I was just being a smartarse (obviously) as I get sick of people slamming teachers... Obviously there are some (VERY) sh*t people in the profession. I am at a school now where only 3 people are capable of taking high level maths, 2 specialist maths... I want to change schools as the other two are going to retire in a couple of years... I had an experience the last term without them as they are married (for 30 years) and she had breast cancer last term... Really tested me. I was teaching all senior Maths, had about 120 kids seeing me constantly and was at school 7am till 5:30-6pm and then coming home to work. Needless to say, I am burnt out at the moment and have taken long service leave... We have heaps of kids from Afghanistan... They are amazing workers, however, most of them have no education before year 9, and work really hard to get up to higher level Maths in year 11 and 12... They are generally bright, but they demand so much help and attention... It's taken the amount of hours we work to a new level... I know some people are slackers... And some are very incompetent... We end up picking up the slack. I have in fact resigned my job as a Leading Teacher next year, as I am sick of trying to get others to an acceptable level. They are clearly incapable. If anyone who is a teacher thinks teaching is "easy" they are doing it wrong. Obviously they are oblivious to their shortcomings... Oh and re: Mensa... It all started when I used to work in IT. They had a TV show on and there was 72 questions. The guys at work asked me how I went, and I replied "I got 71"... They were surprised, and then said "we thought you would have gone better than that?"... I was like "You can only get one mark higher?"... Then they decided I was full of sh*t... They thought I meant IQ 71... Not 71/72... From there, they signed me up to do a 3 hour mensa test... On the basis that if I got an IQ above 150, I would have the afternoon off work and they would do the work for me... LOL I did it in just over an hour and got high 170s... Then I got an email from Mensa to do a real test... To see if I could get into the organisation... It went from there... Anyways... Long story short... I guess each person works varying levels in their job. I just dont get why it's not acceptable to pay teachers as much as doctors? How do doctors get their jobs? They are educated by teachers...?
