Thanks, This may sound silly, but I thought stall convertors were just for Automatic cars? If they are for manuals how do they work?

Hey mate. I'm about to have my NA BF XR6 tuned in a few weeks. From what I have heard the factory tune makes them run a little rich, basically for the wost case senario. When they tune the car they run it a little more lean etc. They basically edit your air fuel ratio along with other things and get it all to compliment any mods you may have. From what I understand you could see results anywhere form 15-20rwkWs. If your just looking at a straight out of the box generic tune, don't be suprised if you get 6rwkW. Its obviously better for an NA to get a custom tune, but it is a fair bit more expensive. I am no expert, but from what I have found this seems to be the case. Cheers, Brett.

Group Buy: Mal Woods Short Throw Shifter T56 - $330 delivered

Does anyone have any details??? Boosted_SA how many more do we need. I am definately in? -
Also mate you do realise that not everyone in this NA fourm can afford to own a Turbo. Mine was personal choice, but let the NA guys enjoy their cars, because they are still great Falcons regardless of power output.
-
Hahaha.....Nice try mate. Seriously I am happy with the NA, and if I were to upgrade in a few years I would go the XR8 not the mighty 'T'. I perefer the NA power delivery for my style of driving. Its just personal preference. No offence to any of you Turbo boys but I drive a mates XR6T with tune etc. and then I drove another mates 5.4L BA GT, and I prefered the GT. Both were fantastic cars, but the NA is for me.....

Mate I'm talking about using driver skill with the equipment I have to get off the line, not cheating by using the billion rwkWs hidden in the T...... I purchased the NA because it was a better package than any T that I was looking at and I am more than happy with my choice.

Hey guys, Just a question to any manual BA/BF guys on how they launch their car? Just want to know what people have found works best to get off the line quickly. (what rpm etc...) I just want to work out how to get off the line quicker than these auto guys who just stomp it and don't have to worry about feeding in the power. I have a BF XR6 NA with a 6 speed Manual Trans. Cheers Brett.

Group Buy: Mal Woods Short Throw Shifter T56 - $330 delivered

Hey guys, I am very interested in getting a short shifter for my car. When were you thinking of putting in the order? It just depends when you do it. Also i have never done a group buy before. How do we make payment? Brett. -
So far I have done a typhoon cold air intake with K&N filter, Herrod stainless steel exhaust and headers, under drive pulley and its about to go in for a custom tune. I heard that it is best to have everything fitted before a tune hence why I was starting to consider the the diff gears. that's pretty much everthing you can do to the NA before looking into cams etc, and to be honest if I was going to do that I may as well have joined all you turbo guys.

Hi guys, I have a BF XR6 NA with a 6 speed manual Transmission. Could anyone tell me what the existing diff gear ratio is in the car? Also I have heard people say that upgrading to a 4.1:1 will use a great amount of fuel, but given that I have the 6 speed manual would it be better than using the 4 speed auto in terms of consumption? I was thinking that since there are more gears it would keep the revs a little lower, but I am not sure. What would be the best ratio for my car to keep a balance of daily and a little more punch off the mark. Cheers Brett.

Hi, Just want some advice on King Springs for my BF XR6. By the looks of it everyone is pretty much using SL Fronts and SSL Rears. I was just wondering if anyone has progressive rate springs for ride quality. (not sure if they even make them for the BF) After having them fitted would I need a camber kit? Also do you need to the the shock absorbers as well or is this not nessesary? How much firmer is the ride, and is it still comfortable for using everyday? Sorry to be long winded but I just really want to know what I am up for. Cheers Brett.

Hi, I want to paint my new brake calipers before I have the brake kit fitted to the car. I purchased the BF XR6T/XR8 upgrade for my XR6 NA. My question is I am not sure what I can paint and what can not get any paint on it. If anyone has any pics or diagrams etc that would be great. Basically I just don't want to stuff them up. Do most people paint the caliper or do they also paint the bottom section of the assembly as well? Sorry I don't know what it is called. I am also looking to paint the hub so that it won't rust. Was looking at using VHT which I believe does not need any primer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Brett.

I have updated the photoshop image so that the black is a little more realistic on the badges. I'm still unsure if I am going to do it or not. Any input would be great, and be as honest as you like! Cheers, Brett.

I probably made the badge a little bit too dark in photoshop. In reality its most likely a bit lighter than that. The reason I am thinking of matt black is because at the end of the year I am having a full showcar detail to the paint so it will be extremely glossy. If the badge was that glossy it might end up lost on the car. Hopefully the matt black will not catch the sunlight when the rest of the car does and will then become visible against the duco. I got the idea from looking at the old Camry Sportivos which had a matt charcoal badging and then I started looking further into it and found that the Brabus Mercedes also had something similar. Thanks Purvie I appreciate your input and great advice.

