  1. Looks like a stock piston. It has the small flat circle on the top which certainly the Mahle pistons I used in the past did not. May or may not be accurate Really would need to see it from the other side to tell!
  2. It's been a while, so I will dust off the old girl and let her come out in the sunshine for a change :o)
  3. Too many other activities on those dates (and most of December actually), so no go for me this time.
  4. But I am sure there are only upstanding quality citizens in that area ....................... Never safe anywhere these days!!
  5. Looks like a really nice drive. Oh well, next time!
  6. A bit short, but could be the flexplate.
  7. HD Chain and Tensioner with higher spring presure. Part of the issue with stock chain is that it is quite weak, and is likely to stretch, especially with stronger springs.
  8. Still have the Christening to attend on Sunday 22nd, so that's a no from me
  9. I have done this many times over the 10 1/2 years I have owned my BA, and have never had any issues. Worst problem is that the serpentine belt gets a bit dry, but a couple of squirts of silicone oil or tyre shine fixes that. Maybe the general use sh*te electrical connectors!
  10. Good news Phil, good thing you caught it early and stopped in time. Yes the Atomic Cr-Moly flexplate I fitted to my car was around $600 incl. ARP bolts for supply only, but it is a nice piece of kit, and more like a flywheel than a flexplate.
  11. Too much black in my opinion, but it's not my car and taste is quite subjective.......
  12. I know, but I'm faithful to my old girl, not like you having a fling with a younger model
  13. Who cares about an old BA bring the Foon lol!
  14. I think your oil is too heavy, and though this may not be the cause of your noise, I have found that you want to stay below 40 viscosity (I run a mix of 30 and 40 weight oil to achieve something around 35) I have found that 50 or 60 viscosity oil makes engine more noisy, as I think not enough oil escapes from bearing journals to adequately lubricate bottom of bores, thus causing pistons to 'slap' from side to side. My 2c worth - Good luck with getting this fixed.
  15. New front end bushes and ball joints fitted Monday, and today replaced front brake pads, as they were in serious need. Ready to go for Friday, and I may also wash and clean my car as weather looks to be nice.
  16. ZF Steel pans with drain plug!
  17. I'll probably be up for a small cruise on a Friday night. With a bit of luck I may even have my new front end bushes in by then
  18. Yep, I saw XR6T with TURBINE plates a couple of months ago on Malaga Drive heading south, weaving in and out of traffic on a Saturday, then at Reid Hwy he turned left, didn't look and nearly cleaned up a 4wd when he jumped lanes without checking as he took the Malaga Dr, Reid Hwy corner heading east. Real hero and someone who does us all proud
  19. No new fitting was able to be found. The existing fitting did have some threads which were slightly squashed due to incorrect thread compatibility but as the lead-in threads were undamaged, it was possible to get a good straight start on screwing it into the turbo, and so I was confident I could do this without causing any damage. Basically I greased the fitting liberally (to avoid galling the thread) and then carefully screwed it into the turbo housing, where there was a little resistance about 1/2 way in, but nothing too concerning, so I proceeded to tighten until I could feel the fitting bottoming out on the taper seal at the bottom, and it was all nice and tight. No major problem, and it got the car back on the road again. Word of warning to anyone else fitting an Earls inline filter with flexible oil lines on an FG model car; The hex extension fitting on the turbo must be removed, so that the flexible oil line fitting is screwed directly into the turbo housing, as the thread in the extension fitting is INCOMPATIBLE the oil line fitting. Unfortunately it is so close, that this may not be obvious to the untrained eye, and worst case if fitted incorrectly, the fitting could separate while driving, making one hell of a mess, and as it is near the exhaust, potentially cause a fire.
  20. No problem Phil, thanks for hosting the event, I must say you have en enviable setup there, and I enjoyed sampling your toys Sorry, no photos from me to share.
  21. Nothing like a set of well lubricated lobes
  22. I'll be there, and will throw a few tools in the boot, so we should have enough then!!
  23. I would be keen, only I have an invitation for a members son's christening on the 22nd, so the weekend of 21-22 September is out for me (and for that member I assume).
  24. I'll lend a hand if anyone wants to put a ZF transmission in their BA
