Suspension: King springs, stock shocks. Tyres: (Well used) Kumho KU36 front, Falken Azenis RT215 rear Brakes: Front 4pot Brembos. Body weight:77kg (79.25kg after a 6pack of beer)
  2. Check with the ebay seller for the date of manufacture on the Pirelli sidewall. They may be over a few years old.
  3. Also consider the Falken Azensis RT615 and the Kumho KU36.
  4. I'm intersted in these Koni Yellows. Are they are a full coilover unit with spring included, or are they shock only to work with my existing King Springs on my FG XR6T.
  5. Heading back to Marulan next Saturday September 19th. Last track day on the stock Shocks which have already done 50,000kms and a few track days.
  6. Kumho KU36 would be the closest with a 285/35 19".
  7. I've done nearly 45,000km already on my FGXR6T and was wondering if these bushes are available for the FG? I have the lower King Springs with the Stock Monotube shocks.
  8. If you aren't worried about treadwear, make sure you check the treadwear number listed on the specific tyre (lower the number, less kms they will last which usually means the stickier they are). I.e. Pretty sure the Azenis and KU36 are around the treadwear 180 mark or lower, while others on the list are well over 200-300. The tyres you have listed are very different compared to one another, and I'll give you my opinion on a few: Falken Azenis RT-615 - $330/ea (Fantastic tyre. Nearly R spec traction performance. Can't recommend them enough. Heavy, stiff sidewalls. Even heavy braking will improve dramatically with this tyre.) Nitto Invo - $310/ea (for your requirements, I'd go with these though) Toyo Proxes 4 - $300/ea (T1R will be better for your needs) Kumho KU36 - $289/ea (I've used these on the road and circuit and they aren't bad for the price. Lighter and sidewalls not as stiff as the azenis) Federal 595 - $225/ea (If you aren't worried about wear and want something stickier, look at the RSR. Kumho KU31 - $200/ea (This tyre is good for what it is, but not in the same traction league as a Azenis)
  9. Let me know how it goes. I went down to Wakefield June 21st (rained every one of my sessions) and was very disappointed with a 1min 24.......... I found it very difficut on a wet (muddy) track with such a big car. I'm heading down again in 2 weeks July 30th and can't wait! Just willing it to be dry. Will also be trying out the Racechrono software on a Windows Mobile PDA. It will be running off a seperate 5Hz Bluetooth GPS. http://www.racechrono.com/tracks/?lang=en&...=Wakefield+Park If you have a ZF 6 speed, do you know if 2nd gear is used out of the fish hook or it is quicker in 3rd (which I reckon most of the track would be taken in)?
  10. Erko gave me this advice a while back: 18x8.5 +30 if you want to run same all round With staggered 9.5 rear use +38 offset edit : note this will clear brembos just need to be careful when putting on balancing weights. a +25 offset is also avail in 8.5 and a +20 in 9.5
  11. With 18's the car will be sitting a bit lower and you have access to a wider variety of better rubber like semi slicks. My vote goes for 18's.
  12. I had similar concerns when I fitted 4 pot Brembos to my FGXR6T and took it to the track, in the rain. DSC worked fine as did the ABS.
  13. Does anyone know if Koni Yellows (adjustable on car) are available yet for the FG for both front and rear?
  14. Your Name: Paul Noble Car Make and Model: FGXR6T Circuit Name: Marulan Lap time: 47.47 (handtimed) Modifications: None at the time Engine: Stock as a rock Power: 270kW at flywheel est. Suspension: Stock Tyres: Kumho KU36 front, Falken Azenis RT215 rear Brakes: Stock with EBC red pads Body weight:77kg (79.25kg after a 6pack of beer)
  15. I have used them at the circuit and they are fantastic bang for your buck. Not quite as sticky as an R spec semi slick but stickier than just about any road tyre. More similar to the 595RSR than the MT's. MT's would be better for drags. However at under 20psi the KU36 may be ok at the drags as I found the sidewalls not as stiff as a usual circuit focused street tyre like the Falken Azenis, which may help traction at the drags. You can find the KU36 really cheap if you look hard enough which make it a good choice.
