  1. Mitch, Are we are getting the full story here? Lachlan probably knows more about the electronics of these cars better than anyone in the country, as he developed the XEDE piggyback computer that some of us were running in our cars 8 years ago. I know Lachlan personally, he has tuned my car, and I know he would want to do the best job he can. He has also owned a Ford turbo, and was the first in the country to run a T56 in any BA in the country. Brian
  2. Total overkill, will probably reduce torque, give you no extra power, and add extra unnecessary weight. Brian
  3. Just because you read a post somewhere where a guy says someone is a scammer doesn’t mean he is one. I found one post with such an accusation, but a followup post indicated that the goods were received. If I noticed a number of posts stating the same thing then I would be concerned. I did a quick lookup. 4. Yes, it is the new model, but the gearbox is the same as the old. Power is up around 10% on previous model, front suspension changed, bigger brakes, and new launch control. My new GTR has already been tuned by Tunehouse, titanium exhaust and tune with just 1lb more boost, peak power & torque up 11%, torque up 25% at 2500rpm, and far better to drive. An amazing car. Brian
  5. Don't think this top gear video has been posted here yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=CuFkzSQSmik Best car I've ever owned. Very quick stock. Just does it so easy. Brian
  6. In the U.S they pay $90k, new here is $180k on the road. .... and they complain over there about the price. Brian
  7. The Caltex E-Flex got me out of trouble.Car runs fine. Just run low boost map. Always pays to keep a few spare drums at home. However, have a look at the last post in this thread, from someone who has tested both fuels. http://www.ipraforum....php?f=3&t=6869 "Caltex Bio E-Flex E85 Vs United E85 United Petroleum has long been selling their blend of E85 in a few service stations in Australia for a while now. Caltex has released Bio E-Flex E85 and has done a deal with Expensive Daewoo which will see roll out of their E85 fuels across Australia. United does not have a winter/summer mix. It is always E85 (85% ethanol, 15% 91 RON unleaded). Caltex bio-eflex do however. During colder months from march to november, Caltex state their bio-eflex can range from 70 to 85% ethanol. The test was conducted using the quickfuels e85 test tube test kit. The test involves filling a test tube with a certain amount of water, followed by a certain amount of your E85. Once settled, the petrol precipitates out of the mixture, leaving you with your % of ethanol. To our surprise (and I had to conduct the test 4 times to make sure of this), the United E85 would not precipitate to anymore than 5%, meaning, according to the test, the united batch I had was closer to 95% ethanol (as apposed to the 85% it is meant to be). At first I thought the test may be a gimmick and not worth even doing. I then however tested the caltex e-flex. Now Caltex state the winter mix period runs up to the middle of November, so I expected there to be somewhere in the low 70s amount of ethanol in this fuel. This is the result. Baiscally 72% ethanol, confirming what Caltex basically state bio-eflex contains during their winter mix period. So what does this mean? Well, my current tune, if this is correct, is based on an ethanol mixture of 95%! Now with the new petrol only containing 72% ethanol, it means I will probably need to take a little bit of fuel out of the tune (as it was already very fat and safe on the united e85). The united fuel has that characteristic sweet E85 smell, whereas the Caltex bio-eflex at 72% ethanol has an overpowering unleaded petrol stink to it. Whats more, the Caltex is $1.09 a litre. I can only assume this is because it currently has 28% unleaded in it, and it will be under $1.00 a litre (like the united E85) when the summer 85% mixture is in the bowser. 8. An update for anyone filling up with E85 at Rozelle. 127 Victoria Road (02) 9555 7619 Went there today to fill up my STi on an empy tank .... they have no E85. They said maybe tomorrow. I'd advise anyone going there in the next few days to ring first. I'm going to see if I can make it to the Caltex on Lyons road to get 5-10 litres to get by with. Brian
  9. What I really want is boost control by gear. This for me is the single most obvious function missing for proper performance. Having to run a detuned car because of this lack of functionality is such a waste. Brian
  10. Evo or wrx would be better. Weight of the Ford is a real killer for durability. My fords will smash my STis in a straight line, plus my sons old evo, but around the track is different. Smaller cars are a lot more fun, and awd grip makes a huge difference. Cheaper evo with e85 is a good easy option, and they are proven on the track. Brian
  11. spoolxr6 the Nizpro exhaust I looked at was poor quality. I looked at the welds on the inside of the exhaust.

