  1. Hi ZMAN, McInerney Ford at Morley have the grilles for $185 but for christ sake don't let them fit it. Falchoon I put the FPV badge on the grille because 2 FORD ovals on the front would look a bit ordinary and an FPV badge looks a hell of a lot better than an Advert for Herrods. But then again this car has been one of the biggest motoring dissapointments of my life and will metamorphisise into a black GT-P on Mon 20th after Ford fit a new diff on Thurs 18th. I just gotta have one of them dirty stinking big black Late model camira slappers. I have lost my faith in any long term reliability with this first series of turbos
  2. I had G/Box clunks and diff whines in an EB XR I bought in 92-3, I put up with both for about 40K, nothing ever broke. I have my T booked in for a new diff (period noise 95-100klm) next thursday. I had the G/Box thumping 3rd - 2nd downchange and put Redline ATF in it, cost $260 but fixed the problem after owning this thing for three months I have made some negative conclusions. 1. Whoever at Motor magazine decided to give these cars PCOTY copped a sling. 2. Ford bolted on a low boost turbo as an after thought and are still holding their breath. 3.With valvespring, brakeshudder, diffwhine, transmission clunks and paint quality problems becoming more evident in lots of Ts, this will be the shortest time that I have ever dumped a new car. Although mine has never directly broken I have very little confidence in the cars component ability to withstand even the factory claimed 240kW. I never thought I'd say it about a Ford but I can't wait to get rid of this car, so after the Diff replacement I think a black GT-P will look good in the driveway and let me sleep at night. So after only 7500 Klm to those who developed this car I say
  3. Hi PhilH. The Herrod distributor in NZ is Paul ?????? Ford in a place called Tamaranui, according to an ad I read they have all the Herrod bits. WARNING, perhaps because they are so disgustingly cheap (NOT), apparently Herrods can't supply fitting instructions, (a 5c photocopy is over budget), even Ford dealers are hit and miss on how to fit them. I saw one fitted by Mc Inerney Ford in WA and what a mess. You have to follow the earlier instructions on the page and go in from the front, takes about 20 mins. My car is Narooma Blue and I had the grille sprayed in black satin with a little silver metallic mixed in, then put an FPV badge over the Herrod advert stamped into the grille, looks pretty damn good too I must say.
  4. Hi Eddie, I fitted an APS stage one unichip and got 295kW at the engine, then I chopped out the centre muffler, 1st to straight pipes then 2X2.25 nine inch hotdogs, fitted a cold air modification and a K & N filter, all I did was spend lots, lose 20 kW, and made the car sound like a dog. Ended up putting a 2.5 inch mandrel bent stainless from the cat back, still can't find those kWs again though. If you do cut out your centre muffler make sure you keep it, they cost over $400 to replace. If I was going to do it all again, I'd be waiting another six months to see what APS, AVO,CHIPTORQUE, and CAPA, come up with in their final analysis, there seems to be too much confusion and experimentation for my liking,e.g rumours of weak valve springs, loose turbo housings too hot intercoolers, too small injectors, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc. Past wisdom says just like in the days of the good Ol VL Turbo, if you give these guys 18mths or so they will finally sort it all out, if you try to find performance on innuendo, experimentation, and hear-say, you may just be in for some frustrating and very expensive . The best gains I've ever had were in a VL turbo that Lachlan at Chiptorque did in about 92. But I got posted way over here to the wild west, where the fuel is crap and the drivers are slow. Oh to live in Qld again then I could just pop down to chiptorque on the Gold Coast and I'd have a very quick and drama free car. I only went for the UNICHIP because they have a dealer in WA.
  5. Perth exhaust centre will fit a twin 2.5 with stainless centre muffler from the cat back for $550, I've had nothing but expensive power loss dramas since I chopped out the factory muffler in place of nothing, then tried 2 X 9inch hotdogs, another noisy waste of money, went for the new Xr8 setup and still no improvement, $750 later, leave well enough alone I reckon if it ain't broke don't try and fix it. Something has robbed about 20kW after exhaust play and fitting cold air induction + K & N filter. Might give it away for a GT-P, I'm too old to have these sleepless nights anymore. Be very careful when you want to muck with the exhaust.
  6. I have a problem with low down power loss. I have changed the centre muffler to a stainless from an xr8 with 2x 2.5 pipes. the car has an APS stage 1, cold air induction and a K&N filter. The dyno showed boost up from 8 to 9 lbs but kW down from 298 to 275 all mixtures etc fine. Lost a lot of bottom end torque. Has anybody experienced the same thing, or have any ideas?
