  1. The 3MPS is Front drive as well. You are thinking of the 6MPS which is the 4WD version (although its more of a front bias style where the rear kicks in when needed but never more than 50% of torque to the back). Fifth gear and Top gear have driven the RS - as it turns out it is prety good.
  2. Why would it be slower than a 3MPs when it has a tick diff and suspension, more power and more torque? - I am wondering if the wheels are too big and the tyres too low in their profile?
  3. I think the GTI would tempt the XR5 crew The two car's don't even compare... The XR5 is a torque steering, tiny, cheaply put together using cheap materials, creaky sh*tbox that freaks out when seeing a corner. A XT Falcon handles better. The GTI doesn't have torque steer even when using launch control, and handles brilliantly with next to no body roll, and is a very solid car. I can see why Aniken, and my workmate chose the GTI over the XR5 after I drove both of them.. ← Obviously the GTi has less torque steer - but it also has much less torque - lol that's no achievement. They are both made in Germany the focus weighs more so is probably more "solid". Perhaps what you should have said is that the GTi has more of a quality feel and is more refined but it costs more and is slower. http://autoweb.drive.com.au/cms/A_3052/article.html http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story...5-13232,00.html http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/ArticleD...eID=12572&vf=22 http://www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/news_...s-xr5-turbo.htm
  4. By all reports the 3 mps goes like a cut snake yet has good road manners and very little torque steer. Its tricky LSD and smart electronics do the trick nicely. My guess is that they probably tried making it 4wd like the 6mps and found that it was much the same in performance as the 6mps. By making it FWD they created a true "hot hatch" The price is prety high though as is the VW GTi. The XR5 comes in at a much more reasonable price and still has a lot more power and torque than the GTi.
  5. However, I think the twin turbo APS BOSS will be very exxy. Much better bang for buck with the modded T6 or modded Typhoon. I also see engine room heat problems with a turbo system on a V8. I know how difficult it was/is for me to keep heat out of my engine bay with just a six and lotsa space around it - almost impossible to manage with the BOSS V8 shoehorned into the BA engine bay I would reckon. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree - If your going for performance then just stick to the turbo6 - they are a proven winner. Nizpro already has "bullet proof" 1000hp packages and are working on 1350HP packages. Also I think the phoon looks great - It looks more european than american in the way they did the body kit vs the GT.
  6. When you look at what you get for your $$ the extra $5K for the XR6T is worth it if you want a good bit more power. If you have a NA then just sell it and buy the T. Ford looked at both turbo and supercharger and chose turbo for good reason. Its a great setup and being a 4L engine with VVT + BB turbo lag is minimal - this can be reduced further with one of the stage 1 or 2 kits. For the people who chose NA for cost reasons and dont want to sell their car JMM do a upgrade kit that makes about 230kw from the BA 4.0 engine. This kit costs under $3K and of course since its not making huge amounts of torque your not going to have as much driveline and slippery diff issues They are working on a kit that has even more power. Want to do something *different* ? - why not have the best of both worlds and develop a twincharger kit that uses a positive displacement S/C and the factory turbo! that way you have that instant throttle response and the turbo top end. You also have the LSD, traction control, factory I/C, lower C/R engine and whatever else Ford changed on the XR6T.
  7. The new 6speed manual sounds great to me. With that much torque its not as if you have to change gears much anyhow if you dont wont to If your wife cant drive a manual - teach her! For drag racing is it really a big deal for a street car? - I thought it was only once your down to low 11's that having an auto starts to be much of an advantage? I have seen plenty of cars still using manuals with clutches into the 9's.
  8. Why would it cost so much? Mal Wood seams to be able to slot Mustang T56s into XR6's without too many drama's - Perhaps these would be a better option?
  9. Dealers dont get paid the normal retail amount though for warranty work - they get paid a prety minimal ammount which just covers their costs - also they have to usualy wait a while to get paid as the manufactuers usualy only pay monthly. The upside is they get to make $$$$ on non warranty repairs/servicing. It should be interesting to see how well the APS kit works with the new engine- perhaps a before and after dyno run could be performed. Maybe you could see if Ford can put the LPG rods in which are said to be stronger - they are an off the shelf BA falcon part so I cant see it as being a big drama?
  10. or this
  11. I cant beleive that people would let dogs in a brand new T, before long you end up like this..
  12. It seams a bit strange that they didnt use the LPG rods in the T from the start - I doubt it would have cost them a lot extra. Does anyone have a pic or whatever of the LPG rods? I wonder how much stronger they are compared to the normal rods and how much weaker they are compared to aftermarket ones like the Nizpro?
  13. Is this a technical issue or a business issue or both? I would have assumed that the unichip being an interceptor would work with the factory ECU so that say if the car was pinging it would pull back the timing or whatever? If it is a technical issue could future versions of the unichip/xede/whatever have thoes issues resolved so that like a factory ECU they have the smarts to cope with variations in fuel ect? As it stands is it possible to pre tune a unichip so that you can just plug it in but take into account variations so instead of 280kw you get say 270 on average? I can understand that obviously not everyone is going to be satisfied however as no custom tuning has been done then its just a matter of unpluging and returning/selling it *or* having the custom tune done. After all I cant really see any reaon why the total cost of buying a unichip with a pre-installed map and then later haing it tuned would be more than buying it with no map and having the custom tune done from the start? I know this sounds bad for the dyno tuners as dyno's are expensive and they get cut out - however I think in the long term it would mean more business for them as thoes customers will probably want more power down the track.
