  6. G'day everyone, I did a service at home on my turbo xr, just a change of oil and filter, check all fluids, the usual stuff, (refused to pay ford to do the same thing that I can do) I noticed paint flaking on the turbo intercooler plenum so I thought I would remove the intercooler pipes and check everything out, as it turns out there was flaking paint around the ports of the plenum. So I removed the intercooler pipes and broke off the paint around the ports and made sure there was no debri inside the pipes. I replaced and tightened everything up, but replaced one of those self clamping hose clamps with a screw to tighten one. Ever since doing this I have noticed a big increase in power, and turbo blow off flutter like on a jap imported car which never was so noticeable before. (Don't like the turbo flutter) Does anyone have any explanation for this? Jeremy
  7. G'day everyone, I am just wondering if any of you know wether or not there is an acutal piece of programming in the BA Falcons that makes the car thirstier to run just before its due to get a service. After receiving a quote for a minor 75,000km service ($375), I decided to do the service myself since what they slug for the service is nothing short of robbery. So I changed the oil and filter and checked everything and now the car runs at 11 - 12L/100kms on the highway at 110km/h. I'm just wondering if maybe the car requires a "computer check" so to speak which would normally be done by ford during the service? Having this requirement obviously is a way to ensure the customers return to dealerships no doubt. Not fair! Cheers Jero
  8. G'day everyone, recently in the cold weather that we have been having I have noticed that my XR6T is idling higher then usual (950 or so revs in neutral and 800 roughly in drive). Also the temperature guage is often under 1/4 even after driving for hours. I think the car has been going through a fair bit more fuel then usual lately aswell. Just wondering if maybe the engine isnt getting hot enough and therefore the "Engine Computer Choke" so to speak is still on??? On the highway the instant fuel consumption reading is rarely under 10L/100km's and is often in the 11's. Any ideas??? Cheers Jero GTech tested 14.12 @ 103.9mph over the 1/4 with 2 people in the car... Not bad for an "untouched" XR6T I would think...
  9. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!! Carbon fiber and NOS belongs on rice!!! A tough GT should have a much more powerfull V8 engine Ford can do that with the current 5.4L engine they just havent yet because they are spending all their time concentrating on the 6Cyl cars. And the Car just needs to be lightened up a bit and then it will be one hell of a rocket.
  10. For those comparing your XR6 Turbo fuel consumption to any late model Expensive Daewoo 6 cylinder orientated vehicle, remember a few things, Commodores have a larger fuel tank (75L) giving the impression you get more mileage until you pay for a fill up and it costs $15 more, Falcons do not run out when at 50kms on the range like some on the other side they have a small reserve (smart thing to do) for safety reasons and fuel pump life, and they are a 4L engine with 240+kw not like a Late model camira engine... Just my two bobs worth. For an XR6 Turbo to get around 300 - 400kms out of a tank around town would be normal I think, and around 600 on the highway aswell. And if you really didnt want such a fuel consumption why oh why did you buy a Turbocharged 4 Litre vehicle with more power then some V8's? Remember you could be driving a girly 4 Cylinder front wheel drive Fiesta that cant tow anything or comfortably seat 5 people, or carry a fair amount of luggage or overtake a lot quicker, or has barbie doll guages or... or... or... But if you wouldnt have it any other way XR6T and 300 - 400kms to a tank around town... I think you guys know what you'd prefer... Personally I find if you drive an XR6T like a limo, easy on the throttle, you will get reasonably good mileage. And most people forget that driving an XR6T even sedately is still faster then the average family sedan. Cheers
  11. Ok so where is the cable tie supposed to go? Anyone got any photos of a fix for this problem? Any help would be appreciated... Jeremy
  12. Well my seating position is fairly close to the wheel (about half way between fully back and fully forward as I hate having my arms outstretched from the steering wheel. And the seat is at its lowest position. The steering wheel is fully extended towards myself and the wheel is at its highest level. Seems the steering column plastics in the BA onwards have gotten bulkier and the ignition barrel is lower then before giving less room for taller people's legs. Jeremy On another subject does anyone else have loud clunks in their power windows especially at the front when the windows get to the bottom? Have had my windows repaired twice now to no avail, seems some foam block keeps falling out allowing metal to metal or something. Jeremy
  13. G'day everyone, ever since I have owned my XR6T I have been getting a sore right ankle due to the crappy new layout of the brake and throttle pedal. My ankle is on a sharp angle when I apply the brakes and almost slips of the pedal, the only way to straighten my foot on the pedal is to straighten my whole leg but then my knee hits the keys and I have even managed to accidentally turn the engine off once. I have tried everything to get a good seating position so my feet press the pedal/s properly but just cant. So does anyone know if I can get power adjustable pedals installed since I didnt order them when I signed up to buy the car? I'm hoping that this could help the problem. I think the brake pedal is way oversized aswell which means my foot touches the pedal in the cup of my foot instead of more towards the toes. Jeremy
  14. Ok ok, this is not a comparison of shoe sizes now, I really do think Ford have made a big mistake with the new layout of the pedals, steering wheel alignment with the dash etc. I have never witnessed a sore ankle due to driving ANY car before until now... But anyway... Oh while I am here, I have brake shudder (4th Machining coming up I take it, but have heard rumours of "revised brake pads" being fitted to cars... Do you guys think I have a right to demand new brake rotors? since obviously the wrong type of brake pad was fitted in the first place? Jero
  15. G'day fellas, I have found that ever since I have taken ownership of my XR6T, I have been getting a sore right ankle due to the new layout of the pedals, I have big feet (size 12) and always find myself having to maneuvre my right foot to make up for the little room between the throttle and the abnormally large brake pedal... Is there anyway I could rectify this, it almost seems as though the brake pedal is much to high in relation to the throttle pedal and when I apply the brakes its like my foot is on a big angle almost ready to slip of the pedal onto the floor rather then resting flat on the pedal. Why did ford go and play around with a previously fine pedal layout??? (I never had this problem in my EB Falcon) Jeremy
