  2. Your not wrong Shyfrd, guess that's why his workshop was empty and the other one was a 2 day wait. Lots of sharks out there in the ocean.
  3. You can find it for $25/28 a litre in Aus if you look around. Motospecs is a good place to start.
  4. No worries SteveR. Mine stopped the hunting as soon as the Life Guard was put back in. If you want to go to the real stuff Precise or Precision Automatics in Osborne Park are the best for price and service, no new sump included as it was already steel. $530 for full flush and filter usuing Life Guard and fit new heat exchanger (I supplied the heat exchanger) others wanted as much as $850 to just do a dump and half fill.
  5. Well for those interested the squeal is a Flex Plate symptom. I got the Whoooooooooooom Whooooooooooom sound with a vibration this morning around 2000rpm when it was cold, a definate symptom. Off to the XFT hospital on Tuesday morning.
  6. Transmission Squark, mine does the same, apparently it is fixed by putting beefed up clutch plates in it. Some do it some don't apparently it's the G clutch in 3rd, transmission guy told me the next thing is a snapped input shaft. Mine also got louder when the boost was lifted but has done it under load for more than a year but it rarely gets hard time so I have left it. It had Transmax Z in it so I tried a service and full flush with new Life Guard, didn't make any difference.
  7. Mine did the same with Transmax in it. Changd it back to the factory Life Guard 3 weeks ago and the issue is gone, chanes smoother and no hunting anymore
  8. A strange creature these ZFs I'm still trying to find out what makes mine squark (whoop) changing up from 3rd to 4th under power. Had the box flush and replaced the oil with the factory stuff and still get a whoop noise when I gun it through the gears, changes fine when driving normally. I had also had a flash done on it and didn't make any difference, bloody weird.
  9. Yeah they use the savings to put a camera on a lightpole every couple of Kays so they can legally photograph every car going past then bust you if you forgot to pay your rego because you didn't have a sticker to remind you. Its all about survelliance not saving money. Next they will be saying it will save lives. "All of the governments lie to all of the people all of the time".
  10. What a ba$tard to happen to a new Merc. The insurance Co sound like a buch of tossers. I had a crack in the rear bumper of mine, bent the mesh and also cracked the insert. With QBE they gave an OK for an almost 10k repair and replaced the lot without raising an eyebrow. When I asked the assessor if they repair or replace he gave me an indignant look and said we only replace with new parts, personally I thought $500 worth of plastic welding would have made it good as new, but who am I to argue. Didn't lose my no claim bonus either.
  11. Oil is a difficult one. I don't think that because it's dark it is neccessarily a bad thing but from what I could see it does not stand up to heat very well, it made me wonder what it would have been like if I thrashed the car or drove it hard, maybe chugging around at the speed limit works it harder, as Spoolax said he has had no problems with Nulon. Personally I would rather see it all nice and clean under the rocker cover because if it has a burnt coating so do lots of other places in the motor. Two things I have noticed since the flush and change is firstly the turbo wind down bearing noise is a lot quieter, and secondly the car had an intermittant squeaky sound at idle that was similiar to a quiet belt squeal but was coming from low down at the rear of the engine and now that has gone, that may just be a coincidence, but the turbo wind down noise isn't. IMHO I think a good quality 0w 40 such as Mobil 1 or Castrol is a better option. It may cost more but in the end you get what you pay for.
  12. No not usually. This was the first time I had used it in the hope of cleaning up the black mess and staining, but at 34,000 and a change every 5000klm in a car that has barely spun the back wheels and gets a pretty gentle life. I didn't think it would have been necessary.
  13. I completely agree spic. Apart from whatever Ford put in it new for the first 2000klm, the only other oil that has ever been in it was Motul which was very expensive syntrans and I only used it once. I was also surprised by the dirty condition of the oil, but I wonder how many other users have ever removed their rocker cover or reported here what they found. I wouldn't have if there hadn't been a specific thread on Nulon here.
  14. Black crap all around the top of the head and inside the rocker cover, everything was stained black. The car gets driven normally, not thrashed and has new oil and filter every 5000ks and has only done 34,000. The tuner said it looked more like an engine that had done 140,000, called another mechanic over and asked how many ks do you think this has done? Answer, about 120,000. Idled a can of engine cleaner in it for 15 mins and the oil that came out after that was as black as tar. So gave it a new filter and a gutfull of Castrol 0w 40. It seems like the Nulon doesn't handle the heat too well. Guess you get what you pay for.
  15. After I saw what using Nulon 10w 40 engine oil left under my rocker cover the other day when the valves springs were done. I only have 2 words for Nulon in these cars NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Why wouldn't you do all of the speakers, they are the crappiest part of the sound system. The speakers are to the sound system as what the bush is to the diff, absolute junk!
  17. I have a bit of an intermittant light squeal coming from around the front of the box, rear of the engine area sometimes when the car is idling. Its only there sometimes and sounds a bit like a squealing belt. Does anybody know if that's a flexplate symptom?
  18. Did the annual wallet killing maintainance on 284 over the past 10 days. Filled the trans with new Life Guard, and fitted a new Trans heat exchanger and some new Phillips Xtreme light globes. Then courtesy of Simon and the boys at XFT. New rear diff bushes, and new valve springs as they were breaking down at around 5000rpm and got a bit more grunt form the old girl, results are on the Dyno Chart below.
  19. Ya get what ya pays for. I went back to Lube Guard as its now a sensible price, my tuner still swears by Transmax Z though.
  20. Too many years of bad marketing, bad management, lack lustre customer service, inherent faults, coupled with over priced and often hopeless servicing are coming home to roost for Ford I think. The company has become a bloody joke. I bought a million dollars worth of FPVs Falcons and Focus's for my company between 2005 and 2009 and now the only new Ford I will ever drive is from AVIS, I can't be bothered with them as a company. I rented a series 2 FG XR6 a month ago in Vic and drove it from Melbourne to Bright. It was nice on the road, effortless to drive, but it had a cheap el plastico feel about it, like everything would break at any moment. As for the 4cyl, too little, too late me thinks.
  21. Magical. I wonder if he'd do a straight swap for my F6
  22. You got that right aiboart. It's just a shame Ford don't pull their finger out a bit. Comparing the new (2011/12) Camaro, Mustang, and Charger and I have had all 3 for more than a week in the US. Unfortunately the Ford has the worst build quality. They would be doing themselves a favour if they lifted their game a bit.
  23. Fitted some Phillips Xtremes today bloody expensive from AutoPro but awesome light, well worth the spend.
