  1. The old AU XR8 had a whine in 1st gear, and I thought that it would have been a lot quieter in the BA, but unfortunately it's the same Does anyone know how to quieten this down, different oil maybe?
  2. Is it that Valve Spring people are talking about??
  3. :(
  4. So now I'm right , , :D , ,
  5. OK, let's make sure I have this right. Higher Octane fuel in our XR6T's will produce more power because of it's inherent abilities, not by the amount you will be able to advance the ignition timing. Oh and for "ante", Thank You XR6TK1W1 for your comments :D
  6. 4th in Manual mode is exactly the same as 4th in Auto, right down to the torque converter, which is engaged even in manual! Actually you'll notice it comes on in 3rd too!!! If you're reading off the instantaneous measurements it would be very hard to tell if one uses more than the other. I'd personally say it's the same and maybe it's coincidence that it appears different
  7. I was under the impression that the timing would advance until it started pinging (or at least on the verge of), in which case I assume the timing would be turned back a bit?? I also thought that a knock sensor would be the only real way of detecting higher octane levels?? And also, I thought that octane only gave you the extra benefit by being able to advance the timing, but sure other benefits may exist through the cleansing agents, but that would reduce over time?? In any case, does anyone know what the timing is advanced to using PULP, and what is left? For some reason I remember reading that the timing could advance by 10 deg, and retard by 50. But if you use PULP, and it advances to the full 10 deg higher octane would do squat?? unless I'm wrong and it advances to say 5 or 8???
  8. Ok, my understanding is that the Knock Sensor is used to retard timing if ULP is used, and advance if PULP (or High Octane) is used. Sooooo, if one uses "higher Octane" say 102 (instead of 98) is the ECU going to advance the timing further, and add even more power?? If so by how much?
  9. Yep for sure this is the hose thing! When I was in the dealer having mine fixed, another guy bought his in with the same problem... seems common. I think it's some breather hose, nothing major??? Anyway, if it hasn’t happened to you I'd suggest getting a clamp put on during your next service. It happened to me on the Friday before a long weekend, just before we were going away :spacecraft: Anyway it's fixed!
  10. After 2 machining jobs, they replaced the discs. The shudder returned again, and this time the Service Manager called Ford in Melbourne and explained that the shudder had returned. They instructed this dealership to replace both the discs and the Hub. I don't know if the Hub is also a cause of the shudder, or if Ford had replaced the Hub because of what damage the shudder could have caused to it?
  11. Why would Ford say that they need to replace the whole hub assembly?... does this mean that just replacing your discs may not fix the problem??? Also, if that retaining spring is faulty, is this likely to warp the new discs, be it DBA or original Ford Discs anyway? Now I'm really worried
  12. That seems strange, because the warped discs don't seem to happen just by driving around. Maybe they are talking about the handbrake dragging? I had my discs replaced again. This time I was told that they replaced the whole hub, not just the disc?? I thought the Disc and Hub were one unit. They couldn't be talking about the axle assembly could they? Anyway, the shudder is gone again, and this time I'll be heating them up ASAP and see if I get shudder or fade, and also make sure it goes away once they cool down!
  13. The diff in the XR6T actually has a sticker that says XR8 on it
  14. That sounds like a good option! Can you tell me if you replaced the pads also. I'm pretty sure it's only the discs, but is there a chance the pads can be causing the problems too?? I'm seriously looking at doing something with mine too!
  15. If I were to replace them myself, what is the going price. I don't want anything over the top, just a good set, similar to the ones on my old AU XR8. And has anyone replaced them?
  16. Just realised that the V8 Supercars are on at Oran Park 17th August. I can't miss that! Sorry I'll have to give this one a miss :(
  17. My front bar has dropped about a centimetre and has now collected a driveway All it's done is scratched the bottom (nothing else) My question is, how can I get it to sit where it's meant to. It's only dropped by the original centimetre, but you can notice the gap. Has anyone removed their front bar, or tightened theirs up? Is this easy to do, and can I just tighten a few bolts?
  18. Not that I leave it in N, but it stops the gearbox taking up the load if you park on a slight hill. I normally pull the handbrake up, take my foot of the brake pedal, then just sit it in N for a couple of seconds, then move it to Park and turn it off. Stops the "Clunk" when you move it from Park to Drive
  19. Gee, I don't like the look under the bonnet. The standard intake looks much neater. But then again, 9rwkW is probably worth it
  20. OH MY GOD!!!!! It's farken happened again!!!! The first down hill drive since the brakes were replaced by Ford, now the damn shudder is BACK! This has seriously given me the Sh!ts!! What should I do?? Help me please!
  21. Mine's Nov 02, it's straight through. By the way, I haven't been tempted to stick ANYTHING in MY rear muffler.... (Although the Mrs said I would if thought I could get away with it!! )
  22. So much for my question
  23. VCT is timing, "lumpy Cam's" refer to lift. Unless I'm mistaken? I'm just thinking about this out loud really, and what, if any benefit would you have?
  24. I'm not thinking about doing it... not in the near future anyway, just wondering if it's still done in general
  25. Many years ago I owned a 1984 Nissan TRX bluebird. Anyway after many hours/kms of hard driving something bad happened to the motor but as it turned out it was a good thing. A total rebuild was called for (I told you it was bad) and I ended up putting in a "lumpy Cam". After a few mods to the carby (remember those) and timing gear (remember adjusting that too) I had the car back on the road. Well blow me if it didn't improve things!! Anyway, is this something that you do to cars like ours today?? Twin Overhead Cam jobbies I mean??
