Yeah I'm just over it. Purchased high pressure and high temp o rings today and put some heat shielding up to mount it on as the location it is in that little filter gets sh*t hot!. Took it for a drive with a combination of stop start and open road over 2 hours and it still had no leaks so I'm hoping its fixed. I didn't have time to wash the engine bay today as I had to get back to work ASAP so with another 500 trip ahead of me I parked it up as is til I get back next week. Then ill give it a big going over. Cheers guys.

What an epic week. I punched a shock through the tower on my f truck so had to fix it after work lastnight before heading across to Newcastle to pick the trailer up and then load the g6 on and head to liverpool for these repairs to be repaired. Hit a Roo on my way home so my f truck has a slightly dented bar and my led light bar was left dragging along the road (still works though!). Picked the trailer up when I finally got to Newcastle and then headed to my place to pick up the g6... The bloody ramps were too short to get my car on!. Returned the trailer to find out I won't get a cent of my $140 back despite only having it for 1hr. So stuff it. Ill just let the workshop off the hook and get it fixed in Newcastle!. I just pulled the oil filter apart and the O ring was squashed so bad it was cut practically right through!. Think ill order the earls filter and fit it after all. Think ill just get some sleep for now as my head isn't right at the moment!. All that for a bloody o ring and probably a temporarily stuck footfall valve! Haha

Yeah I plan to drive it around and test it out properly... (hopefully without fine or incident!). I'm sure they are happy with their work but perhaps not too keen on the re-work. He didn't specifically say "Don't bring it back" he just asked if I had someone local that can do it as its an easy fix and would be cheap to do, but I have had experiences in the past where people have totally screwed me over so I'd be taking it back just on the principal of the issue. although I will spend my money to go buy them more royal purple oil just to ensure it is the same oil being replaced if they need to. I have some pics but don't think I have a shot of the actuater rod, I'll check (I'm at work so cant take more shots.) but when I load it up on the trailer Friday night I'll take more then and post (If I'm awake enough to remember haha) only pics I have in that region at present are as follows: (taken on Sunday Night) http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t167/treay81/IMG_1358_zpsce182c50.jpg or http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t167/treay81/IMG_1359_zps24e4399f.jpg but it doesn't give anything away as the actuator is kind of hidden there. cheers.

Well, he didn't sound real keen on me taking it back at all and was trying to convince me to take it to a local workshop as he thinks it would be a very cheap fix, But I insisted on taking it back to them just in case there is more to it, that way we know that only their workshop has touched it and they can be sure it is their responsibility rather than mixing it up with a few shops and leaving it a little grey as to who may own any defects from it. Its never easy is it!.

I spoke to the workshop this morning, they said if I can get the car back to them on Saturday morning they will fix the oil leak. He thinks the intermittent boost problems is something wrong with the intercooler piping. So instead of stuffing around I am going to order the Herrod and process west piping kit to have installed when I get there (at additional cost of course). So, another huge day in store for me this Friday as I am 500 odd kays from home (480 I think) and once home I'll load the car onto the trailer and get it to Sydney ready for open hours in the morning, once fixed I'll trailer it home then give it a going over to make sure its running again before my wife takes it back out west again. (Fingers crossed!) cheers.

I thought Blacktrack had closed?, that's why I went to Sydney as I was told they were no longer operating...
-
well, hopefully the workshop will check everything over prior to giving it back to me as I'm very nervous about the situation. Apparently they know their stuff so I shouldn't have anything to worry about but I seem to have bad luck! haha. Engine bay is a little dirty hey! haha. I do between 80 - 100K kms a year spread between my cars and a lot of that driving is out bush so they tend to get a tad dirty, but I always keep the mechanicals well serviced and try to run with high quality stuff (all of them run Royal Purple oils etc.) I'm not pissed at the workshop or anything, its obviously just a badly seated seal or o-ring etc, can happen to anyone, just hope they are willing to help me out without having to fight them over it!. on the bright side, glad It played up so early in so its easy to pin point and didn't do any major damage in the process (that I know of at this point! lol) I'll let you guys know how this goes!. cheers.

Oil is leaking from the new filter they installed which is an aftermarket setup as per pics. It is mounted on the front of the rocker cover and hooked up to braided line. I'm guessing the aftermarket filter is stuffed. I'll call the workshop tomorrow and see what they think. im just dreading the thought of getting it fixed here in Newcastle and then having the turbo go again in the near future!. think I'll just wait til I knock off and get back to Newcastle then trailer it back to Sydney to have it done. cheers.

Ok, so had it trailered home and have just put it up in my shed and inspected it with engine idling, sure enough there is oil constantly dripping from the new oil line fitted to the car by the workshop I just had it at. They fitted the speedflow filter and braided line, it must be a faulty part or something, I dont have time to investigate at present as I need to get to sort (500kms away) but I'll give the shop a call in the morning and explain it to them see what we can work out. I dont even know when I'll next be able to get it back to Sydney to get the work done, might just be easier to bite the bullet and get a local workshop to do it rather than trailer it down there again. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t167/treay81/IMG_1354_zpsbab0a7d6.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t167/treay81/IMG_1355_zps422ef5cd.jpg it wouldnt let me post pics but above are some links to my photobucket, just pics of the new oil line and filter. Does anyone think there could have been any damage occur during this little oil leak?... and any thoughts on why it would stop boosting with an oil leak?... appreciate some thoughts on the subject as im not a turbo guy, I am a V8 guy, straight forward and simple...like me haha. cheers.
-
Ok just to throw a spanner in the works. I done a u turn to go back home and now the turbo is boosting again!. Still doesn't help the problem overall but I can't think why this would be happening. All the pipe work fittings appear to be intact and connected, I can't even identify where the oil is coming from?...