  12. For me at home today with very fast Optus broadband it is very good. But at work in Sydney city when I use an Optus wireless or tether through my iphone it is very average. At my apartment with adsl2 it various from average to very slow.... but so does every other site... just too far from the Concord exchange. Brian
  13. It should be much cheaper ... lower quality Chinese made. Just compare the welding on the different systems and you'll note the difference. If you're happy with it that's ok. Brian
  14. I think it's too big for your needs. I'm also with rip_hsv. I have a T04z sized custom turbo on my BF F6 with ZF, and it's a pretty good compromise. Even with the standard turbo you can run 10.8 to 11.2 on MT's, at around 130mph. A T04z size will let you run a bit better. Brian
  15. I've had my xr6 turbo cars tuned in 3 states over the past 8 years, as well as many other turbo cars tuned. Tunehouse easily has the best dyno facility I've come across, and invested a lot of money. Jim does spend a lot of time with his cars. Having said that all our sponsors have quite a bit of xr6 turbo tuning experience, and given that experience should be able to meet your needs. Brian
  16. I doubt the mag testers ever reveal their 60' times. If they don't do proper launch it's more likely to be a 2.2 second launch, and 13 second pass. I prefer to just focus on the trap speed to get a better idea of power. Guys like Jim with a lot of passes behind him, and driving the car all the time, know how to launch the car to get an excellent time. Brian
  17. Good run Jim in the trusty ZF. Not far off an 11. Brian
  18. I think it's obvious and not confusing at all. You remove full turbo exhaust from your car; exhaust manifold, turbo, cat and rest of exhaust. You then fit a full brand new Pacemaker sports exhaust, which includes extractors. Fits your turbo car without a problem, and you no longer need a turbo. Brian
  19. To the idiot in the BF F6 DRE2KL de-spoilered heading west on James Ruse drive today, accelerating to at least 120kph in the exit lane at North Parramatta, then cutting back into the main 2 lanes at the last fraction of a second, in order to get around 4 cars, you were extremely lucky not to have a major accident. Some other guy in the middle lane decided at the last second decided he wanted to cut across 2 lanes to the exit lane. It was so close to being very ugly. Brian
  20. Seems a low results these days. How about you display the power and boost dyno charts so we can have more information to review. Brian

IMO if a bigger turbo yes, but I doubt with just a bigger compressor cover. Years ago some people on this forum (started with APS) would quote maximum boost as the boost applicable at the point at which maximum power was made, rather than the maximum boost used in the run. (this is buried in our archives somewhere). Some tuners apply maximum boost in the midrange, then taper it off before the point of maximum power. They used the former definition, imo, to understate boost used. So as there are 2 ways of interpreting maximum boost, I always like to see a graph. To me maximum boost is maximum boost. Brian
  22. Don't even try it. Best to get a 9.5" wide rim to replace the factory 8' rim. Do search to find recommended rim widths for given tyre widths. Brian
  23. Mark that vindicates my argument that transmission type is the major factor in ET, rather than model. I would rather have FG times in under ZF trans category, as they should be similar. I'm not inclined to have a separate category for powerglide, but obviously one of the main factors for choosing it is lower time, and obviously for the small group of serious guys. Brian
  24. I did run a 11.9 on street tyres on my first outing. I also ran 138mph at full weight, which I think is the highest mph on street tyres (not MTs). Ask Spiko what it's like trying to run big power in a manual on street tyres... just heaps of wheel spin, and not what I'd call safe (some might say stupid!). Car was never meant to be, nor set up as a drag car; just did it for fun and to show I did actually have some power, then bought a ZF F6 as well. I think Ben in WA some years ago was the first to run an 11. He didn't have a lot of power, just plenty of practice, persistence, and a focus on getting the launch right, right rpm shift points, and quick gear changes. Very few in 11's; just be happy to pull a 12. Probably because there are so few manuals, and because they are so far behind the autos we haven't really been too concerned about a list for the manuals. If you do an 11 in the manual just let everyone know. Brian
  25. December 2003, when we had the forum xmas gathering. That was the first time that DBOSS got smashed. Pleasant memories. Brian
