  1. He did give it to an SS UTE on the way home. To see and hear the SS at full noise, puffing black smoke between gear changes and screaming in pain, and the XRT pulling away was quite a site. (I wonder how much "extra" oil the SS guy burnt doing that? ) Did I mention that Andrew drove it like he stole it..  Just joking
  2. I get a whistle/buzzing noise that sounds like it's coming through the radio, however it happens even if the radio is off. Ford tell me it's the Turbo, but the noise sounds electrical You can hear it best if it's quite, or on the freeway anyone else?
  3. I must say, things have come a long way from the first meeting, which I think 2 people (which I was one) from the fordxr6turbo.com site were there. Anyway good to see the turn out. So after seeing all the cars, who's going debadge their car, get new mags, 3 inch exhaust, sat nav and change their colour to Citric Acid??
  4. OK I posted that msg on Friday... it was a long week Basically what I'm talking about is if you have the AC set to blow on the front window, say to demist it, and then switch the AC off, it switches to fresh air. So if you switch it to recycled it switches the AC back on! You can't just simply turn the AC off and turn it from fresh air to recycled, so you have no air coming in or blowing at all, without turning the demist setting to something else. Do I make sense... it must be me, Fords AC is not idiot proof, or it was, but I'm just a better idiot!
  5. Ok, finished what I had to do, so we (the wife and I) will be there tomorrow. I'll see all you guys there.
  6. This drives me nuts... and I actually consider it quite dangerous Try this Set Temp to AC/MAX and press front demister (so AC air flow is directed to the front window) Turn the air speed to about halfway. Now turn the whole system off, ensuring that it's recycled, so the outside air can not get into the cabin.
  7. How much does your "standard" BOV sell for, or what is the price range?
  8. Just thought I'd add another comment. The 220 V8 (used in the XT etc) has 470nm of torque, and I understand that they use the same Auto and Manual as our Turbo... why is the Turbo limited the 450nm then???
  9. When looking at the instantaneous figure you'll normally see ltrs/km but if your not moving it switches to ltrs/hr (XRT anyway)
  10. Ok, this has been thrashed out before. But does anyone now "know" what the difference between the, soon to arrive, Auto in the XR8 and the Auto in the XRT Is it the same box but with stronger internals, or a different box altogether?
  11. Mal, you'd be wanting a 50kw shot of NOS to get your XR off the mark! That will sort out the bottom end issue. Especially with my backside in it
  12. Average city/highway 13.2-13.5ltrs/100km (12,000km on the clock). I tend to put my foot down a bit in the city, I can't get enough of it :D Highway only, less than 10ltrs/100km (Cruise control on, up/down the F3) Anyway, I've had 98ltrs/100km instantaneous!!!! Just keep looking down for longer (Not recommended!! )
  13. Don't worry Mondie, in a few months you will have 290kw of bottom end!!! When that thing loosens up a bit you wont need any chips or filters! Lucky BUGGER Ok, I don't have the APS thing... I'd love to, but think I'll be waiting a good year or more to see what happens. However I miss the bottom end of the old V8, but at the same time the XRT does get better the more kms you have on it (but I could just be getting use to it??) I would have agreed with Mondie, in saying that I'm looking for more bottom end, 0-40km/h than mid or top. So APS, IMO, may not be the best choice??? or have I missed something here?
  14. OK, I'm trying to come... I am! However I'm not going to know until Saturday Afternoon. As for the BBQ, given that I'll be only able to give very short notice, we'll have to say no. However if we come can we bring our own meat? (Just don't want to say yes, and than not able to come)
  15. Yes, and this happened on my old AU as well... take it back and they will fix it... Mine has been fixed, but don't know what they did. While reaching in for the shopping bags :o , cold water down the back of your neck is not a good feeling I know!
  16. The oil hasn't been changed yet, maybe it should be??? I didn't like the idea of it being in there that long, but the oil topic has been talked about in some depth before. I'm thinking a re-turn was done at the first service?? but I was curious what others have from a warm car at idle?
  17. $530 for the sound.... holy crap! Anyway, not that I'm going to spend that much on sound, but is it a whoosh/pissst sound or a flutter sound? Thanks mate
  18. Can anyone comment on this... I actually meant to raise this some time ago Anyway At idle the ltrs/hour was 1.0 (no accessories on (including AC), and in Neutral) after about 30 seconds of idle. This was before the 3000km check, now I'm using around 1.6 to 2ltrs/hour?? I have 12,000kms on the clock. Can you guys check, what are you reading, and what could have happened here... general driving fuel consumption has decreased slightly, but idle has increased?
  19. Ok, now the question is... does the Ute have a similar muffler setup to the Sedan? (Obviously the entire exhaust would be slightly different, but are the mufflers the same?)
  20. How do you know this, just that my guess is to remove the centre muffler, but actually don't know anyone who has done it. Do you know first hand, or are you like me, taking the logical choice Thanks
  21. Ripped off. I've been waiting for close to a month to read what these guys had done with the XRT test car they have. Last issue they said they were going to make a few changes to the exhaust and report on them Bugger They didn't and instead they talked about the motor... which I'm sure most people had read a dozen times before. Anyway, now they say they are going to have the exhaust done next issue!! Zoom's a great mag, but come on guys, I'm waiting for your valuable input.. should I remove the centre muffler, or put in a 3 1/2 inch from the cat back?? I need help!
  22. I have just a couple of comments 1. Different Dyno (but could this equal a 10kw difference?) 2. Taking out the rear exhaust would have improved power. my old AUXR8 increased by about 5kw, and that was a non-turbo! So an extra 15rwkw could have been quite possible on a different dyno, and with the rear exhaust removed (not to meantion different air temp etc) Either way, this car is a beast!
  23. So given all these comments that there is really nothing to worry about, "these days", what were the biggest problems with Turbo's years ago? And why did they get such a bad wrap?
  24. Was it replaced from the Cat back, or before the Cat? Just curious, thinking about the same
  25. Just more of a comment then anything Back quite a few years ago (10-15 years that is) if you said the word Turbo everyone would cringe (my V8 push rod type mates that is) and the comments would inevitably come out like... A turbo is very bad, bad for the motor, and just not going to last the distance. Hearing horror stories of Turbo's self destructing, and destroying motors always put me off. Seeing an XR6T Taxis the other day I thought is this guy must be nuts, how long will it last in a Taxis? Ok, now that was then, and I assume that Turbo's have improved over the past decade... (I hope so since I have one) so how long should these things last (The Turbo's in the XR6T that is) Anyone know the main differences between the Turbo's produced a decade ago, and the ones today, and expected life span? (Personal experience would be good)