Hi, Was just wanting peoples thoughts on an idea that I had. I have photoshopped matt balck badges on my car including the chrome strip under the tail lights. I was thinking about going for a stealth theme to the car and I already have the 18" XR rims with Dark Argent infill. I was thinking of using a matt black paint so that you could still see the badge in contrast to the high gloss of the paint. Just thought it was a bit different than going for a debadge and it still pays subtle respect to the XR. Let me know your thoughts on the idea! Also does anyone know how to neatly put them back on after I paint them? Would 3M tape be the go and then I would have to trim around each letter/number? Brett.

'Rated X' your badge looks really good. I want to do my badges but was wondering how to go about doing it. How did you stick them back on the car and did you have any trouble? Any advice would be a great help to me. Brett.

Yeah its an NA. That does make sense with the turbo versions. I spoke to my Ford Dealership who said that given it was a Herrod system it may or may not come on.
-
Hi, I have a BF XR6 and have fitted a complete Herrod Exhaust system on the car including headers and high flow cat. Before my car went in for the system the engine light was on due to failure of the old cat. Since the new system the light has gone away and the car has not been custom tuned. Given that its a BF is it odd that the engine light has not come on and put the car in limp home mode, as I have probably driven a good 500kms or so now? Cheers Brett.

So basically the rear calipers are the same as the XR6T but they were able to fit a larger rotor to them or were they still an overall larger single piston caliper? If so does that mean I can just fit the larger rotor onto my single piston or will I have clearance issues? I know the front twin piston caliper was a little larger than my current twin piston. I am roughly putting out maybe 165rwKW, so no its not huge amounts of power at all. Does that mean I just need to upgrade to larger discs only and forget the caliper upgrade?

Hi, I own a BF XR6 NA and I need to think about upgrading my brakes now that I have put a few mods on the car. I believe that the BF platform got an upgrade from the BA throughout the range and I think this was more so on the rear of the car. (I might be wrong) My question is does anyone know if the XR6T & XR8 brakes on the BF were just a front upgrade or did they also upgrade the rears as well from the BF XR6 NA that I have? I know on the BA's the 'premium brake upgrade" was just the front calipers only, and the rears were left as standard single piston. I just don't kow if I need to buy front and rear calipers to match the BF XR6T or XR8 spec or if front only are required. Any help/advice would be great. Cheers Brett.

Hi, Just wondering if anyone else has seen the premium number plates ie (BB435J) in South Australia in an inverted colour combination (black background and white letters). I have the white background version of this style slimline plate but have seen the odd porsche and bmw with the black ones. They don't appear on the ezyreg website. Were these a limited run? Cheers Brett.

I'm thinking of fitting the new exhaust including the cat and headers but not having it tuned. That way I can change back to the old exhaust at any time if I need a warranty job done. Only problem is that being a BF the orange engine light will come on dash due to the oxygen sensor. Do you think it would be ok to just drive around with that light on for a few months until warranty is basically up, or is it too risky and I might miss a 'real' problem because of it? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
-
The cat is stuffed. Ford looked at it already and it is rattling really badly. The oxygen sensor was not removed either. Both are still on the car and working correctly hence picking up the issue with the existing cat.
-
the cars warranty is up in april 09. its an 06 BF XR6. The cat is not being replaced because the owner before me had a small section of pipe replaced just behind the cat where the oxygen sensor meets. Apparantly this void warranty on the whole exhaust system. For a guess the car might have been out in the country and something has damaged it so it was replaced quickly and not through Ford. Since then the Cat has decided to give up and has made the engine light appear on dash. Rather than spending $1100 on Fords cat only, I decided to get a complete Herrod system. When the guys at the exhaust shop were about to install it they found the head leaking, so the exhaust was not installed and the car was taken straight to Ford. I just dont want another major thing like a head going in a short period of time if I fit the Herrod. I just seem to have run into a bit of bad luck with 2 things happening in a very short time frame.
-
Hi, I have a BF XR6 and I which I am about to put a full Herrod Stainless steel syetsm on because of a warranty issue with Ford not wanting to replace the existing cat. convertor. I was just about to have the system installed when I found that their was a major issue with the head which was sent back and is now being fixed under warranty. The only reason for the exhaust is that a factory cat costs $1100 apparently and a full system is not that much more expensive. Once I get it back it needs a new exhaust striaght away as it is just about to give up, and I was advised not to drive it. My question is once I fit the exhaust & headers I know that my warranty on the engine will be gone. I was just wondering what the risk of doing this is? What problems have people found to be common on the BF platform? At the end of the day its a relatively new car and how many more things could possibly go wrong in 7 months... Cheers Brett.
