  1. costs completely depend on what your doing with the car pc. $500 should see all the hardware (except the LCD but it sounds like you want to use the stock screen anyway) to get a basic computer running. as for the gauges there are quite a few OBDII programs around that will display gauges on the screen. pcmscan is the only one I can think of atm. they should all work fine with one of the $30 chineese rip off ELM327 boxes from ebay so that side of it should be cheap to set up too. check out www.mp3car.com forums for more info
  2. just double checked some of the stock tunes have here. BA1 and BA2, auto and manual, turbo and NA all have the rev limiter set at 6200 not 5600. the only ones that are different are the ones that have been tuned.
  3. since when is the rev limiter set to 5500? should be closer to around 6200 as for the cutting out I have recently had the same thing. I changed coils, plugs and fuel filter then finally changed the fuel pump and havent seemed to have an issue since. mine was leaning out quite badly in top end though (stock tune and not doing it every time) and sometimes stuttering at idle. take it to a proper mechanic for servicing and get it on a dyno to check AFRs
  4. not 100% but I would assume its different between the single disc and the 6 stacker. if everything looks the same its worth a shot though
  5. not really any pros that I can see. you wouldnt have to buy a flash box which would make it cheaper, but you seem to already have one so that isnt an issue. cons would be that you dont have your flash box so if you get stuck out in the middle of no where you cant just swap from a 98 octane tune to a 95 tune to get you home. without the flash box you lose data logging ability (assuming xcal2+ and assuming you can get the sh*tty SCT software to work) but I doubt that will bother many people. personally I think if you have the flash box stick with it
  6. nope just the standard facia repainted. it is the premium one with colour screen and dual climate control though (standard on FPV?) you can get the facia from ebay and just swap all your stuff over

    Vcm Tune

the 'stock' tune on the SCT box will be whatever is on the car when you first connect the box. if your planing on moding things more then your current tune and the original stock tune will both be pretty useless to you so it wont make much difference.
  8. stock tune might not like the mods you have. is it an xcal 2 or 3? if so it can read trouble codes and do some data logging with the SCT LiveLink (I think) software. might help track down where the problem is
  9. could be throttle body? maybe fuel filter? has it only just started doing it? you may have got some bad fuel my car has the surging thing atm too. I have changed plugs, coils and fuel filter. after checking AFRs it is leaning out in top end (on stock tune) so next up is fuel pump :(
  10. http://www.dashdaq.com/specs/entirespec.htm the DashDaq device may also be of interest to you. pretty sure there is no AU dealer for it though
  11. pretty sure groper (I think) had it working on the BF. there was some vids of his car on youtube with launch control and flat shift working
  12. pretty sure it has been done before. I remember hearing someone paid around the $500 mark to have all the locks in the car changed so he could get the FG flip key
  13. haha VCM is the reason I bought my second ECU. be careful with ford. every BA/BA2 I have seen them reflash comes back with no VIN. not sure if the parameter reset is going to reflash it or not though. just make sure they know whats going on. if they are a good dealer they should be able to write the VIN to your current ECU with the IDS software... my dealer wont even answer my questions anymore so im pretty stuck :( any idea who I would call/talk to about aranging this? would be awesome to be able to use VCM seeing as I bought it about 6 months ago >.<
  14. as far as I know the ecus are mostly the same. I think it may be different hardware between the BA and BF but different varients in each model should be able to use the same ECU as long as ford program it right (or you should be able to do it yourself, but its rather expensive to get set up for that)
  15. I picked one up from ebay not long back. wasnt cheap though
  16. you possibly have no VIN info stored in your PCM. I have seen a fair few BAs that have the same thing after being reflashed by ford. as far I know it shouldnt effect the xcal boxes as they just lock to whatever is there but your car wont be able to be tuned by VCM Suite until you can convince ford that the VIN should be in the PCM... good luck with that
  17. that is degrees c. my xr6 turbo is exactly the same as above
  18. there are quite a few of us around in townsville and cairns and even I think 1 from tully. im keen to see who else is in townsville. seems to be a lot more poping up lately
  19. does it happen constantly or only after driving for a while? mine does the same thing, but only after the car has been running for a while (roughly 1.5hrs, mostly sitting idle but it does the same thing after cruising on the highway for a bit too). turning the car off then on again fixes it and I dont seem to get error codes every time it happens. keen to see how you go with changing coils. I think that's next on my list of things to replace :(
  20. I dont think I have heard too much bad about Bob Hawkins except I havent found anyone who likes him. pretty sure the only other dyno in town is Aikenvale Auto and I wouldnt take a Expensive Daewoo there to be tuned :(
  21. dont know for sure that the dyno is reading high, but some of the numbers coming out of TMS seem really high for whats done no idea if he has a shop or what he calls himself, but Dave down in Mackay has a really good name. probably worth the few hrs drive to go see him
  22. where in townsville did you get it dynoed? most workshops up here have a pretty poor name and at least 1 of the dynos seems to read really high (300rwkw with just an exhaust) so you may not really be making the power your dyno sheet says :(
  23. I have had the same issue for several months. fuel filter, plugs and throttle body have all been changed. have got fuel from a few different places so it shouldnt be fuel. it started out really random and seemed to get worse after a service. I have also noticed lately it seems to do it more just after the battery has been disconnected. I have got an error code of Throttle Control System Actuator or something like that which searching around for leads me back to a TPS issue. I received some more information about it tonight (info is from the BOSS engines, but I assume should be similar) that indicates it may be related to the oil used on the K&N air filter, which would explain why it got worse after a service. everyone says to clean the throttle body and try it again so ill clean up the spare one I have on my next day off and see how it goes. apart from that I have also heard that the throttle control module under the dash (the pedal) may be the cause of it. Ferntree Gully Auto quoted about $120 for the part I think, but apparently you need to pull the dash out to replace it so im not keen on doing that just yet. My car is an 05 BA2 xr6t. currently has 48000km and has been doing it since about mid 20000km.
  24. it can. there is plenty of software available to use the elm box. the $40 ebay job is likely to be a cheap chinese rip off but is fine for general use, but the interface will only operate at 9600 or 38400 baud compared to the 500kbit of the CAN Bus. Shouldnt be a problem for most use unless you want to go playing around manually collecting and sorting through CAN messages
  25. probably a stupid question, but are you pressing the button on the ICC (the volume button I believe) to turn the radio on? a mate did the same thing yesterday after we added the RCA outputs to his ICC and thought we broke it. turns out the radio just wasnt turned on
