    Brake Pad Poll

Changed my stuffed Ferodos and dba4000's with 50k on them. Pads were well and truely toast.
  2. Very funny at first but kinda drags out a bit.
  3. I've had issues similar when I had old tyres with plenty of wear on the rear and new tyres fitted to the front. Traction control light flashes under acceleration with no wheel spin etc. When I put two new tyres on the rear all fixed. My problem is just simply due to tyre rolling diameter being different and playing with the TC. Yours could be different though.
  4. My suggestion would be to scrap your dump pipe, standard cat and centre muffler and replace with a nice 4 inch dump to high flow cat and then split into two to match up with the standard rear section. Obviously it depends on how much power you wanna run.
  5. The rotors should look like this when installed. I've just put my second set on with Ferodo pads.
  6. Have you thought about getting the car an engineering certificate and see if the insurance company will accept that. Lowering cars is a huge issue when trying to get insurance. Ultimately I myself have chosen to run the risk and tell them it's only 30mm lower.
  7. If I did this would it be a power gaining exercise and would the car haved to be edited as I assume it would be a intake modification of more air in What types of gains would I expect if it was a power gaining mod. Cheers Jason ← I would be very hesitant about removing the butterfly setup within the intake runners. This setup is designed to give the runner length at low down revs to produce torque. Once the engine gets past a certain rpm the butteryflies open allowing a short intake length and maximum power. If this mod was done a retune would have to be performed and even then I doubt it would be better.
  8. Individual throttle bodies like the GTR but still using a variable length intake runner would be a good option. Nice high flow exhaust as well. The real way to make good power would probably be machining things with very fine tolerances and smooth surfaces.
  9. Something like this I'm guessing your after.
  10. If the Orion is to be released in 08 wouldn't the car be fairly close to being finished in regards to design etc? They are probably working on things further ahead. They way I see it cars are only going to get heavier as safety and peoples requirments for incar facilities gets greater and greater. I would like to see the weight go down and power go up but I find that unlikely. Just hope they make the new Orion look the goods and perform well.
  11. Like anything you get out what you put in. If you drive the car and don't particularly care about performance then 91ron fuel will do. Some people on here I understand wont have a choice though due to the availability of premium in rural areas.
  12. Aren't the tyres that come standard on 18's 245/40/18? The Non Turbo 17's are 235/45/17 and Turbo are 245/45/17. I could be wrong...
  13. Whenever I park on a hill it's always handbrake on first and let it take the weight and then put into park. That's when the handbrake works.
  14. With the king springs SL front and SSL rear on 18" wheels with 245's I think you'll find the XR is very close to 100mm if not right on. I think the exhaust is the thing that comes the closest to the ground just under the rear seats. 100mm is really not that low when you see that the rest of the car is higher than the exhaust.
  15. I think this is a sign from above, leave it out.
  16. Well done NOS XR. You've probably stated this before but what times are you running down the quarter, had any gearbox problems yet?
  17. I wouldn't suggest just removing your centre muffler, been there done that. Power increase I would say is very little if any at all. The car will sound good under load but give it a free rev sitting still and you'll hear a very disgusting raspy crackly note. Due to the engine being a twin cam n/a this makes the exhaust note sound very average. Installing a hot dog or the like might change this though and prove to be a good idea. My suggestion would be get a hot dog and maybe get rid of the cat or go with the turbo system.
  18. If you add some 4000 series rotors and ferodo pads then you'll be happy I'm sure. Other pads to consider might be RB74's. I have the ferodo's and they might squeel once every now and then but not much at all. If you don't take the car to the track then this brake setup will be plenty good enough. As for the extra torque you will be putting through the gearbox after an edit then there is no doubt it will effect it's life span. The 4 speed auto was only made to handle the 450nm that's why they are the week point. But like anything when it comes to reliabilty you'll get back what you put in. Get a better grade transmission oil, change it reqularly, possibly a trans cooler and with your driving style it should last you for quite a while.
  19. I run 42 in the fronts and 38 in the rears but with 18's. If I run too high pressures in the rears you get quite a bit more difficulty getting traction and makes the back end squirm around alot more under hard cornering.
  20. Think you might be right with the stripes idea. I've seen a couple up Newcastle way as well, XR8's and all.
  21. I love the sound of a screamer pipe but your looking to get defected if you run one on the street. A mate of mine is running one on his Datsun temporarily and like I said it sounds great but I think the exhaust gases are swirling up into the windows making it a very smelly car to drive.
  22. The SSL's make the car very close to being illegal I think you'll find. The minimum height allowed by the RTA is 100mm from the road to any fixed part of the vehicle. When I had standard SSL's in my car the measurement was pretty close to right on 100mm from the ground to the exhaust heat shield.

    Stock M5

That would have been a sight to see. Simply awesome cars the M5. Did the guy seem like he was looking to modify or just interested to see the figures? Would have sounded like s#x on wheels doing the run.
  24. I think there is something suss with the first vid as well. The indicated speed seems much faster that actual speed. When he brings the front wheel down at 140mph the lines on the road aren't passing very quick at all.
  25. Lownds did the right thing by cutting the corner. This was the safest option without risking damage to himself and Ingall. There was no way he could have made the turn. The penalty that was issued was rediculous and should only have been to make Lownds give up the position to Ingall not a drive through. All in all I think the track is a sh1t of track with very little opportunities to pass and very little safety areas for mistakes. One thing that was quite clear was Expensive Daewoo had their settings right and had some fast cars on the day.
