Is there really any point.. I'm not interested in 180SX's, nor would I ever buy one. (not bagging the car, just not in the same class, just cause it has a turbo attached to the engine....seriously) Show me a larger 4 door sedan that can tow my boat, and is a quick car at the same time, then lets talk It's like saying I'll race someones speedboat with my 1100 fuel injected jetski, why bother?

Are you saying that you removed the engine to measure the 130fwkW, and then ran the car on a chassis Dyno and measured 98rwkW. Then you finished a few mods, removed the engine again and measured 246fwkW, then put it all back in and measured 185rwkW? Correct me if I'm wrong, but you were reading the std kW from the owners manual, then put your car on a Dyno, recorded that increase, completed the mods, put your car back on the Dyno and worked the 25% backwards! So in other words you are saying it's 246fwkW cause you can use a calculator? I'm just trying to establish facts here
  3. I think this has been covered before... but some time ago. Anyway, I started the car the other morning, and just as it started I let the key bounce back to "on", it stalled straight away, and like a waterfall in a gravity free zone, a stream of smoke flowed from under the bonnet . Anyway, it seemed to idle really high, so I drove it to ford. Anyway, they tell me it's a common problem, and that "a cap" had come off near the turbo, and needed to put back on. Fixed in 30 minutes! What's this all about, anyone know?
  4. Ok, can you believe this... After 10,000k's mine has started to do this!!! I just filled up (Optimax as usual) and started to drive on the freeway... I looked down, shook my head, looked again.. and yep... only half a tank?? What the.... I pulled over because I thought that I left the cap off, and spilled half a tank of fuel out during the last corner... No so! Anyway about one and a half hours later it read close to full. It's only happened once, however I'll be adding this to my long list of problems
  5. You didn't push your right foot through the firewall at the same time did you  I'm sorry I shouldn't laugh, but hey... that is one funny story. I wouldn't want to meet you in a dark ally if your ripping gear sticks from their mountings. Anyway, I hope it's not too expensive to fix.
  6. No problems with that, and nor has my plastic clip mealted??? I must be kind to it?
  7. I know you said Easter, but when is it, and where exactly?? Yeah, yeah, I know I've been living under rock Thanks
  8. Little problems aside.... (except brakes) Come from an AU XR8 200kW, and this car is muuuuuuuuuch better. Real road, it drives smoother, sure a little less "out of the hole" power (similar power spread to like my brothers 5.7 SS, but strong mid and top end) On the Track, is where you notice the big differences, the handling is GREAT!!!. The balance is a big improvement to any V8 I've driven, you don't get that annoying understeer you have with the V8's Hope these comments help....
  9. Guys, good chance me and the mrs will come... I'll let you know closer to the date
  10. Mal, I wouldn't take this thread to heart. You've met us Sydney people at the dyno day, surly you can see this is not indicative of the site. We may see a little verbal keyboard warrior action in threads where peoples commercial and technical abilities are questioned, but this is all good news for us consumers. I'd prefer the companies modifying XR6T to shoot it out here, then at LS1 or another site. As a consumer, I'd want to know as much about each others offerings before making a purchase. Anyway, I hope to see you at a few fordxr6turbo crusies and get togethers that are happening. esky Nothing personal against anyone in particular.... We just seem to be going around in circles... I find it disappointing that we have an "I'm smarter than you mentality" happening! If we all know so much, why doesn't someone just say, "I don't agree with your comments because this is what I have found in my experience........" Rather know best because I scored A+ in my latest test.... We all share the same passion for the car... and all extremely keen to get it going quicker... and given the level of "intelligence" that we have at a collective level I'm sure we could all create some seriously quick XR6T Anyway I'm just venting...... End of the day... "I can't get enough of this" :D
  11. My God! How this site has changed Guess I'll be hanging around back at Ford Forums. Dare anyone say the wrong thing... Someone please PM me when I can get the go fast bits that have "actually" been REVIEWED!
  12. I have........... XRT 04L Can you believe I picked them up around February!! (NSW Plates)
  13. Given that the car has 450Nm of torque, these ratios's probably aren't too bad What I have noticed, is if you rev the motor up in the Auto (brake and accelerator) and then let the brake go and punch your right foot to the floor, the back wheels will break traction, and it will take off like a rocket. Either way, I'd like to see the Manual and Auto side by side, say out at Eastern Creek Drags one night

