  1. One of the favorite insults I've given was to a good female friend. After a rather long trip back from Airlie Beach to Brisbane we got out of the car at which time she remarked " Arr man I've got a numb ass"! Me being the polite gentleman that I am promptly replied "sh*t, that must take a load off". Might I add, she didn't seem to find it as funny as me and if I wasn't quite so light on my feet the right hand she swung may well have connected with some marked degree of force.
  2. Does anyone know of a good person to talk to in the Cairns region for a brake upgrade. I was thinking along the lines of: FRONT: - 330mm DBA 4000 series discs - AP racing 4 pot calipers - Ferodo pads REAR: - Keep current calipers but replace rotors with DBA slotted rotors + Ferodo pads Any suggestions of a good place in Cairns area to do the work + any opinions regarding this brake set-up would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Xr6tBug
  3. Holly sh@t Plonky: I think mabey you should start walking around in cevlar and bubble rap. BA Turbs: Don't know where your located but if your close, me and some friends are going climbing at Mt. Stuart (Townsville) on Saturday.
  4. The easiest program I have found to make DivX is Vidomi. To backup DVD's I use DVDFab which simply splits the original duel layer DVD to the size of 2 single DVD's. I like it that way cause no loss of quality. A good site to check-out is www.doom9.org. Heaps of tut's and links to download some very useful programs. If all else fails get your neighbours 10 year old to give it a go.
  5. My opinion would be to pay an extra 5k and get a new XR with the lux pack and you can select the options that you want... but that's only because that's what I did. So I'm biased. But if you did go for this one you should be able to get the price down a couple of grand if you haggle a little.
  6. Am averaging 15.1 at the moment but only done 1000k's so I expect that will improve once the engine has been run in. Doesn't really matter but cause I don't pay for the fuel. Drive fairly normally most of the time but do tend to give it a good squirt when the opportunity arises. Unfortuantly the last time the opportunity arose I was passing an R8 with traction control off through a roundabout a little in-excess of the speed limit, with a mild amout of oversteer at aroud 1 or 2 am .... with an unmarked cop quietly observing the lovely manova (bugga).
  7. I agree that you really need to drive both in demo cars. For me I prefered the manual as I do alot of driving through some twisty ranges and 90% of my driving is on country roads. I have had the manual for about a week now and apart from it being a little tight for the first 1000k's I have not had a problem. Either way you are going to love the car. Happy driving. Xr6tBug.
  8. Thanks for all the kind replies. Had the car for arond a week now and already up to 1000 on the clock and I live basically next door to work. I find that quite often my 1 minute drive home converts rapidly into a quick one hour romp through some country roads. A good drive for anyone who loves a good cruiz' follow my Sunday rout. From Atherton to Mareeba via the Canal Rd (nice twisty rd 100k speed limit - almost no trafic and plenty of places to overtake but watch for the dips - you will bottom out if you take them at or above 100k). From Mareeba to the Rex range down to Port Douglas. A quick stop to poke around the markets and a good place to try and pick up a hot friendly tourist. From their take the coast road to Cairns (scenic rd which runs along the shore most of the way to cairns - would be more fun at 100 but limited to 70 most of the way - lots of cops and trafic). From Cairns you have 3 options 1. head up the Kuranda range (good number of bends with good camber and a number of overtaking lanes - 80k limit but at that speed its still a lot of fun. Lots of cars and at peek hours its easy to get stuck behind lots of slow cars) 2. Head over to Gordonvale and take the beautifully twisting Gillies (originally had 613 bends to reach the top but the 1958-1965 update reduced that by around 1/3 to around 200 bends). Not a road to take passangers if they get even remotely car sick. I think it has a 80k limit but in general your to busy changing gears and hugging corners to take a moment to look at your speedo. Plently of passing lanes and most people are more than happy to wave you by. Definatly one of my favorite ranges. Be carefull in the wet, she gets slippery and theirs not much to stop you taking a dive off the cliff if you lose it. Also be aware their can be small land slips and rock falls particularly after heavy rain and a number of the corners particularly at the top of the range have a corrigated surface. 3. Head on almost to Innisfail (think I spelt that wrong) and take the Parmison up to the tablelands. Nice scenic drive up towards the misty mountains. 100k most of the way. Loads of sweeping bends that just make you want to floor it (but I see a cop on this road almost every time I use it - most likely this road gives everyone the same feeling). This is a common road for large trucks so look out. When you find one going 10k and your doing... alot more than that, they can come at you real quick. Apart from that its a great drive through some really nice country areas. I took option 3 on Sunday cause it was pissing down rain. Was hugly supprised by the improvement in grip over the SS. Quite often I found myself shocked when I took a look at the speedo, the car just handles so smoothly. Overall with a few stops a good 7 hour cruiz'. That's my yearly rant. Sorry for the long post but LOVE THE T. Happy driving. Xr6tBug
  9. sh*t some people are paying rediculous prices for their insurance. I'm 23 only been insured for 7months and I only pay around $1000 per year on the T. Do some shopping around.
