  1. cheers for the quick response straughsberry, did alot of humming and harin' and I think im going to just beef up the 4 speed, im not going to be pushing anymore than 350rwkw in the future so its proablly just over kill anyway but would like the confidence in a strong box but hey..have been giving it a bit of a punishment this week in an attempt to see if it will blow up so far it`s still feels good..pulls second gear skids no brake no prob..if weather permits tomorrow ill take it to test and tune and flog it some more, im betting that's were it will die.. in front of everyone lol.. any punters on how long my box will last???
  2. no, lol this is the second time someone has mentioned this guy, first time on another forum.. lol.. whats the go with this dude????
  3. hey FPV_Steve.. if ya dont mind me asking how much did bob grant quote you and more importantly how much was gilroys??what did you get done there just a rebuild or a bit a beefing up aswell??cheers straughsberry, any idea how much a c9 conversion would cost if I did this myself.. keen to go with another box instead of the 4 speed but if the cost of this exercise is just too much well I might have to keep the 4 speed..oh and no problem with the revs at 100kmh being around 3 grand, my VK (I know its got a Expensive Daewoo badge lol) sits at about 3200 at 100.. Cheers again for ya input guys!!
  4. bit scared off by the price of the conversion to a c9 or a powerglide ..10 grand?? is this correct?? what would parts alone cost to do this not including any labour cost's?? anyone done this themselves, or could tell me abit about the engineering behind doing this surely the c9 cant just bolt up onto the xr donk custom tailshafts..etc etc???.. now the 4 speed u guys keep saying make sure it gets re-built tough right so whos the guy to see in the brissy area???? cheers again..
  5. 10k DAMN.. well guess its the beef the max outta the 4 speed option, at the end of the day its just really a fast daily driver... got a project drag car atm id much rather pump 10K into.. so whos the best bloke to go see about rebuilding the auto in the brisbane area ive heard good things about bob grant automatics.. anyone know who else has played with these 4 speed autos before.. cheers
  6. Shout out to - " PHANTOM PERFORMANCE " for organizing and installing my new injectors and fuel pump and finally a decent tune, one that doesnt make funny detonating sounds(wont mention previous tuner).. Nick
  7. Thanks for the quick feedback guys.. well ive done more reading on the 4 speeds and it seems they can only handle so much power(350-400rwkws) for a limited amount of time before you have to rebuild it again regardless on what hardware it has or how its tuned if ya drive em hard enough??..better lay off the skids then ha ha.. Im starting to think about running a different box when this one fails as I want a gearbox that can handle a "raping".. .. how streetable is a C9 3 speed, how much am I looking at for this kinda conversion, or am I better off bombing the 4 speed and hoping for the best??
  8. Hi all, wondering if anyone has a rough idea of how much abuse the 4 speed auto can handle..??? im running close to 300 rwkw and I havent had any problems yet for about 6-8 months now and it does get driven hard a fair bit, drags-skids etc etc... I have heard of problems from other members on other forums with gearbox problems straight after getting mods, im just curious to see how long you guys have been getting round with your 4speed autos with a reasonable amount of power before they decided to hit the deck or are they still going strong...im paranoid now I have red alot of posts on this forum where the auto has failed @ around 300rwkw so I guess its just a matter of time..???flat out shifts into 2nd dont feel as hard as they use too but the box still drives well and puts the power to the ground...any info is greatly appreciated... Also anyone with good results from a good automatic rebuilder in the brisbane area..think ill be down this track soon.. Thanks
