  1. I had the same problem, they fixed it but would come back every 15000km. Eventually they must of fixed it for sure as it has not come back. I am sure they replaced the Top Idler Pulley. There is nothing wrong with the belt.

    Tyres

Also got told by Buearepairs the Eagle F1's are good. Had a look around the web for some reviews and found this link. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...le%20F1%20GS-D3 Then follow a link for a comparison.
  3. I recently had the same problem as you, 5th gear crunches. Ford service said they will order parts to fix it. They have fixed mine and I can not notice any 5th gear crunches anymore. All other gears are fine as well.

    Hand Brake

Hi All, What if the handbrake failed after you applied it and it held, it could roll down any incline and possibley hit a car or even worse hit a child or person and do considerable damage. Who would be at fault in this case, the owner of the car or FORD dealer for not having fixed the handbrake. This is something you should mention to FORD dealers when you take your car in for repair - especially the people who mentioned they had FORD dealers try fixing it several times. If that does not get them to consider the implications then what will. Luckily I have not had this problem. But I always leave the car in gear, but who knows one day I may forget. Joe
  5. Also try checking the intercooler piping that runs under the battery. This was clanging metal to metal with the battery steel casing. Only occurred when idle. Used some cable ties to shift the piping off the battery casing just a millimeter or so. No more rattle.
  6. Hi, Just started to get the 5th gear crunch - 39,500km for a Nov-2003 build. The crunch occurs when doing 100km/hr @ 3000rpm. When doing a slow 4th->5th change, that is let the revs drop from 3000rpm to 2000rpm before changing, there is no crunch. All other gear changes are fine. Going through this thread, several people have had ther gear boxes replaced. Do you think I should push to get the 5th gear synchro's changed or the whole gear box changed? Have others had hassles with ford dealers, given they can say the recommended change into 5th is at 75km/hr ? If it is left as is, how bad will the crunch get ? Cheers Joe
  7. I have noticed this noise as well when applying throttle. It will appear for short bursts and disappear. As I do a lot of freeway driving, I also noticed the noise when I was driving at normal speed of 110Km/hour. It was a very windy day with large gusts of wind hitting the car, the car would slightly jerk left or right to the gusts of wind and at this time I heard the same whirring noise. So I gather it is caused by airflow over some part of the car - maybe the windscreen wipers or air getting blown past the vents under the windscreen wipers. Regards Joe
  8. Had ford service look at it, mind you in the end they did nothing but clean the serpentine belt. The noise was not there when I picked the car up, but the next morning it was back. After listening a bit harder it does come from the top idler pully. Will take the car back for a proper fix.
  9. Hi guys, Just come across a problem ( :( )with the XR6-T, done 16,000km with out any other problems. Basically If any body can give me suggestions as to what the problem could be: On cold startup You can hear regular timed squeaks from the engine, hard to pinpoint where it is comming from. As you give it some gas and the revs go up the squeeks increase in repetition with the revs. But as the engine progressively warms up the squeeks dissappear. If you give it some revs the squeeks come back. Say 1/2 temp, the squeeks come when you hit 2,500 revs. As the engine is fully warmed up the squeeks disappear entirely. I got the car booked in for service, the service guys say it could be the pulleys (do not know what he means). So if anybody has any suggestions as to what it could be that would be great - I am geussing something to do with the water pump. Cheers Joe
  10. Regarding the rattle: I had a rattle comming from the engine compartment when on idle, it is a loud rattle and annoying - sometime appears when cruising. After days of trying to work out what it was I discovered it was the intercooler piping which runs under the Battery chassis. The intercooler pipe was banging up against the bottom of the battery chassis. Given it needs some slack and requires movement for heat expansion or whatever - I used cable ties to just pull it off, no more than 1mm, from touching the battery chassis. Cheers Joe

    BRAKE SHUDDER ISSUE

Hi, Just reading through the posts I can not find anyone mentioning the symptons to brake shudder. Is it a shudder on the brake pedal when applying the brakes or is it a vibration through the steering. I have had my XR6T since Nov-2003 and have done 9000km so far, mostly doing 160km a day from home to work. 100km of this is on freeway and the reaming in city traffic. I have not had any problems so far of any kind to need a warranty service check. Only annoying thing was the intercooler pipe running under the Battery casing was banging/rattling on idle. Some cable ties moved the pipe 1mm from the battery casing and no more sound. I am sure the Ford service guys wonder what that is for !! So if anybody can give some symptons as to the brake shudder problem I can be prepared to notice what it is. Joe
