  1. This is going to sound very strange, but driving in the heat on Saturday my XR6T has never ran so good. Traction control come on from a standing start first time ever... It felt much quicker (but I have changed the fuel to Optimax, and it was the first good run after a weak of short city only trips... )

Just my 2c... and based on 2500km. After 1500km (run on Synergy 8000 or Optimax) the car was great. Anyway, after those tanks run out I've been filling up with BP Premium... both my wife and I have been commenting on how the car doesn't pull from standing start like it use to (about 2000km)... anyway we thought it was just the case that we have done a lot of city driving and not putting our foot down. Anyway we have filled the last 2 tanks with Optimax, and holy crap, it now pulls hard, very hard. I found out later that the BP premium is only 95, not 98. Now it's little difference however it adds a hell of a lot to standing start power... maybe it advances the timing more when your foot is flat?? I don't know? Either way it's going to drink Optimax or Synergy 8000 from now on
  3. I've noticed that a lot of small runs dramatically increases fuel... after a week of short runs (city) I was up over 20ltr/100km!!!
  4. Yep, that what happens.... there is a plastic part that sticks out, which is suppose to take the weight (this is above the screw part)... however if its pushed on an angle, like when you get in or out of the car it pop's off, and then all the weight is on the screw and surround, once it's on there the screw surround breaks very easy
  5. I've had both Manual and Auto cars... (The Auto in the AU was utter crap) As a result I was going the manual.... however... after driving the Auto with SSS for a bit, it was a dream to have the SSS. This box is great. It's actually a full clutchless manual, and torque converter comes on in 3rd gear, and 4th... so it feels like you have a car that has 6 gears... you can drive in 3rd with the torque converter engaged, and put your foot down, it then releases the torque converter and gives you more power (higher revs)... this is hard to explain... but this box is very smart. And I think if you really want to make more changes to it... like locking reverse and drive, to increase revs and then take off you'll be able to some time down the track (I know you can do this with other Auto's) Anyway, just my 2 cents
  6. Guys I'm just wondering if you have had any problems with the plastic side piece on the bottom of your seat. This is the part where you are able to adjust the height. Mine keeps "clicking" out slightly, and now as a result has broken the plastic around the screw. This has now happened to both Passenger and Driver seat :( If you sit on the seat sideways, with both legs out the door it will break for sure. Just be careful if it hasn't broken on yours yet, because I'm sure it will given time. I'll be talking to ford about this on my first service
  7. It was the first thing I noticed when it was washed!. It's not the best. I suppose it's a cheap way of putting on a spoiler kit these days though.
  8. Drive to Wollongong and back on the last day of the first long weekend after Christmas.... No way... can you imagine the traffic coming back to Sydney on Monday Afternoon... My God... I love the sound of the XR6T, even at idle... but idling for hours I'll learn to dislike it very quickly I'm all in for another drive soon... but I'll have to give this one a miss
  9. Good luck... you'll love it... coming from an AUXR8 (200kW)... this car is worth every cent!
  10. Born 24/12/02 - done 2500kms... I'm always dying to get in it and drive it... give me more god damn it!
  11. Are you really going to get an unbiased opinion from "fordxr6tubo.com" B) Anyway, if Ford was able to get 220kW from an old 5ltr (250kW's from the stroked version), where Expensive Daewoo was only able to drag out 215kW in GTS form from the same style of engine, and 175/185 in the SS, I'd say bring on the Boss... Expensive Daewoo will have to do something very special with both the V6 and V8 to score points.... It was Media hype that killed the AU... it was a great car to drive, and it had the power on tap, not a problem Also, as I have said before, the XR6T eats SS's for breakfast!.... so who's up for a buffet breakfast...