  14. What I mean is can I buy just the unichip on its own for say $1100 but with a suitable map already loaded so I can just plug it in and get say 270kw?
  15. Im thinking now that unichip (and Xede I think?) have plug in modules whats the possiblity of buying it "pre loaded" with apropriate maps - even if they are a little more conservative than the custom ones? This would be a great toe-in-the-water aproach that means if the customer wants to go further they can buy the injectors, exhaust ect and then have a re-tune or if they dont like it they can just take it off and return it to standard. The other area it would be good as a kit that can just be instaled by any good mechanic as no dyno tuning would be needed as long as you stuck the whole kit on and didnt do any other mods.
  16. The NT of course has some highways with no speed restriction Fancy a driving holiday to the top end? Then in WA they are allowed radar detectors. It seams the other states and territores are behind - too busy working on money grabbing scams.
  17. This is good news.. If these guys are switched on they will be offering a warranty ect so it will be almost like buying a FPV. Maybe more like a CSV - athough CSV has obviously been around a lot longer and is now recognised as a manufacturer. Remember Mic Webbs SVO Falcons and the Peter Brock Falcons? Though thoes cars were mainly cosmetic in enhancements. At the very least this will put pressure on FPV to release a FPV XR6T which is what everyone has been waiting for. Lets see 300-350kw, stang T56 6speed, GT diff, GT-P brembo's, interior and body kit - that would do nicely. Maybe also offer a stripped out lightweight version and that could be the car that takes out the E55 as the quickest/fastest production sedan.
  18. GT and GT-P are great - especialy the GT-P with its massive Brembo's. As far as fun for your $$ goes you cant beat the XR6T - go for premium brakes, leather, sound and your set. Go and see Redcliffe Dyno - he is making something like 400kw+ from his own XR6T - amazing stuff
  19. I say go the manual - with an engine like that you can prety much just leave it in any gear you like and the torque will be enough to make it go Plus it feels great, more involving to drive and more power gets to the wheels. As for resale a manual can often fetch a higher price - reason is because they tend to be in short supply on the second hand market. The new cars in this price range tend to be brought under lease by people who are older and do a fair few k's - so they prefer a auto. A few years down the track though the buyer for these used cars tends to be someone a bit younger who will be using the car mainly for personal use - maybe as a weekend car or whatever - these people often prefer a manual.
  20. The premium brakes have got to be the best and most usefull option. Its one thing having a fast car its another being able to pull up. It would cost you a lot more down the track trying to add brakes as good as the premium ones - and no dba rotors on standard brakes are not a patch on the real things. The 18inch wheels are mainly just going to cost you more in tyres. Although they do look better and slight handling improvement but if your straped for cash then dont worry. Premium sound - good option but the standard system is prety decent anyhow - depends on how much you like music. If you just listen to the radio then its probably not worth it - and besides you can always add an aftermarket system later - probably something with mp3 capablity. leather is a great option - leather seats look great, feel great, give the car an upmarket feel and are easy to clean. you cant really add this easily later so its worthwhile as a factory option. I dont really see much benifit in the upgraded wheel and gearknob - the standard ones are good anyhow. Sunroof is a personal thing - remember it takes headroom away and can lead to rust and leaks down the track.. With the tinting you can get it done much cheaper by going to the local tint place - look for one that has the option of 3M lifetime warranty. Same goes for paint protection ect - dont bother. The factory matts look prety nice but you can get aftermarket ones a fair bit cheaper. In short - get premium brakes, leather, maybe premium sound and then spend the rest on chip, exhuast and maybe some lower springs or suspension work.
  21. I remember Zoom were one of the first mags to report on the VLT making big power.. Way back then.. Should be interesting.
  22. The reasons for the RWD only Territory is it would be cheaper, use less fuel and maybe a bit lighter (no front driveshafts, standard RWD g/box, no transfercase) .. Its a bit like how Honduh make a FWD only CRV as well as the 4WD one. I am very keen to see the FPV T6 - should be a big seller. Its a pitty they dont make a 400kw turbo six GTHO but hey it would be too fast and if they use a s/c V8 then it will make it more fun for the boosted XR6T boys to leave in the dust
  23. What I dont understand is why more people dont go for the factory premium brake option. You get that and your brake problems are solved - its prety good value. Same goes for Leather seats - get thoes from the start as you cant add it easily later. The stereo, 18's ect they can be added as aftermarket parts down the track - and besides 17inch tyres are a fair bit cheaper at the moment. As for moding the XR6T - why wouldnt you - People pay $100K for a HSV GTS300 and double that for a E55 or M5 - What if you could make your XR6T have similar performance? - well you can
