Clay Eraser Disc - Anyone Used One?
God666 replied to God666's topic in Interior & Exterior Workshop
Guys, I think I will go ahead and give this a go, will source through a box shipper in the US. I am going to try the Fine compound disc, not sure that I will bother with their lube as there are plenty of good lubes here that I am sure will do the job. If anyone wants to join in, send me a PM and I can add it to the order. Please ensure you specify what you are after ie: Medium - $39.99 USDFine - $39.99 USDSuper Fine - $39.99 USDInterface pad and holder $9.99 USD (u need this to go between your DA polisher velcro pad and the clay eraser disc)They also have a clay eraser mitt for $39.99 USD however, as they show on the youtube vid, you can use the disc with their hand strap as a hand held device but I am sure the mitt would be much easier to use. I note they also have pretty good prices on clay bars (several different grades). All the prices are USD and I suggest the best way to do this is if I pay for it and simply work out the cost attribution based upon the exchange rate etc we get on the day. Based upon current exchange rates with shipping and Australian postage, a disc and interface pad should cost us about $70-80 AUD. Cheers, Gary -

PTR_NITRO_FG are you talking about using a clay bar or a different sort of bar? -

Clay eraser disc is at http://www.chemicalguys.com/Clay_Eraser_Disc_Blue_Fine_6_inch_p/cly_512.htm Backing pad http://www.chemicalguys.com/Clay_Eraser_Disc_Interface_Pad_Holder_6_inch_p/cly_530.htm Autogeek have a better consolidated view of all the products http://www.autogeek.net/chemical-guys-clay-disc-fine1.html There is a Youtube vid that shows you how it works however, my IT dept fun police block Youtube so I can't pull that up now. A quick search on Clay Eraser Disc in Youtube will bring it up. -
Guys, Has anyone had any experience with the Clay Eraser Disc on their cars? This is a disc that fits to your DA polisher and works to replace a hand held clay bar. From what I can gather, the disc is meant to be a synthetic clay material that removes the crap as would any clay bar, but much faster. It seems to have voids in the disc that trap the material being removed which is washed away by the lube you spray on the surface. They claim that it will do up to 50 vehicles before having to be retired. The Australian agent for ChemicalGuys does not stock it and the US manufacturer/distributor does not ship to Aust so the only options seems to be to use a package forwarding facility in the US. Will probably give that a go however, was keen to know if anyone has used the products? The clay discs come in three different grades which I presume is meant to deal with how bad your surface is and a backing pad. Disc are about $40 USD and backing pad about $10 USD. If these things are any good, maybe a group buy would be sensible. Cheers, Gary

I spent an awful lot of time changing and adjusting suspension setup before I threw a gopro under my car and found that what was originally thought to be axle tramp, is as suggested above, the very soft diff bushes allowing the diff to nose up under high torque, lose traction, drop back down and repeat etc. This caused that horrendous thump thump thump. Solution, change the three x diff bushes out with something more robust. If you are running stock power/torque, you can probably get away with the Superpro Comfort bushes. I tried those and failed (750nm torque) and eventually finished with the Superpro competition bushes which does give you a bit more NVH however, it controlled the diff nosing up.

These guys appear to have an average list price that they get from the wreckers. He simply looked up his book and said $800 which I thought was pretty good. I was expecting about $2K. Sorry Lennox, missed your note earlier. I normally drive with DSC off as it has enough torque to be a nice drift car however, given it was wet, I had left DSC on. I don't think DSC was going to help me in that situation anyway.

They didn't give me a very good market value in my opinion but I bought the wreck from them for $800. That was pretty good.

All fine, very minor shunt as the car dragged along the armco, it was very soft from a passenger perspective. No airbag deployment. Decided to buy a complete car so this one will be turned into lots of parts over the next month if I can find the time to get my act together. Will probably drop a lot of the parts into the classifieds or ebay. Apart from the obvious, the car has: Custom Ammon leather (dark grey) 6 Speed manual Ace heavy duty clutch and billet flywheel 60lb injectors GFB Stealth electronically controlled BOV 400 cell Cat Bigmouth Growler CAI Intercooler (didn't survive) some of the pipework did. Koni adjustable shocks Heavy duty springs all round, (not lowered) Towbar Reversing camera and sensors Bits that didn't survive The front!!! The bootlid The tail lights All other panels are fine.

It is time for a new car it seem! I managed to take the front off my car by smearing it along some Armco railing as I was sliding down the road sideways at 70kph. Swerved to avoid a car that pulled into my lane, wet roads and within a microsecond, I was no longer pointing in the intended direction. The car is a statutory write off as the chassis rails have been bent and in the eyes of the insurance company, is not economic to repair so I have bought the wreck from them. Damn shame as it was a fantastic car, running 310rwkw, 106K on the clock and never missed a beat. It has not even been back to Ford for warranty work or repair (if there is such a thing as warranty on a modded car), nothing ever went wrong apart from diff bushes however, that was more of a excessive torque issue. If I can get another car as good as this one, I will be happy. The pic is how it finished up with the exception of the HDI cooler which was shredded and hanging off by one bolt. Still driveable with the exception of having somewhat of a leaky radiator! Now it is a case of working out what to do with the wreck. it is 90% good so I suspect I will tear it down and either keep the modded parts for the next car or whether I go for something totally different. Have been thinking about a RS4 if I can get the budget to extend that far! Very sad day.......
