+1 for not having a cat any more. Take my advice, if you can get a loan for 10K to buy an atomic motor, go out and enjoy that power then put a built motor in it... if 10k is too steep, park it up till your tuner gets back, cos the temptation may just get the better of ya. good luck

Where do I start... I used to run penrite oil in the 'T' before it blew up, now I have the FG F6 short motor in it and it's done roughly 10000k's. We ran it in on Castrol Magnetic for the first 1000k's, changed the oil and filter, and I was putting off changing the oil untill now as this week I'm off travelling roughly 1500k's in a weekend, and next week I'm heading down to Hervey bay where I'll be getting a tranny service done, and the centre diff bush replaced along with a couple of other little niggling things, all up it will be about a 2500k round trip. So, I bought some Nulon 10w40 and a new filter, did my usual 45min service and checked that everything under the car was sweet before the trip, and upon start up the car seemed quiter, yeah oil can do that. Then, I shifted into 'D' and no noise at all from the tranny, went for a drive and the car seemed a LOT quieter to the extent that I could swear even the exhaust note at 60kph was quieter. Put my foot down and brought it into boost, and the turbo seemed to sound nicer too... Anyhow, I picked up the missus, and she notice that the transmission didn't 'clunk' like it always does, and when we were driving se said "the car sounds quieter today, what have you done to it now". As if to imply that I spent more money on it without her knowledge. I haven't smoked any hooter, I've not been drinking for the past 6 days, and I haven't bumped my head recently (to my knowledge). Can an oil and filter change really do this, or have all our little problems somehow been realted to using a cheaper oil?

drew, I'm with bhp crinum, and am looking at doing the same thing on a 2nd hand terry turbo ghia. From what I gathered in my talks with leaseplan, I can pay up to 20% on the vehicle on sign-up, and due to it being a lease vehicle, I don't pay any GST on it. At the end of the term, I can sell the car on, and pay out the residual, any profit I pocket, or, I can hand it back, and sign on for a new lease. One thing I did notice is I was given standard customer service, when I was talking with their consultant, but when she found out I was a bhp employee, she said that I get a better deal as I'm sure she said 90% of BHP's leases go through them. I do know she said that the GST on the vehicle was removed from the purchase price, and that I should take that into consideration when getting prices on a vehicle, as it will bring the price down.

After reading all this I can't believe that no one posting (or related to them) was stung by work choices? I work in the mines, and am a union member, so read into that what you may. But, Labor got a pay increase for the lower income earners, LNP barred it off, Labour is pushing for a 12% Super rather than the 9% we have now, LNP is gonna sh*t can that too. Look at how Abbott came into power, when the mining companies couldn't get their way with the federal gov on their $10B ambit claim over emissions trading, they instigated a revolt against Malcolm Turnbull, abbott is now the mining bosses puppet. Working for BHP/BMA, It's been a huge talking point at work. BHP, Rio, Xstrata all reached an agreement to pay the tax. Does anyone seriously believe that the 3 biggest mining companies in the world would agree to a tax if it was bad for business? Tony Abbott owes his leadership position to the Mining bosses, so they will be demand more industrial relations changes. So, he'll hand them back their $10.5B, and owe it to them big time if he gets ellected, and 'work choices' will be back on the agenda.

I'd upgrade from the Process west stage 2 cooler, to Kev's stage 3 cooler... I did this and the difference was noticible in warmer conditions, and after some spirited driving. Oh, and do you have a hard tonneau cover? the drag without one is huge!

Here in QLD, some range from stock, to modified for highway use... I distinctly remember seeing 2 xr6 t's 2 years ago at the all ford day up here, one from emerald and one from moranbah, both with big ss cold air inductions, and with modified suspension. Apparently according to the officers on show with the cars a modified tune supplied by ford, that raised the performance to that od a typhoon.
