  1. Hi Guys, Just made a OBD boost gauge for my car and was wondering if there is a demand for such a product. Advantage is that you don't need to run hoses / cables through the firewall. The graphics will obviously be changed from the HSV style you see in the video. Cheers, George http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghOUF5jYkyM&feature=share&list=UUc609FBmZGex_idsDs0DxpQ
  2. At this stage I have only looked at the single zone system...the dual zone system will come next. In regards to the OBD data, I will add as much as I can. The less graphics I use, the more data I can display as text. I will get a sample up and running this week. Cheers
  3. Swingdog, Funny you should mention that...It's going to have some OBD data also! Cheers, G
  4. Hi Guy's It's been a long time since the days of my first Typhoon! Anyway, got myself a BF turbo last week and started my new project - The audio system. My aim is to do what I did for the VE Late model camira and allow owners to install a double din unit of their choice. Please view the video and feel free to make suggestions regarding final look you would like. Just remember that the Factory HVAC controls must stay! Cheers, George http://youtu.be/w5M77ErxXsU
  5. Does SCT have permission from Ford Australia to "CRACK" the factory pcm even though is code protected? If the answer is NO, then everyone with the ability should try and crack thier product...Just to teach them a lesson. ..I feel much better now!
  6. andyf, I went through the same problem with the flash tuner2. I had the issue that CAPA sell you a box that increases your power, but they don't have a proven generic tune to suit a standard typhoon. The dealer I bought it from was ulta quick to upsell me a custom tune for another $500. Anyway, If you have not got what you paid for, call CAPA and they will send new files to the dealer you bought if from until you are happy. I had about 6 files sent until I was satisfied (sort off). The end result was 254rwkw but the graph has a power dip at around 3000rpm.
  7. mickq, I will give you my results... I am what most people call a thrasher!! Saying this does not mean I always exceed the speed limit - I actually havent had a speeding fine for a long time. But I do love feeling the turbo doing its job on almost every drive I take! I normally use the gas pedal like a digital switch. My car started off as my fully paid for company car where never gave a crap about fuel cost or tyres and during this period I would get around 16.9 to 18l per hundred. The car now has over 80,000 on the clock and it is more economical - never exceeds 16l per hundred. There is a trick to enjoying the power and getting good economy - Thrash it upto the speed limit and then stick it straight into 6th -if it's a manual. When crusing, I usually take off in second, quickly into 4th and I am in 6th at 60k's an hour. Even doing this, the car has more acceleration that the traffic in front. The ford 6 chews alot of fuel during warm up. If you do lots of small trips were the engine cools down between them, it will guzzel heaps " This is one of the reasons ford is getting rid of this motor in 2010" I live in the inner burbs of melbourne so there is not much freeway driving. On occasion that I drive on the freeway, the consumption drops to 14zz. In summary, If you don't hold the car in low gears for no reson, it will be very economical. Cheers
  8. got quoted $53,000 drive away on a standard F6. BUT... it included the employee discount. cheers
  9. I have used the following method for years and on every turbo car that I have owned and it seems to work. When I first got my Typhoon all the mag were reporting 14 second 1/4 miles. I grove mine to calder and ran a 13.2 on my first pass (Car completely standard using normal premium feul.) This is my approach (very similar to riding the clutch..but) OK. First you need to understand how the engine produces power and take it into consideration when taking off. The specs for the typhoon are 550Nm of torque @2000 rpm. BUT, this is only under full load. When you rev your motor at 2000rpm in neutral, you actually have less power than a standard BA XT. This is the reason it bogs down if you dump the clutch at 2000 rpm. What you need to do is load up the motor and get boost happening without loosing traction.. The simple way to reduce lag on take off is ....(This may be a little hard for me to explain in writing) With the 1 gear selected and the clutch fully pressed, Floor the gas till the motor approaches 5000rpm, release until the revs drop to 3000 and floor it again - repeat this 4 or 5 times (what this is doing is speeding up the turbo more than just holding the revs at 5000 rpm because of the load trying to accelerate the engine's rpm's) . When you are happy that the turbo is up to speed, you back off the accelerator release the clutch in a smooth controlled motion (NOT FULLY!) apply about 1/4 gas and the trick is to try and keep the motors revs at about 2500 whilst riding the clutch. You will need to practice this as it is a combination of clutch and gas that produces the best result. DO NOT just floor the gas as it will wheel spin or fry the clutch. Once the vehicle speed has caught up to the revs (Clutch no longer slipping) release clutch and nail the gas. You should now be on boost and not wheelspining like crazy (Unless you have mods done in wich case you need to feed the gas slower) Anyway, this is my preference and it may not be the best for all vehicles. Cheers
  10. I got one the other day and must say it is very usefull if you understand what you are doing with it. I got capa to supply me with a generic tune that was ok(after 5 different attempts), and on the dyno I was able to fine tune it with the controller. - I must admit that the base tune must be close before you begin. My mechanically standard Typhoon now has 255rkw and I have the ability to increase/Decrease timing or fuel depending on the situation/driving conditions or fuel used. Cheers
  11. I got my CAPA box from Springy - He was very eager to sell me a custom tune for an additional $500 bucks. All I wanted was a generic tune that worked with my standard car.. All I can say is, shop around for prices!
  12. The mags always report crap times, as was the case when the BA typhoon came out. From memory, they reported 14.0 1/4 times. I took my new STD manual BA Typhoon to calder in 2005 and ran a 13.2 on my first run. Using my car as a reference, I would say that the standard FG F6 is good for 12.8 - 12.9 down the quater no problem. (With a manual!) The sticky track will help! Cheers
  13. Typhoon freak, Did you put in a generic tune and how did it go compared to stock? I got a flash2 for mine and all generic programs seem to make it go backwards. Cheers
  14. Phoontastic, Yeah its a crap generic tune - it made sweet f(^% all difference and added a heap of issues like traction control now sh*ts itself, the high speed fans are on even at low temps. Wow, I feel like a winner! - I paid over $600 to gain a whole heap of problems. - A capa "Generic tune" should be "Rock solid performance, proven and tested". I will not accept that capa cannot make a generic file that works on all totally standard Typhoon's / Xr6T's. Ford has done it - every car produced has a generic tune. I still smell a rat...Provide a crap tune, let the tuner upsell a custom dyno tune for $500 +. I need to go in a corner and cry...I feel violated! cheers
  15. I just did the capa update to my f6, and I tell you what, the FG f6 would still kill it, and its under warranty! cheers