  10. It's finally arrived. Picked up the blue beast this afternoon. Please note any run in procedure instantly flys out the window once your in the car. Drove it up from Cairn via the Kuranda range. Loved every minute. Handles like a dream, sounds beautiful and looks even better. I had to park it outside the window at subway so I could admire it while eating dinner. Definatly in love with the new wheels. Only complaint at the moment would be the spongy feel of the brakes but I'm sure I'll get used to that and if not I'm sure theirs a good aftermarket solution. Thanks for all the people on the forum who have offered some excellent advise, its made the selection of options that much easier. Happy driving. XR6TBug
  11. Ordered mine 1st April. Still havn't picked it up yet. It arived at the dealer last week but the dealler hadn't sent through the paperwork to the lease company so it's still another about 2weeks before I can pick it up. :cussing: On the up side I went down on the weekend to give it a look over and I'm more than impressed. One f&*(ing hot looking car, inside and out. Just can't wait to be able to drive it away.
  12. Sounds like its time for fat chick jokes. Help save the planet, harpoon a fat chick. Just don't do it in the back of your XR! No fat chicks!!!
  13. I don't get it either and I'm going to be leasing my car. My poor financial advisor probably has a little scream every time I give him a call to reconfirm that I'm doing the right thing and has to try and explain the whole thing to me again. I still don't really get it but it looks like a great deal on paper. I work for Qld Health so aparantly that was of great benefit. Just to show the advantage of leasing, for some, I was able to get a new XR6T with a good amount of options and it will be around the same amount of burden to my buget as the repayments for my current 2001 SS. And as a bonus the lease company will cover peterol and maintenance. I had to give another lease company a call to check that I wasn't being conned because it seamed like such a great deal. So my advise if your a bit of a financial dumb ass like myself give a financial advisor a call and get them to wright out all the figures for ya. You may be plesently supprised.
  14. Mental note... don't with Rusty.
  15. You mean you don't get sick days? I'd definatley be coming down with a bad case of Ineedtopickmecarupitis. If you need I have a pad of hospital sick leave slips
  16. Congrats Dsan. It won't be to long to wait now. Good to hear they are still making the XR's. I thought that maybe they had diverted the entire Ford production line over to making Territories. Hope you enjoy the new ride. By the way how long have you waited now since placing the order.
  17. Ordered mine 03/04/04. Still can't get a clear answer when they are going to start building the thing. It better be soon cause once I traded the SS thought it wouldn't be more than a month before I got the XR so... lets just say hope they didn't expect to get the SS with any rubber left on the wheels :banghead: .
  18. What is the deal with the heal toe thing. Is it to give the the car a few rev's just before changing gears to make for a smoother down shift?

Ha Lyko, Glad to hear your enjoying the new ride. From what I've read it'll be another 8 weeks before I get my new T. . Sonds like some good options, unfortunatly you only managed to get the second best colour. Just stirring. Glad to here it beats an SS that's what I traded for the XR for.
  21. Ha Everyone, Thanks for the relplies. By the sounds of things peoples with the manual are more than happy with what they have, and I myself generally prefer to drive a manual so I'll be changing the order the sarvo. Ha Turbo4lt: I used to live at the bottom of kangaroo valley rd in Berry when I was a young fella. Small world ay. Machtheknife: The Gillies is a fun drive. Every time I get back to the top I have to stop, get out of the car and twist my seat covers back to the front of the seat. $3000 is a bit steep at the moment (insurance probably will want that - only 23 ) but most definatly the first mod I do will be to upgrade the brakes. Thinking of 4 pot AP Racing front with rear slotted rotars and better pads at the back. Brake fade down a steep mountain with sharp corners and sheer drops of a few hundred feet just ain't my idea of a good time. Thanks all for sharing your experience. Much appreciated.
  22. Hi all, I've just ordered an XR6T Lux pack, sports wheel and AUTO???. I know its a question which has been asked more times than you can point a stick at but I've read'em all and driven both the auto and the manual and now I'm more confused than ever. I live on the Atherton Tablelands which provides some of the most enjoyable and scenic driving pleasure which you will probably find anywere in Australia. Very little trafic, winding roads with some nice long straight sections and every weekend I have a choice of around four ranges to drive down to get wherever it is I'm going. I do enjoy driving a car rather than just steering as many have previously said and on the test drive I didn't find the manual to be as bad as all the mags make it out to be (a little slow and a tight shift esp. going down into second). I currently drive a VX SS and probably the only thing I would have changed on it was to get the manual version. However the mag reviews and the criticism the manual has received got the better of me so I ordered an Auto. My question is does the SSS in manual mode give those with this box enough control to go through a twisting range with a level of enjoyment close to that of driving a manual. Or is it the case that when taking the twisty and hilly stuff you find yourself yearning a manual. And for those of you with the manual are you happy with your decision or have the slow changes, heavy clutch ect. got you wishing you got the auto. Basically who thinks I should change my order? Thanks in advance for your replies.