Hi guys, Need some advice, had a Sydney based workshop replace the core in my turbo last week and once completed it was driven home to my house, ontop of the turbo repairs they also installed a braided line with external oil filter for the turbo It's done about 200kms since being done and I am in the middle of nowhere, my engine isn't boosting and my engine bay is covered in oil, I can't hear the turbo grinding or screeching so I'm thinking its not stuffed yet, but I am unsure as to why it is not boosting. I'm going to attempt to drive it home again, but curious to see why your initial thoughts are on my potential problems. Appreciate input.

CHeers trent. I got onto the guys from CMS. going to take it there and just get it done. now I just need to work out how im going to do that as they wont be open when I drop the car off. I'll just be happy to have it running sweet again.
-
does anyone have a number for Joe at CMS?...
-
I've never personally cleaned my turbo oil filter, I'm not actually ever home so my wife just drives it and drops it off to be serviced after picking up my oil. maybe that was the root cause hey?.... I'll probably look at just upgrading and get it over and done with!. thanks heaps.
-
Thanks for your thoughts guys. Car averages 7500km between services but due to travel was over due this time round and has done a little over 9,000 Kim's. It's $1,650 to have my turbo rebuilt with BF core and comp housing. So I guess I should factor in another $700ish for a tune and best get a tuner. What are the chances that some of these genuine used turbo's from eBay would still last another 20,000 Kim's?... There is some on there for only $700

So I bought 2 bottles of my fav royal purple oil last week so my wife could get the G6ET serviced while she was away traveling this week. She got it serviced in Dubbo NSW and low and behold, the turbo is grinding on shut down. So my wife is stuck in dubbo. I managed to borrow a car for the rest of her trip but if I don't find a solution she is stuck in dubbo til it's fixed. The car is still stock at this point, so I'm thinking of driving my f truck across from work on Saturday and towing her home so she can at least be stuck at home while the car is being repaired. Here's the problem: Buy a new stock standard turbo ($2300+) and have fitted (more $$$) or Get my turbo rebuilt with a BF comp wheel and housing then get it tuned upon return?... My exhaust is stock so not sure it will be all that effective with the upgraded turbo or if I need to replace the exhaust whilst I organize the tune as well, car has 100,000kms on it and to this point is in fantastic condition. Opinions will be most appreciated as I'm sure your all much more experienced than I am in this matter. Cheers.

HAHA, I like that, factory ejector sunroof!. Not even Ferrari has those!!

I go through a lot of cars, mainly thanks to my business and my thirst for always wanting my cars to be something nice and out of the norm. But when it comes to late model cars its like picking a winning horse, they are all in the running. if you were on the hunt for a specific combo classic, I'd say hold out as they truly make the difference, I searched for 5 months to find a vette that was what I wanted and I am so glad I waited. But its a different story with the new cars of today, they are essentially all the same so it just comes down to your combination preference. (White on black, black on cream, sat nav, 18's or 19's etc) If white is your absolute colour of choice, get that, me personally, I'd have bought the one for 22K straight up. (maybe even negotiate a full tank of juice and a carton of beer to celebrate the savings afterwards!. I originally wanted one in 'seduce' 2010 with sunroof and didnt care about wheels as I knew I'd be changing those up ASAP, the one I bought is 'Ego', I bought it for $23K with 70kms, lowered with lovells springs over Koya 20's in Ego and its a 2008 model. I would have liked to get mine with a sunroof in it, but for the price I paid and the full service history and condition it is in, I just couldn't pass it up!.
-
That looks good!. Best colour in the range in my opinion (I'm not biased at all either!). do you plan to upgrade the sway bars at all?
-
I like the overall car, love the diffuser, so with all mods to this point it was pointing towards a tribute to the lovely C63 AMG. But with the red rims it is kind of going in a Porsche RS direction... Nice either way!. I like ya stuff!.

Kind of looks like the G6ET is a young blokes car?..., Thinking maybe I need to sell mine before the coppers start pullingme up thinking im the hoon that I am... I'm 32 and have had my G since mid last year. I like it, its still stock other than lowered over 20's, I don't seem to have the budget all you young blokes have!. starting to think about selling my F Truck and start playing with the G6 for a few more pony's.
-
Yeah, My boat is basically 2,200kg but it tows real nice. I am going to a turbo as I have been told the turbo 6's are absolute tow rig weapons!... I was thinking the F6 would be the better buy to get the nice suspension, bigger brembo brakes, flash little bumper bar eyelid things and a cool little button to push when starting that makes you feel like your in the latest ferrari with a huge boot!!. But it seems to make sense to just buy the XR6T and spend money wisely into performance, handling and towing upgrades... cheers.

I'm looking to buy a new ute in the next few months. Have only just started researching them, I am currently in a 2005 BF XR8 fully opted (Leather, Premo, H/Top etc)which I have added a few mods to (headers, hi flow cats, 19 inch G6E Turb rims, Flash Tune, underdrive kit, pedders springs, Airbag load support, Hayman reece t/bar, pioneer USB/Bluetooth h/unit in console etc) Utes I have been looking at are FG XR6T - Auto, Leather, Tech = Low $30's with the mileage I will accept or: FG FPV F6 - Auto = Low $40's So, can anyone tell me if the extra $10K is worth the spend? will the F6 be the better allround buy for the extra $10K... Also: I need the ute to tow 2200kg so my next item to research is how (if at all) I can increase the amount of weight I can tow with an FG... any idea's?... can I just add load support bags an a custom tow bar then have it re-rated?... cheers

Might be worth your while to take your car to Pickles Auctions and get an appraisal, you can then use that appraisal to shop for your next car on their auctions. If you buy you just take your car in and drop it off etc and pay the difference.
