Obd/can Boost Gauge For Xr6T...any Demand?
turbocorty posted a topic in Interior & Exterior Workshop
Hi Guys, Just made a OBD boost gauge for my car and was wondering if there is a demand for such a product. Advantage is that you don't need to run hoses / cables through the firewall. The graphics will obviously be changed from the HSV style you see in the video. Cheers, George http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghOUF5jYkyM&feature=share&list=UUc609FBmZGex_idsDs0DxpQ -
After-Market Install Kit For Ba/bf/territory - Coming Soon
turbocorty replied to turbocorty's topic in Audio/Visual Workshop
At this stage I have only looked at the single zone system...the dual zone system will come next. In regards to the OBD data, I will add as much as I can. The less graphics I use, the more data I can display as text. I will get a sample up and running this week. Cheers- 6 replies

Hi Guy's It's been a long time since the days of my first Typhoon! Anyway, got myself a BF turbo last week and started my new project - The audio system. My aim is to do what I did for the VE Late model camira and allow owners to install a double din unit of their choice. Please view the video and feel free to make suggestions regarding final look you would like. Just remember that the Factory HVAC controls must stay! Cheers, George http://youtu.be/w5M77ErxXsU

Does SCT have permission from Ford Australia to "CRACK" the factory pcm even though is code protected? If the answer is NO, then everyone with the ability should try and crack thier product...Just to teach them a lesson. ..I feel much better now!

andyf, I went through the same problem with the flash tuner2. I had the issue that CAPA sell you a box that increases your power, but they don't have a proven generic tune to suit a standard typhoon. The dealer I bought it from was ulta quick to upsell me a custom tune for another $500. Anyway, If you have not got what you paid for, call CAPA and they will send new files to the dealer you bought if from until you are happy. I had about 6 files sent until I was satisfied (sort off). The end result was 254rwkw but the graph has a power dip at around 3000rpm.

Standard Fg F6 Hard Driving Fuel Consumption Figures
turbocorty replied to mickq's topic in FPV PERFORMANCE INC.
mickq, I will give you my results... I am what most people call a thrasher!! Saying this does not mean I always exceed the speed limit - I actually havent had a speeding fine for a long time. But I do love feeling the turbo doing its job on almost every drive I take! I normally use the gas pedal like a digital switch. My car started off as my fully paid for company car where never gave a crap about fuel cost or tyres and during this period I would get around 16.9 to 18l per hundred. The car now has over 80,000 on the clock and it is more economical - never exceeds 16l per hundred. There is a trick to enjoying the power and getting good economy - Thrash it upto the speed limit and then stick it straight into 6th -if it's a manual. When crusing, I usually take off in second, quickly into 4th and I am in 6th at 60k's an hour. Even doing this, the car has more acceleration that the traffic in front. The ford 6 chews alot of fuel during warm up. If you do lots of small trips were the engine cools down between them, it will guzzel heaps " This is one of the reasons ford is getting rid of this motor in 2010" I live in the inner burbs of melbourne so there is not much freeway driving. On occasion that I drive on the freeway, the consumption drops to 14zz. In summary, If you don't hold the car in low gears for no reson, it will be very economical. Cheers -
got quoted $53,000 drive away on a standard F6. BUT... it included the employee discount. cheers

