  1. Those "rustbuckets" made for a very pretty picture on the dam wall all those years ago (2004) An even older car would have been in the photo too if it hadn't taken an unplanned detour. ....ahhhh, memories.
  2. Installed new thermostat (thanks to a great tutorial posted by one of the guys on this forum)....appears to be working like a bought one . Temp gauge staying below half way now, and the fan is having a well deserved rest.
  3. Yes, I've just removed it and tested in a pot of boiling water....appears to be faulty. Will try finding one tomorrow and see if it fixes problem.
  4. I think the recall was only on the rear hoses. I had an argument with Ford at the time (see posts above).
  5. Nah....Wife had been out driving and commented that an engine warning light came on. I hopped in the car to see what lights would come on...nothing. Put my foot on the brake pedal to reverse out of the garage, and my foot sunk to the floor. Suspected straight away what the problem was from the two previous experiences. So really, an accident waiting to happen. Had a mechanic repair the problem and I took the car to work yesterday to test it. Brakes working beautifully but noticed the engine temp running very high (the Wife's original problem). Was nearly at the red mark by the time I got home. Mechanic checking on Monday...hopefully just a faulty Thermostat.
  6. Reviving an old thread.....several years later approx 160,000ks...and the front passenger brake hose blew.
  7. Nah mate, us Silver car owners would never drive like that (it would crease our cardigans) :banghead:
  8. Can confirm it was the rear hoses in the Falcons....both mine blew.
  9. I just find it refreshing that a driver is admitting he was at fault, and copping the fine accordingly (no pun intended). Well Done
  10. So sitting here bored and started reading through this thread. I'm sure it started off as "West of the Divide".....did someone move the Divide ?
  11. Nah...surely you must have been in another State when you saw that. A U-Turn at traffic lights ?
  12. Mine is a 2003 MkI with 140K on the clock. When I had it serviced in November at NRMA, they noticed and suggested : Power Steering Pump Leaking Turbo Water Line Leaking Heater Hose Leaking Intake Manifold Gasket Leaking Diff Hosing Seal Leaking Extension Housing Seal Leaking So perhaps these are some of the things you could look out for.
  13. I took an XR5T for a test drive about 18months ago. The only issue I had with it was that the indicator stick is on the left hand side of the column. Every time I changed lanes I turned on the wipers . I still look at them when they drive past and wonder what if......
  14. I got to drive mine every day for about 4 years....now unfotunately, the Wife gets to use it as her "daily" drive, while I get about in my Mazda 6 for the next 4 years Great on petrol but there's something wrong with the accelerator pedal
  15. The reference to "likely flogged" always amuses me. I drive 35,000kms a year on Sydney roads so I get to see my share of traffic. I have had an XR6T for 5 years and I can honestly say (afterall, Honest Gaza wouldn't lie), I don't flog it. I have been passed by many XR6T's ....and I would suggest that they too were not being flogged at the time. Some of us appreciate the instant acceleration on occasions, and that is enough for us. I'd be interested to know how many forum members here would say that they flog their cars.....or do we assume that while we look after our own cars....everyone else is a hoon.
  16. Had my beast since Nov 03...now done 138,000kms.
  17. Ah what they hell....someone's got to. I've had the "rubbish" Dunlop SP3000 tyres for the last 4 1/2 years (3rd set now....135,000kms) and have managed to stay on the road during all that time. Perhaps my mods aren't as high performance as others but I do have weather shields on both sides, bonnet protector and all round mudflaps so perhaps I have an unfair advantage over some of the other guys here.
  18. Yes, they do. You can add any POI's yourself.
  19. Very simple solution mate. Buy it from DSE and then you have the option to take it back within 10days if you find it unsuitable. As mentioned previously, I purchased a NavMan from DSE and when I didn't like it after one day, they glady accepted it back (as long as you keep all the original packaging and receipt). ....and yes, I read all those reviews too before making a purchase and it can get quite confusing.
  20. I think we'd all agree that Mobile phones definitely take our minds of the duty at hand. Personally, I'd love for them to be totally banned in cars so I could switch mine off and have a reason not to answer "work" calls.
  21. Only time I've had problems is after heavy rain where water manages to get into the actual boot lid (I suspect that it is via the mounting points for the spoiler). You don't know about it until you open the boot and reach in, only to have cold water trickiling down your back from above.
  22. It'll be back. I've had my XR6T since new and it's now done 135,000k's and when I take it for it's service, it will definitely need the discs machined......again.
  23. Got the wife to purchase a Navman S80 and I fiddled with it all night (the Navman) and by the next day I was ready to take it back....and did. Swapped it out for the TomTom Go720...and been happy ever since. (One note on Dan's comments though. The "reading out of text messages" is dependent upon the mobile phone used. For example, it does not work with the Nokia E65. You can check out the phones that it does work with by looking at the TomTom website).
  24. The XR6T hasn't caused me too much dramas....although it usually needs some adjusting at service time. Now my AUII is a much different stroy. Thinking of installing a sunroof so I can pull the handbrake fully.
  25. November 2003....coming up to 135,000 km's. Apart from two blown rear brake hoses (which scared the crap out of me)....all purring sweetly.