  16. You will be fine with the minimum of mods. (See my Marulan thread in this forum) The main reason I do track days in the first place is for the fun of it, and watching the times come down with each modification. If you do too many mods in one go, you never really get to experience the limitations of the stock car and hence the satisfaction of doing the mods in the first place. At bare minimum get a full service done before the track day. Engine oil/filter, new Super DOT 4 brake fluid (don't bother with 5+ at this stage) and new front brake pads. I recommend EBC Red and Yellow but Racebrakes have a lot of options. I agree, having a separate brake pad set for the track is a good idea. Track pads work completely differently to road pads and are designed to operate at higer temperatures (with more dust production) You can get away with Stock rotors but it really depends on how many laps you do. 4 laps max per session as there are 3 hard braking points at Wakefield! Wakefield in July will be VERY cold and will assist with keeping your brakes cool but still do a cool down lap at half speed after the session. Very important. Don't put your handbrake on when you get to the pits as the shoes can stick. It's a tough habit to break with an auto... :-) A track wheel alignment is also recommended with as much negative camber as you can get at the front. Usually only about 1deg. I've heard a few guys with BF's having great result with a front only Whiteline swaybar 27mm, but can't comment personally as I haven't driven one on the track, only the FG with the 30mm front. I'd recommend leaving it at this stage, then next time trying them later and feeling the difference with the Coilovers. Last thing, and most important in my opinion is tyres. Don't know what your budget stretches too but the stock tyres will be the first thing to give up at the track. Most cost effective I've found are Kumho KU36 or Federal 595RSR. Great bang for your buck. If you can afford better go with Falken RT615. Toyo R888, Bridgestone RE55 or YokoA048's will find the limits of the stock springs too quickly, but would be a good future mod. Watch a few laps of Wakefield of youtube too before you go out too. Circuit club did an article on a first timers experience at Wakefield below http://wp.circuitclub.com.au/wp-content/up.../Issue%2023.pdf Have a great day. I'm going down myself in a FG XR6T in June or July, just haven't sorted the date yet.
  17. Like looking in a mirror mate! I have exactly the same colour Lightening strike FGXR6T with genuine BA Typhoon wheels 2nd hand.......only 18" (38.5mm Front offset, 28.5mm Rear offset) So yeah..........it looks FANTASTIC! 4 pot Front Brembo's in the garage waiting to go on. The KU31's are great value in 19's. I have some KU36's for the track but run Falken FK452's on the road. Got 29,000 out of the Dunlop Sportmaxx's.
  18. Get them checked by a mechanic asap, if you are not comfortable bleeding the lines yourself. You don't want to be in an emergency on the road with a bottomless pedal. At minimum a DOT4 fluid change and have the discs machined if required. The rear pads may still be ok but the fronts may have fried. If the discs are warped or now under their minimum thickness, replace with some DBA4000 slotted.
  19. Look FANTASTIC mate!! They really suit the car and should be functional too, reducing unsprung weight nicely and the 8.5's should stop the tyres rolling on the circuit at the front compared to the 8" rims. I was going to go this way too but they were a bit too pricey so I have settled for some BA Typhoon rims. Also have Brembos (4pot) waiting to go on at the front. I've also got the lower FG XR8 intake and am still waiting for the K&N filter to fit in it (group buy on another forum) I'm very interested to hear how the Pedders coilovers do at the track too, as these will very likely be my next mod. (You have definitely done your homework in making a great car even better without spending big $$$)
  20. Still aiming to go down to Wakefield Sunday 21st of June with the MX5 club. Using up the last of my EBC red pads on the stock calipers and rotors. Will still be running stock springs and shocks too. I expect to piss off a lot of MX5 drivers by holding them up the entire back section and then passing them half way down the straight.
  21. I have used KU36 at the track/road (good value semi slick but sidewalls a bit thin on circuit direction change) and Adrenalins???(Don't bother. An ok road tyre but don't provide anywhere near the grip of the KU36....trust me) However, neither come close to the grip of the Falken Azenis RT615's when warm, for the money. It is in a league of it's own and the only thing stickier are full R spec tyres like R888's or RE55's but get too expensive to use as a daily tyre and pick up too much crap on the road.
  22. I've seen some 18" 255's Falken Azenis RT615 for $350ea on ebay recently. I highly recommend the Azenis range. I was blown away when I first tried the older RT215's....so much grip when warm. These 255's will hook up better than just about any other 265 street legal tyre in my opinion.
  23. Stickiest tyres you will get for under $300 (set of 4 I.e. under $75 ea!!!) are on ebay now!! Falken RT215 235 45 17"