    300kw Gts

~200rwkW Manual, ~185 rwkW Auto Incidentally, my 200kW (Auto) AU XR8 was 130rwkW. My XR6T (Auto) is 186rwkW…. figure that? So if the drivetrain took about 70kW in the old XR8, and I said the XR6T used up 70kw also, then the XR6T has around 255kW... the plot thickens
  15. In my personal experience if they are warped once, they will warp again. It must have something to do with the grade of metal used in the discs???? but I don't know. Anyway, mine was machined, and the problem has come back much, much worse! I'd advise anyone to really put their own brakes through a thorough test. I tow a boat, and haven't yet had the pleasure, or pain, to tow it with the BA down any steep hills. Given this situation with the brakes, I am VERY concerned to say the least
  16. The filter was not attached, just the top lifted, and the air able to flow straight through. This gave about a 5kW increase, and the pod filter gave about a 4kW increase. So I would say that it is a combination of both the air box and the filter (But probably more the air box, as the filter seems to be quite light, and probably fairly free flowing)
  17. Basically the Auto's were 185rwkW (3rd Gear) and the Manuals 200rwkW (4th Gear) (3 Auto's and I think 3 Manuals were run???)
  18. Brown??? That doesn't sound good? Maybe you have one of the engine blocks that have been sitting on the floor of the ford workshop for 12 months??? Just joking, but I think brown is not good. Mine has done 8000k's and is still bright green
  19. What was actually done to it???
  20. It was a great day, and good to see all the XRT's in one place!! Thanks Esky for organising it! The power from mine was 186.5kW... Oh, I was the guinea pig too, first one. I was over the moon with the power at the wheels, considering my old 200kW AUXR8 made 130 at the wheels... 186 is amazing!!! :D Anyway, what was surprising was seeing how much extra power was made by lifting the top of the air filter up... a Manual I think PSI04L's, peaked at 201kw, and when the air box lid was lifted up made 206kw. A 5kW increase!!! I think in the end, with a pod filter it increased to 204kW?? I'm sure more will be said about this. Given that the ECU did not stop the power due to the extra air into the motor, I suspect given a good 3" (or 3.5") exhaust we should see an increase too. End of the day... I am stoked... 186.5kW from an Auto! :D :D :D
  21. What sh*ts me, is why the hell did they change the brakes from the old AU XR8 anyway. I never had a problem with those. These brakes are the worst I have ever seen. Sure they stop you, and do it quite well, but if you have to stop quite a few times that's when the problem starts! As soon as they get some heat into them they warp. They don't even get a chance to fade, and even if there was fade you wouldn't be able to tell over the shudder it causes I agree with the option of DBA, and the guy who looks after my car suggested that, however shouldn't the point be that Ford at least produce brakes that work on the car that they were designed to STOP! :nugget: This is a 240kW 1800kg family sedan!
  22. Ok, after 7500k's these are mine 1. Oil leak from Diff (not resolved) 2. Boot leak (resolved) 3. Door trim screws, and various screw caps missing (resloved) 4. Wiper blade nut cap missing (resolved) 5. Chip in paint, pre-delivery (resolved, but need to re-apply paint protection) 6. Centre console material bubbling (resolved) 7. Driver door trim damaged, pre-delivery (not resolved) 8. Alternator Whine (not resolved) 9. High Speed whistle (now heard at low speed) with windows up only! Windscreen rubber lifted(Not resolved) 10. Disk Brakes warped!!!!!! (Machined once, back again, not resolved) THIS IS GIVING ME THE sh*tS TOO! 11. Seat bases broken (resolved, not broken again, yet) This is what I can think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure there is more. As you can imagine, I'm not to impressed about this, and if the car didn't go as good as it does I'd be one very, very unhappy camper!
  23. You could probably get insurance, but I would say it would be very expensive! Eastern Creek is pretty open actually, and if your going to come off into a wall, then your probably not the type of person that should be driving your car there anyway (on Track Days that is). Nothing against you personally, I would not like to be driving on the track with someone that is going to be "racing" around the track The track days are normally pretty good, and what makes them good is that there are few people trying to "prove" how good their cars are to someone else. If you are much faster than someone else, then most people will see you coming and pull right over and let you pass. If you take it easy you wont need insurance. I've been quite a few times, and never once even come close to coming of the track. You should come out and have a look at what happens next time it's on, I'm sure you see what I mean then
  24. 1976 ZH Fairlane (owned in 2000). I think it was the size of your average 3 bedroom housing commision house  and the boot was the garden shed Anyway, it was fully restored... I'm sure you get the picture It had to go, we had one garage, and 2 cars. The other was a 323 BMW, and the mrs said, do we really "need" the Fairlane. Who am I to disagree... anyway, it had to go. A few years later we have the XR6T, and some how it seems all worth it. :D
  25. Coming from an AUXR8, Auto, to this, XR6T Auto... the take off is disappointing, no questions asked. Sure you can rev it up, and yes it does take off much quicker, but I'd rather just plant the foot. And yes this car, once it hits say 30km/h, is quick.... very quick, and leaves many people impressed. However I can understand the poor low down response. Personally I'm on a "half hearted" mission to improve mine... I'm hoping an exhaust change will help?? Anyone know how to get more torque down low without pulling out the six and putting in an 8?