I have used the following method for years and on every turbo car that I have owned and it seems to work. When I first got my Typhoon all the mag were reporting 14 second 1/4 miles. I grove mine to calder and ran a 13.2 on my first pass (Car completely standard using normal premium feul.) This is my approach (very similar to riding the clutch..but) OK. First you need to understand how the engine produces power and take it into consideration when taking off. The specs for the typhoon are 550Nm of torque @2000 rpm. BUT, this is only under full load. When you rev your motor at 2000rpm in neutral, you actually have less power than a standard BA XT. This is the reason it bogs down if you dump the clutch at 2000 rpm. What you need to do is load up the motor and get boost happening without loosing traction.. The simple way to reduce lag on take off is ....(This may be a little hard for me to explain in writing) With the 1 gear selected and the clutch fully pressed, Floor the gas till the motor approaches 5000rpm, release until the revs drop to 3000 and floor it again - repeat this 4 or 5 times (what this is doing is speeding up the turbo more than just holding the revs at 5000 rpm because of the load trying to accelerate the engine's rpm's) . When you are happy that the turbo is up to speed, you back off the accelerator release the clutch in a smooth controlled motion (NOT FULLY!) apply about 1/4 gas and the trick is to try and keep the motors revs at about 2500 whilst riding the clutch. You will need to practice this as it is a combination of clutch and gas that produces the best result. DO NOT just floor the gas as it will wheel spin or fry the clutch. Once the vehicle speed has caught up to the revs (Clutch no longer slipping) release clutch and nail the gas. You should now be on boost and not wheelspining like crazy (Unless you have mods done in wich case you need to feed the gas slower) Anyway, this is my preference and it may not be the best for all vehicles. Cheers

I got one the other day and must say it is very usefull if you understand what you are doing with it. I got capa to supply me with a generic tune that was ok(after 5 different attempts), and on the dyno I was able to fine tune it with the controller. - I must admit that the base tune must be close before you begin. My mechanically standard Typhoon now has 255rkw and I have the ability to increase/Decrease timing or fuel depending on the situation/driving conditions or fuel used. Cheers

I got my CAPA box from Springy - He was very eager to sell me a custom tune for an additional $500 bucks. All I wanted was a generic tune that worked with my standard car.. All I can say is, shop around for prices!

The mags always report crap times, as was the case when the BA typhoon came out. From memory, they reported 14.0 1/4 times. I took my new STD manual BA Typhoon to calder in 2005 and ran a 13.2 on my first run. Using my car as a reference, I would say that the standard FG F6 is good for 12.8 - 12.9 down the quater no problem. (With a manual!) The sticky track will help! Cheers
-
Typhoon freak, Did you put in a generic tune and how did it go compared to stock? I got a flash2 for mine and all generic programs seem to make it go backwards. Cheers
-
Phoontastic, Yeah its a crap generic tune - it made sweet f(^% all difference and added a heap of issues like traction control now sh*ts itself, the high speed fans are on even at low temps. Wow, I feel like a winner! - I paid over $600 to gain a whole heap of problems. - A capa "Generic tune" should be "Rock solid performance, proven and tested". I will not accept that capa cannot make a generic file that works on all totally standard Typhoon's / Xr6T's. Ford has done it - every car produced has a generic tune. I still smell a rat...Provide a crap tune, let the tuner upsell a custom dyno tune for $500 +. I need to go in a corner and cry...I feel violated! cheers
-
I just did the capa update to my f6, and I tell you what, the FG f6 would still kill it, and its under warranty! cheers
-
Hi Chris, I understand your point but it doesn't make sense when all I am asking for is a proven and reliable tune to upgrade the power of my standard car. Capa must have tuned many cars to know what is a safe reliable tune with a small margin for saftey. The worst thing was what the tuner said to me after he offered a custom tune for $500 bucks. I asked the question "Do you update the comupter live or do you update the Capa box and then download it into the car - If so, It would take a long time to get it right ?" His response was that he updates the capa box but he has so many files from past cars that he may only go thrugh this proceedure 2 or 3 times. This is fair enough, but for $500 bucks I would expect he would be on the dyno almost all day fine tuning - the price doesn't justify the work if this is the case. Anyway, I haven't even loaded the file into my car, so I am probably jumping the gun and being too negative before trying it. I fully agree on a custom tune after any modifications to the cars factory Hardware. Cheers

