  1. Sorry if I treated you a bit harshly kiwi......, all I wanted to do was to flag to others, that while sourcing a n/a engine for next to no $$ and bolting it into an XR6T may sound tempting, it is fraught with potential for another serious engine failure. Good luck to you, and it will be interesting to see how long it lasts. Oh yes, the main difference between n/a and 'T' engines are: Different piston (design and material) with different comp. ratio and floating gudgeon, different Con Rod, different Exhaust Valves (Inconel vs stainless) and Valve Springs. The rest of the long engine is pretty much the same, except sump has a hole for the Turbo to drain the oil into. BA and BF engines are very similar, except Cam Phasers and the aluminium head casting associated with them is different, and cams are different.
  2. I remind you of your status of 'Training Wheels' here Amongst many other highly technical modifications to the BA/BF Falcon over the past 9 years, I have built 4 or 5 of these Turbo engines now, so if you do a bit of searching, I think you will find that I have a fair idea what I am talking about.
  3. This is a VERY risky avenue, and should not be pursued. There is a VERY high risk of detonation and leg out through the side, due to compression ratio being too high. This engine has to be pinging when floored, so a matter of time really
  4. Yes the heads are the same, except for the differences you mention. Be aware though, the to replace the exhaust valves with Turbo ones, will set you back about $100 each (12 of them in the head) so you do the maths....
  5. Well good luck to you if n/a engine is used in Turbo application. The differences in piston crown and gudgeon pin will make this a short lived experience if you are not EXTREMELY careful and lucky, as compression ration is waaaaay too high for a turbo application, and self detonation and pinging can destroy your engine really easily.
  6. and def not injectors. Have you checked the valvetrain? I doubt this is it though, as it sound deeper down in the engine
  7. As 'run in oil' I used Castrol Magnatec 10W30. Currently I use Nulon 10W30 which seems to keep things happy, only issue is an oil pressure which is a bit low at idle when engine is extremely hot, but raises to normal levels before 1000 rpm.
  8. Count me out for Friday night Why exactly was it we had a poll
  9. I'll see if I can come out for this one, depending on final day/time
  10. Careful now, she may have spies out there You know the saying 'happy wife, happy life'
  11. I'll lend a hand, just say when :sungum: (oh, and not sure about the 'guru' statement though)
  12. Simple answer - NO only Exhaust Valves and Valve Springs makes the 'T' Head different from n/a Head
  13. Comp ratio is about 8.5:1, and I have not done a compression test after running engine in yet. In terms of this engine, I have no further definite plans, as I am happy with the 370rwkw, and engine and rest of car will do this reliably day in and day out. I may start having a quick look at the 'old' long motor, to see if I want to play a bit further with that one, or just sell it as is, not sure yet.
  14. Thanks Steve, a very enjoyable evening, even though I was spitting chips when the rain set in as soon as we left Midland Tafe, cleared up just as we arrived at 1st meeting point.
  15. Spike to about 20 psi, then drops to about 17. Better mid power range as well though. Simon reckons I can't do anymore with the stock turbo, as exhaust back pressure cause slight pinging if we go any higher.
  16. OK so the update is that after fitting better tyres, I today had a few runs again, and this time it was MUCH BETTER, we got 371 rwkw on last run after Simon did a few more adjustments, so I'm happy with that considering the near stock turbo side I have, just shy of 500 hp at the tyres is not bad I think . Engine is still very quiet, so very happy with that.
  17. Well we are doing some more work on the Dyno on Monday, as my new soft rear Kumho KU31's did not agree with the Dyno rollers, and basically were spinning giving inaccurate readings. What we could see was a discrepancy of up to nearly 800 rpm when comparing engine rpm and actual wheel speed on the dyno, and the tyres were getting VERY warm. We are going to try again with Simon's 'dyno tyres' so hopefully a better result. At the moment I am only running 17psi which gives me something north of 330 rwkw, but not sure exactly what at this stage...... Doesn't feel super fast yet though Engine still sounds terrific though, quiet as a mouse, runs extremely well and pulls better then any I have had before from low rpm, so somethings are going right.
  18. I don't know Cresent Motorsport, and so this is in NO WAY a reflection of the work they do, but almost any tuner can make your car a weapon, the trick is to make sure it doesn't blow up, so just make sure you do your research before doing anything. There are plenty of stories of destroyed engines due to aggressive tuning strategies and high boost, so as I said, it pays to do some research.
  19. Please include me in PM for Cruise map, I will see if I can make it for this cruise...
  20. Still running quiet as a mouse, found that oil choice is important though, and thinner is better!! Currently running 10w30 Nulon, first choice was Penrite 15w50 but this did result in very slight occasional rattle at idle
  21. Yep, I will do the same, but thought it fair raise possibility of no show.
  22. Sorry guys, 42 degrees forecast for Saturday, I'm a chicken, and pulling out (or that would be roast chicken)
  23. I'll try to make the meet in Midland
  24. If I can get away, I will try to join in the fun...
  25. Anyone see the blue XR6T in bits on the news? 1 guy killed (passenger) when car disintegrated against a tree in Gosnells. Driver apparently from Lesmurdie. Police was chasing, and rear rim looked like a taxi steel wheel, well at least on one side. Anyone known to the forum??
