BJC, The reason there's two different colors on the input shaft is from the case hardening process during manufacture. The outer surface (light grey ring) is made much harder which results in a stronger and wear resistant surface, with internal core that remains softer to absorb the stresses. Most oem axles and gears are heat treated by the same process.
  2. All torque wrenches require periodic re-calibration. Depending on where in its working range it's mainly set and how often its used. Clicker style wrenches are normally stored incorrectly long term and can cause the spring to settle. For those that are unfamiliar with these tools, Never wind a clicker wrench all the way out to the stop or past the maximum rating, when stored they need to be set on the lowest numerical setting. Before use if it has been stored for a while, cycle the wrench on a low setting with a bolt held in a vice to get all the working surfaces lubricated again.
  3. Norbar are one of the best on the market. You''ll also get an accredited calibration certificate so you know it's right. Most name brands have an accredited cal. but if your buying cheaper wrenches they can be out quite significantly even new. Digital wrenches are great but need to be calibrated regularly as the electronic load cell used to make the measurement can drift giving incorrect readings. In all honesty your better off spending your money on a decent mechanical clicker type wrench and getting it re-calibrated annually.
  4. I don't have the manuals, was fortunate enough to get some of the factory fg torque specs for an engine rebuild a while back. Just trying to help out, I know how hard it is to get the correct specs for fg series.