  12. Just curious... given that the "Blow Off Valve" in these cars vent back into the air intake, would I be right in saying that this air had been compressed and as a result is hot air... and given that when you change gears, (auto or manual), some air is vented. Are you then sucking in hot air, for a split second, that is going to be compressed again and heated again. I'm asking this because would you notice any difference if you could vent the air away from the intake, and hence suck some fresh (colder) air... would this increase initial throttle response when changing gears??? or it's so short you wouldn't notice?? I'm thinking that heated air may retard timing, just when you want it to be advanced???... this would have to be the case with most Turbo (with VCT also), regardless of the type of car (assuming they vent the same of course)
  13. XR6T's was myself and Simon (don't know his member ID), and quite a few other XR..XR6's, 8's EL/EF and AU's... I think even an XW was there. It was quite a good run... I did remember my digital camera...... when I was about 20 mins from home, so I couldn't take any pics myself. However there are a sh*t load of pics on the fordforums site under the topic "on the road". There were bonnets lifted.. as always.. so I did get to see the mealted clip people are talking about... To add to that I must say Simon has a great looking car.. Silver, and it works well in the flesh. It was well worth it, and had the weather been a touch better it would have been a very interesting Day. Great to meet some new people who love the XR's too!
  14. That almost sounds like the rev limiter coming in... did the power drop when it was popping?
  15. I had similar problems with the Ford dealer close to me.. This was for my old AUXR8, I was not going to buy a Ford again because of it... and this will be the last time if I ever get that again!! I wouldn't have accepted anything other than a loan car... they could have hired one for you.... anyway I hope it's sorted out for you quickly
  16. it was like....yeah :D yeah :D hurry hurry, I know accelerator, break... yeah some other stuff just give me my keys, I'll call you if I'm missing anything...hurry hurry... thank you bye.. :D
  17. I have an auto and have noticed it... very slight but... not enough to nearly spill a drink though.... that seems excessive. I don't know if it's the Turbo or the Electronic Throttle... if it's a step type... which it'll have to be, then maybe it's between steps?? but I don't know how many steps there are... and they are probably not linear... maybe more steps closer to idle then full throttle??? who know but?
  18. I have a little experience with engine immobilises... installing a couple to cars a few years ago... they could have changed now though. Basically it's a relay that hangs off the alarm... mounted discreetly, it interrupts the wires to the starter motor. If the alarm goes off the relay essentially "open circuits" the starting trigger (wire) to the starter motor... now at saying that there could be many variations on this such as a relay that sits between the fuel pump, and/or relay that sits between power to the injectors... basically anywhere that would stop the engine from starting... it's not a given that the car could not be started, it would just take someone that wants it longer to start it... simply because they would have to find the relay that controls the break. Hope this info helps (this is for aftermarket alarms, but the Ford Alarm may be intergrated into the ECU somehow??)
  19. My in-laws got a dinner out when they bought their $20,000 lancer, and we get a complimentary box of tissues for a car worth close to 50k..... what the
  20. Scott, Just out of curiosity for myself, and of course others, just a couple of additional questions 1. Did the boost actually increase at lower revs... and if you know, what was the increase...eg before 2000 - 2psi, after 2000 3psi 2. How high did you run the boost, and why did you think it was going to break... was it pinging, or making strange noises?? Thanks mate
  21. Scott52, This was on the XR6T right??? and did you run a boost gauge also?
  22. Can you tell me where I can find a good website that explains more about this?? Any additional info would be great
  23. When we picked up the XR6T we drove it from Sydney to Castle Hill, and took it quite easy. Anyway, the smell from the car was terrible...and when we stopped at a set of traffic lights there was even some smoke from the bonnet. I stopped and had a quick look, but couldn't really see anything... anyway to cut a long story short it stopped doing it only after about 100kms on the clock... however every now and then I can still smell something strange (2500kms). I assume this will go away sooner or later
  24. Auto 1st gear will get you around 70k's... unless you seriously flog the guts out of it... but I'd be pretty sure it wouldn't go to 100 anyway
  25. If they rub together for some time would the pipes wear??? Anyway mines fine... maybe the ones that have melted have given their cars a hard time then just switched it off?? I don't know I'm just speculating?
