  1. I think a DYNO is a good idea. Cheers.
  2. Just ordered a flash tuner from CAPA for my XR6T. Very very excited!! Felt like I had to tell someone. Wife doesn't understand!!! Cheers.
  3. G'day to all, Had a search through the forum but couldn't find an answer. I had the XR6T (03 BA) lowered on king springs with SL all around and a set of new tyres all on the stock 17's yesterday. Very happy with the result. However, I have noticed that at very slow speeds, for example, turning into my drive way at home, I now get a vibration through the power steering that never used to be there. Apart from this the car still drives very well. Has anyone experienced this problem before? Is it a result of the lowering or is my power steering stuffed with the extra bit of pressure as the result of the lowering. Worried that I am doing damage! Would love to hear your thoughts. Cheers. Plasmid2.
  4. thanks for the reply guys! Cheers.
  5. G'day, Have been doing some research on tyres on this site as I am almost due for some new ones. The car (03 BA T) is completely stock and I plan to keep the stock 17's but I am a bit confused about tyre profile size. Currently the stock dunlops are 235/45R17. I came across a thread on here about putting on 235/55R17. What does this mean? Will this put your speedo out? Does the car sit slightly higher off the road because of the higher profile? What would be a reason to put a higher profile tyre on anyway? Also, will the gap between the tyre and the wheel arch be smaller therefore? Apologies for all the questions. Thanks for your time. Cheers.
  6. cheers. Will check it out.
  7. G'day to all. Does anyone know if there are Ford wreckers around Melbourne? Preferably in the south east. I know of a few Expensive Daewoo ones. In the past I have been able to pick up parts at a reasonable price for when I owned a Holden. Cheers. Plasmid2
  8. So it won't pass an EPA test? Is this correct? The guys at Daalder didn't say anything! It's loud but not rudely loud. My neighbour has a worked up green volkswagon beetle that is louder! Infact with the windows down it really is not that very loud. Very strange!
  9. $110 Well worth it.
  10. G'day to all, Well after 49 pages I decided to get the center muffler removed. I have to say I am not disappointed at all. It sounds great!! Got it done at Daalder exhaust at Dandenong whome were awesome. However, this is a big thank you to the bloke with the XR8 that I was speaking to in the waiting room. I loved your enthusiasm about cars and in particular Falcons. It wasn't 'till after you left (XR8 sounded great by the way) that I found out that you donated your exhaust flanges to me, so the guys at Daalder did not have to cut my muffler up. So if I ever need to put the muffler back on I can just remove some bolts. Once again, thanks. I know it's was nothing big. But it made my day. Cheers.
  11. Sorry I should have explained better. All I have done is removed the factory air box and replaced it with a pod filter. So the pod sits in the engine bay. After doing some reading on the forum a lot members spoke about this not being the best set up as it will draw in hot air. Plus I believe pod filters are not street legal. So not any member in particular. Apologies for that. What I meant about physics, was, what is actually happening within the system. I am only hearing the 'whooshing' sound when I accelerate hard than come off the throttle when driving. So coming off boost. As I come off the throttle, it is accompanied by the 'whooshing' sound. Is the air I am hearing air back through the turbo? I didn't think it could be as there is a factory BOV. As the only thing I have changed is the filter set up (as I explained above) I thought it might be air venting back out the pod!!?? I was just making sure I wasn't doing any damage somehow. What you have explained kind of makes sense though. Cheers.
  12. G'day to all, Against many forum members advice I went ahead and fitted a pod filter. It sounds awesome!! Now... I know there is a thread somewhere here but I can't find it. At closed throttle why is there now a 'whooshing' sound? Everything else on the car is stock. Is this air going back through the pod filter into the atmosphere? What is the physics of it all? What is happening? I do love it though!! Cheers.
  13. thanks senna-T. The car is an BA '03. Not under warranty!! I actually rang the mechanic again because I was concerned. He was happy to talk about it. He said it was very common and that he had another XR6T in there with the same problem (I actually saw it in there when I dropped mine off). Infact, he said they were doing at least 2-3 of them every month and thinks it might be a manufacturers fault! He also said that once fixed it should be reliable again.
  14. g'day all, From a previous thread I posted about a rear end noise in my XR6T. 79000 kms, auto and completely stock. Have only had the car for about four months. Finally got the car into the mechanics to be looked at after the car developed a rear end noise. However, she still drove with no problems apart from an annoying rhythmical clunking noise. I was told that they removed the diff oil and found metal shavings in the oil that initially suggests diff/axle bearings?? The mechanic said it was a common problem and doesn't think there will be anything wrong with the wheel and pinion?? (I hope I got all my terminologies correct). However, will not know until it is all removed and sent away. Anyway, I have been quoted $1500 for parts and labour and will not get the car 'till sometime next week. Does all this sound correct to everyone? I am by no means a mechanic and completely new to Ford's. Also, the noise only developed a couple of weeks ago. Is it possible the seller new about the problem before it was sold? Or is it just a wear and tear issue? Thanks for your time.
  15. G'day again. Just to add to earlier thread. I just went for a drive and have noticed that the rattle noise is definitely constant and seems to get slower as the car slows down. Can't seem to notice it when accelerating or when doing over 80 km/hr. Also noticeable/or a faster rattle just as I get off the throttle which doesn't make sense. The noise is almost like when you have a large stone stuck in the tyre thread. (yes I have checked the tyres). Dane01 I also checked the wheel jack. It's all secure. I apologize if all this sounds stupid. Any ideas would be appreciate it. Thanks.
  16. G'day all, It's been a while. Good to see the site going strong. I have searched the forum but can't seem to find an answer to my problem. I have an '03 XR6T with 78000 kms. Auto. No mods. On my way work the other day and under some heavy acceleration I heard a bit of a clunk. Nothing too loud. Since then it has developed a bit of a sound. The best I can describe it is a rattle sound. Even that is probably not a good description. It only seems to happen immediately after I come off the throttle. I only know a little bit about cars. However it seems to be coming from the rear. Only happens when I am driving. It still drives well. After investigating the engine bay, listening to the engine and having a look underneath the car there are no obvious signs of damage or leaks or anything loose. Any suggestions. Your time is appreciated. Thanks.
  17. Thanks guys. I just did a google images search for garret turbo. All the images I could find show what I described. I think it might be normal. If any one is interested check out the link below. Thanks for all the info. I have so much to learn and read. http://www.hdindustries.com.au/shop/images/turbo1.JPG
  18. G'day all, I am new to the site, new to turbo's and infact completely new to Ford's after being a Expensive Daewoo man for so long. I have purchased an 03 BA XR6T two weeks ago. It has 76000km's and is completely stock. Curiosity got better of me and I decided to tinker around. I took off the hosing that goes from the top of the engine straight into the turbo. I firstly wiped away some oil (I presume oil) then with my finger spun the fan/blades in the turbo. I noticed a part of one of the fan/blades was a slightly different colour to the rest. At first I thought it was just dirty. I have been trying to insert a picture to show but haven't had any luck uploading. The fan/blades spin freely, the car drives really well and the turbo seems to make all the right whistle/sounds/noises!! Can anyone shed some light? Not sure if I should be worried yet!!
