I just had to replace a BA XR8 rim, and ended up getting a BSA "copy" from Quickfit for $250. the guy at quickfit reckons BSA makes fords and fpvs wheels for them, he had a bunch of other styles in there including the new FPV wheels. the wheels come with the centre cap and everything with the ford oval embossed into it but without the actual ford sticker in there, which is he says is a result of ford not wanting BSA to sell them as ford/fpv wheels. the genuine wheel from ford was around $650!

Hey guys, im trying to organise a trip to indy this year and wouldnt mind hearing on the best way to do things in terms of accomodation, track passes etc... we arent loaded so we're thinking of staying offtrack somewhere like the q1 building and getting silver or gold track passes. let me know how you did it! thanks, mark.

hey guys, the cd player has finally bit the dust in my ute (6 stacker in dash) im gonna replace it with one of those pioneer bluetooth head units, a 4 channel amp and some fancy speakers. I dont wanna sacrifice any room for a sub so im willing to spend a little extra on speakers. what should I get for the rears? are they 5 x 7 inch? and what front splits should I get? what size are they and will aftermarket tweeters fit in the factory tweeter locations? also what is the best din/tray thingy to get for the dash to fill in the hole? thanks, mark.

Hi guys, Some time ago my ute was playing up, was really hard to start and didnt like to idle sometimes. It would take 3 or 4 goes to start the car first thing in the morning! Anyway so ford fixed that, said there were some faults in the computer so reset it or whatever and cleaned the throttle body and then it ran fine for a few months. But now it is doing the exact same thing only worse, it is running rough and missing when under load. For example it revs freely and sounds good in neutral or with the clutch in, but when under load in gear, it starts to mis and wont accelerate cleanly. It gets worse the more you load it up too, for example if I short shift it into 3rd or 4th when I should be in 2nd it runs rougher again and will hardly accelerate. Also noticed that lately my clock has been losing a half hour every now and then, could this be at all related? As in some weird electrical fault in the car? The battery is in good nick... I was told to replace the leads and plugs before taking it back to ford, but I thought I would ask here first to see if it was a well known problem. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, Mark.

sorry musnt be series two then for some reason I thought that the new colours (lightning strike, harvest green) meant that they were series 2. anyway its a 2004 model. the story is most definitly true. ford say that this is the first they have heard of it and even the mechanic at our local dealership is baffled by how much oil it is using. the car actually went back in today because the 1000km is up and ford checked the oil and subsequently a new engine has been ordered and it will be here in 2 weeks! as for my father being in marketing for GMH, all I can say to that is that he is very much a ford fan, as is the rest of my family. I am by no means baggin the ford product at all, just sharing my experiences with you all, which is what this forum is for isnt it? my family knows how good the ford product is and out of the 5 BA Xr6s that my family has bought this is the only one that's had a problem! scootre I also think dad should be asking for a new car but I dont think ford would ever go for it. the rest of the car is fine, they are replacing the bits that are broken and that is good enoguh for dad. I believe that some of the early boss 290 engines in the GTs had a similar problem and ford had to replace some of those. anyway in the end its no-where as bad as holdens cock up having to replace 1000s of Gen 3 motors over the last couple of years! on that note here is a bad-luck Expensive Daewoo story to make you all feel better... this also is a true story. last year a good mate of mine sent his VX SS back to the dealership because it was using oil. they replaced the motor and a day after he got it back, the car burnt to the ground because of a wiring fault by the mechanic who fitted the new motor! The only good thing to come out of all this is that Expensive Daewoo replaced his VX with a VY SS, with $1400 change-over!