  7. B) Hi Geea, No offence taken I'm not really interested in arguing over a couple of 10th or 100ths of a sec, as I said I used an accelerometer, it stores the last ten times, but their not downloadable and the best 0 -100 is 4.63, the slowest is 5.02. I'll post you the device registered post if you like, so long as you send it back. Any way I had the car back on Tim Slako's dyno this morning and after going through the centre muffler chop, then back to 2 nine inch hotdogs, I'm down from an initial 298 kW at the engine to 284, I thought the airbox would help. Anyway leaving my clinic now to go and pick it up with a mandrel bent twin 2.5 from the cat, through a stainless muffler into 2.5 twins back to the twin 2.25 standard rear muffler. The dyno showed 9lb of boost and perfect mixtures, so it must be the centre muffler hotdog replacement loosing the power, Ford centre muffler $345. Perth exhaust centre, stainless 2.5 setup $550, maybe the factory got it right in the first place. P.S I'm serious about sending the accelerometer.
  8. 56 Mainline, your cold airbox idea is ingenious, brings the midrange back nicely, the spare parts boss at my dealership had a look, smiled and took down the details to pass on to other XR owners. Taking the car back to Slako's 2 morrow to re-TUNE the APS chip. This may bring back my Bullsh*t 0-100 times. B)
  9. Hey Hg Ag, I'm sure you are a nice guy. The times done in my car were measured with a "Bell accelerometer" which cost me $750, I concede they may lose a couple of 100ths of a sec for accuracy but both times the run was with half tank gas, octane booster, 18 degrees at night on the same dead flat surface. With the environment and all variables the same, the car lost time, both runs done in auto foot to the floor. If I was going to bullsh*t it would be a bigger woppa than a couple of tenths of a second. The things do 0-100 in 5.7 out of the box, or maybe my car is just quicker than yours.
  10. Bullsh*t. That car with that configuration is not cabable of 0-100 in 4.63. Hg Ag, The times were done in my car and measured with an in car G accelerator which cost me $750 so I would assume that it is reasonably accurate. Quick times done on half a tank of fuel, 18 deg at night with octane booster, Slow times done with the same environmental variables. I don't think that theres much point bullsh*tting over a couple of tenths of a second. And even if the G device is not entirely accurate, e.g. a couple of tenths out, by changing the exhaust the car still suffered using the same device.
  11. :D Hey 56mainline. I had a couple of 9inch hotdogs put into the system and cut the airbox then inserted the xr8 nozzle into the rubber coupling. Car sounds much better now and power has come back somewhat. I'm going to take it back to Slakos and have the unichip done again. Re the warranty fears some people have, my selling dealer (who shall remain nameless here) is aware of all the mods I've had done and couldn't give a toss. I'm booked in for a new diff next week, service manager knows the car makes 300 + kW and basically said good onya give me a drive, said he loved it, then mumbled some thing about Ford keeping a warranty eye on those fitting gearchargers to the new 4x4 V8 utes and doing 4 wheel burnouts. So as usual, "Going Ford Is The Going Thing". I'm going for a spin now ta ta. P.S Has anybody got any info on better valve springs?
  12. Hey 56mainline. I chopped out my centre muffler and lost midrange, waste of money waste of power, loss of peace and quiet
  13. Thanks Ian, I think I might just try the 2 hotdogs if that's the case. Anybody got any ideas on better valve springs, apparently the GT ones fit and are stronger?
  14. I meant, Bang for Bucks, anway has anybody got any ideas re the exhaust, will a 3inch from the CAT back to the factory 2.25s with a couple of hotdogs effect the backpressure,oh the frustration of it all.
  15. I bought my T in July03,it has 6500 klms on it now. I had a stage 1 APS unichip fitted by Tim Slako here in WA, it made a big difference. 0-100 4.6 sec, 400 metres 13.26, nothing else but a drilled airbox and k&n filter. Chopped out the centre muffler and turned it into a noisy dog and lost half a second. I'm going to try a three inch from the CAT back to where the system splits into 2 two and a quarters. Making 312 kW at the flywheel, all this talk of incapable fuel injector flow etc, very scary, I think I'll stop while I'm ahead. As far as warranty goes, the diff has a usual Ford period noise at 95klm (just like an EB XR6 I bought new in 92, anyway my dealer knows about the unichip and couldn't care less, I think attitude has a lot to do with warranty claims. Has anybody got any ideas re the exhaust without wasting $1500 for a 3 inch stainless that seems to offer very little extra power, that's not good bang for bucks in my book
  16. . I took out the centre mufler and the car turned into a dog, lost half a second from 0-100 and nearly 1 sec ond over the 400metres. Have a unichip, stage one, drilled airbox and K&N filter. Used to get 0-100 in 4.63 & 400 metres, best, 13.23. Now I'm very disappointed and man what a drone. I'm going to try a three inch from the cat to where the system splits into 2x2 and a quarter and fit a couple of 9 inch hotdogs on Monday 3rd nov. Hope this brings back the midrange and the quiet. Leave well enough alone I reckon