HI I just purchased the flash2 unit for my F6, and have requested a 10PSI tune that I expect to work as good as a factory tune. Considering my car is standard with no modifications, the capa generic tune should be perfect. I would be very pissed of if the tune is not 100%. Why? Because a custom tune should only be needed if you change major components like injectors. Does Ford have bolkes at the end of the production line doing custom tunes for every car? No. If the 10 PSI tune has problems, then I am certain that either Capa have not done a good job, or its all in the game to make you spend more money! Anyway, I hope all goes well with it. Cheers

Aftermarket Heater Controller For Ba/bf
turbocorty replied to turbocorty's topic in Audio/Visual Workshop
Hi Guys, Not much has happend on it, but I have not forgotten. The most difficult part is creating a control panel that looks good and is universal across the car ranges. I have experimented with using a small touch screen, but in order to keep costs down, it may have to be a simple control panel with switches. Anyway, most of my time has been spent developing gaggets for VE..Fords will follow soon. Sorry for the wait. Cheers -
hi Chris, I LIKE IT !!! The auto sux....but I am a manual man. The car I drove was an auto, and on a couple of hard starts all the electronics got confused...I floor the gas at 20k's, boost kicks in and wheelspin starts instantly, traction control stops the car from steping out to the left, power comes back on together with wheel spin, traction stops it from steping out too far to the right, transmission desides to change gears during the mayhem, car makes some strange driveline noises, now its bogged for a second, again another noise from derive train and power back on and were flying agan! All this put me of the Auto. The car has so much power for the tyre size, that it feels like the motor is trying to rip its arse apart when traction control engages. Don't read this the wrong way, I fxxin love it! More power the better, but I think Ford have gone too far with it. I would get one in an instant, but it must be a manual! Cheers

Hi I took qn FG F6 for a drive today and was shocked at the amount of wheel spin / lack of traction. Anyway, with slicks and a good driver this animal would run 12.5 to 12.7 quaters in stock trim! I loved it. WIll the boss let me upgrade??? cheers

OK....Finally ive got the car back together... The long bolt was for all vehicles fitted with a big damper on the end of the bolt. FPV does not use the damper on any of the vehicles - Possibly because the longer bolt breaks more easily?!? Anyway, Replaced the bush, bolt and diff housing...How happy am I after ripping out the whole arsse end of the vehicle for one under engineered $12.00 bolt!! The shorter bolt has the same P/N but ends in a "C" sufix. Lets see how long this one lasts!! Cheers

Hi Guy's The other day whilst towing, I backed off the accelerator and I hear a very loud BANG from the rear end. This BANG repeated every time I backed off the gas. I first thought it was a drive shaft or something, but after putting the car on a hoist, we found that the big bolt that stops the diff twisting had snapped. The issue I have is... About 2 year ago the rear end of the car was pulled apart for other work to be carried out and according to Ford's record's, the suspect bolt was replaced. The problem is that I purchased the exact same bolt (Same P/N) and it is at least 40mm longer than the bolt that snapped in the vehicle. Q. Has anyone else had issues with this Bolt? Q. Does anyone know why there are diffrerent size bolts? The new one I purchased will not fit yet it is the correct part number?? This would not be such a issue if it happened 3 weeks ago when it was still under warranty!! Anyway, any help or advice would be great. Cheers

12 second car it will be without fail! My standard manual baF6 did a 13.2 in standard trim, the FG will easily crack a 12 and very low 5's / high 4's to 100. the olny thing stopping it will be traction and these number will only ever be realised on the track. The injectors used are said to be over 30% higher in flow rate - this is good news for the rest of us!! (only if they are the same dimensions) cheers

Aftermarket Heater Controller For Ba/bf
turbocorty replied to turbocorty's topic in Audio/Visual Workshop
Hi Guy's Sorry for slow response... I am treating it as a part time project at this stage. I have got a prototype working on the bus, but now need to design the circuit board and connection system onto the HVAC button assy. The aim is to allow you to cut out a hole that extends below the CD slot leaving the factory HVAC buttons alone. I will update over the next few weeks Cheers -