Hi guys, just thought I'd share a (true) story with you all, A week before Easter my father traded his Landcruiser wagon in on a Series 2, lightning strike XR6. He optioned it up with the 18 inch wheels and premium sound. Dad didn't bother test driving the car or even looking at any other types of cars (such as commodore), as 3 of his cousins and his brother all have BA XR6s, so he figured he was on to a sure thing. All went well for the first week, the car ran great, handled great and looked awesome! Apart from the wheels being fairly heavily scratched by the rattle gun at the ford workshop, my father was rapt in his new toy. (Ford have since agreed to replace the wheels, as my father thinks that paying $1500 extra for scratched wheels is not good value) The car was put through 800km of normal driving around town to run it in before mum and dad left for a trip down south the day after easter. After travelling a further 1500km to their destination, Dad and his mate (a mechanic by trade and currently running his own mobile mechanic business), washed the bugs off the car, checked the coolant level and then proceeded to check the engine oil. This is where the drama starts... The Dip Stick said "add". Dads mate added 3 litres of oil to the engine before the dipstick read the right level. A phone call to the nearest dealership was made to try and book the car in but they couldnt fit it in in time, so dads mate dropped all the oil and dad purchased a new bottle of oil recommended by the ford mechanic. The salesman my father bought the car off said that maybe the car had arrived from the factory with low oil and perhaps it had been missed in the pre-delivery, so now that the engine has new oil it should be right. The car traveled another 1500km home and when home dad checked the oil again. The dipstick said "add" again. This time the car went back to the dealership it was purchased at and the mechanics spent 2 days checkin valve clearances and checking for oil leaks. They topped the engine up with another 3 litres of oil. Ford has offered to monitor the engine for the next 1000km, and depending on what the oil level is at the end of the 1000km, they might have to replace the engine. 600km since then and dad has just checked the oil. Yep, the dipstick says "add". So, after 5000km, the car is up for a new engine and wheels. Sorry for such a long post, but I just thought you should all know. I advise that everyone out there should check the oil and other vital engine liquids often. The ford mechanic himself said that not even he wouldve thought to check the oil on a brand new car. My father says if he hadnt noticed it and tried to drive the 1500km home again, the engine wouldve seized.

hey guys, I dont know if yooz are interested at all but I was just browsing through this thread and noticed the posts on the first and second pages made about the GT on blocks in north queensland. I live in the same town as this guy, and I know him personally. He is about 21, and has a manual Merc Silver GT-P, with every possible option except for the Rex-3 dvd, coz u cant have the roof mounted screen AND the sunroof. It cost him over 80 grand I think, could be wrong though. The car lives in an air-conditioned shed with carpet on his parents cane-farm, however it isnt on blocks, but it only has about 2000km on it and hes had it for nearly a year!! However the only two times ive ever seen it driving around it was going absolutely flat stick! The number plates are MYGTP. Hes a very busy guy and doesnt have time to drive it, and in the cane crushing season up here the car rarely sees daylight. The father has a Phase 3 GTHO in a nother shed, however it is need of a complete restoration, and I think they are about to start on it. So yeah, just thought id post that up in case anyone was interested!!

Turbo 6 says "I honestly don't know how you guys (or girls) are complaining about "no weight over the axle and too much power...getting it to the ground" etc." then says "heh heh - I forgot to mention Scotty, I had my motocross bike and all my gear in the back as well. That has got to hurt.... " ahm you had about an extra 100 kilos over your axle....

Hey guys hope someone can help My mate has a 2001 AU XR6 Falcon ute with a premium sound system, and we want to put two 12 inch subs in. He has aquired to Clarion Subs for free and is about to purchase a decent 4 channel amp to power them, how ever we were just wondering if the standard head unit is up to the pace of this system. He wants to keep the standard head unit because it has a 6 stacker in dash. Does this head unit have RCA outputs? does anyone know? If it doesnt have RCAs can we still use it with one of those converter things? Neither of us know much about stereos, all he knows is he wants big bass in his ute! The plan is to keep all 4 original speakers powered byt he head unit and just have a massive rear install consisting of a big amp and subs. Anyone done an install on a Falcon like this before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

haha, lighten up guys. its a line from the fast and the furious movie... I got it and thought it was funny!

Hey I just read that bit about the GT with 308kw at the rear. doesnt that equate to like 400kw at the flywheel?? I must have this wrong because that means a 100kw gain just from an exhaust and chip!!
