate being the way he is and not realising when he's been given a break chose to think about it more while the cop was about to write up the ticket. The cop comes back and my mate decided he would challenge give attitde and have a dig, which resulted in the cop not only pinging him for doing 145 but also being done for all the other things aswell, end result mate has lost his lisence for a year and has over $1000 in fines, plus the cost of getting the other things fixed. The second part to this is a friend of the family who is a cop who like any other cop out there get's quized about various things like what happened to my mate and he said generally you'll find that if we walk up to a driver and they give you attitude or they're in your face then chances of them getting out of the ticket is pretty slim. He made a pretty good point by saying you get pulled up for going over the limit or have a busted tail light or whatever, and we complain and bitch and moan and say it's crap, but you dont know that earlier that day or the day before they attended an accident where a couple of people had died and were at the scene all day with the bodies and dealing with the families of the victims etc. Now obviously it's fine to say motorists dont think about the day or week that a cop has had and then not to say the same thing about us. Everyone has bad days/weeks etc all im saying is and it's in the subject heading..."IT PAYS TO BE NICE" remember they're just doing their jobs and while it sucks there are some that do look for small petty things, most of the traffic cops are not like that. Showing some respect to them up front and just being a decent human being about it may be the thing that has the cop say " I'm not going to give you a ticket this time " cos remember that they don't have to be that nice about it. Anyway like I said I hope that having a couple real experiences from both sides helps at least 1 person to think before they speak next time they get pulled over next.
  8. First car was a 1979 HZ Expensive Daewoo Pannel Van had a 202 with extractors, made it sound like a 308 and it was red so went faster. Second car was a 1986 Fairmont sedan dual fuel first car I had that was on gas and when I filled up for the first time gas was 11 cents a litre. Was a really nice car to drive very economical until it got stolen. Third car was 1984 XE Fairmont GHIA dual fuel again had a 351 Cleveland nice note 2 tone blue over gun metal grey looked really nice not economical at all though Fourth car which I still have is 1998 AU Futura galaxy blue pretty well stock, only added 17" rims, CD player Alarm and tinted the windows. Very reliable never had any major issues whatsoever. Fifth car im about to get is 2004 BA XR6 Turbo, has had some work done at nizpro - 600HP 14psi stage 3 ready and alot of other parts im still learning about.
  9. pump
  10. Anything to do with an Insurance company I'd be telling them everything, if you spend big $ on mods and then you roll it a week later and right it off or it gets stolen you will only be insured for what is listed on your premium e.g if you have a stock BF 11 turbo and that's what is on the premium then that's what you will be covered for. Anything extra will not be covered you may as well throw your cash away and buy a commodore !! If you list it then at least you know as mentioned above it's worth doing right the first time. Drivers in general under 30 and more so under 25 get crucified pretty hard as it is, so being a 21 yr old having a turbo and not disclosing everything will only make things harder after the fact and then it's all too late. that's partly how they make their money. I had my car stolen from my house about 9 years ago and was a rating 2 and and even though I had alarm and kill switch and it was locked blah blah and wasnt my fault I was still penalised down to rating 4 just because a claim had been made.
  11. Hopefully have my car by mid November so I'd be up for any seeing as it would be my first one. I'll keep an eye out for the date and location and I'll be there with bells on and 600hp
  12. 18's...I'm prepared tospend the $$ just wanted to get an idea if there was a Tyre that people recommend cos it's just that good wet/dry even though they may be heavy on the wallet. I've checked web site's etc and read about how this one is better than this one and the silica in one is this or that and the multi directional pattern is the latest blah blah. Like you said everyone is going to have a different opinion and it comes down to the way you drive etc but I guess as an example I want to feel confident more so on the wet that when I take off from a set of lights the wheels aren't just going to spin or if I go around a corner the back end doesn't wanna feel like sliding out. Not that I'm wanting to make the streets of Melb into my own personal race track but when you have 600hp under the bonnet it's nice to know you hve rubber to compliment it.
  13. I was going for Courtney from the get go just love the way he drives and commits himself. Likewise more happy it was a Ford Win. I did love the way the crowd booed Murph on the podium
  14. Go Lowndsie !!.....well done first to win 3 in a row in 20 years massive effort, pitty Murphy didnt run out of petrol to see Ford 1-2-3 haha
  15. With so many to choose from and so much money put into advertising and marketing of different tyre manufactures is there a tyre out there that is hands down the best value for money for these quick cars. Or is there one out there that may be a bit pricy buy for what you get out of it is well worth it? Do you have any recommendations / advice or examples of a good / bad tyre choice? Cheers Brad
  16. Getting a quote on Insurance was one of the first things I wanted to do in researching all things relating to buying my car. I've been with RACV since I was 18 now 30 and the quote I got from them was over $1200 full comp blah blah then rang a couple other places one being Wesfarmers as I work for a company of there's and they offer good rates etc. the quote from them was $930. Then rang AAMI and was quoted $870 with the same features/benefits etc as what RACV were offering. Asked RACV if they'd at least match it so I didnt have to stuff around with new applications etc but no dice !!
  17. Thanks mate, yeah it is. I must admit too as much as I love the sleeper look, checking out some of the pics of member cars on here makes you double think what look to go for, I may end up trying best of both worlds

Not looking for places you have to drive pretty much non stop and then turn around. Interested in being able to stop along the way to check out the sites etc. Any suggestions appreciated. Cheers
