  1. I remember driving down to Geelong with my brother in his old VW beetle. Had an 1100 donk in it. Nearing the Avalon overpass the thing lunches itself. We had it towed to my cousins in Geelong. He work for FORD but he had this German mechanic mate who "Tinkered" with VeeDubs. We left it there a week and came back to be told not to go over 60 k for a week and then give it stick. On the way home all we could hear was this hissing noise coming from the back. We stopped and opened the "boot". 2 wopping big carbs sticking out like dogs b***s. Turns out this German "Mate" was a retired Porshe developement engineer that tinkered with VW like toys,. He chucked in a 1600 or 1800 (I dont remember) Combi van motor with 2 down draft carbs (dont know specs). The thing was as worked as they could be back then. God it flew...for a VW. My point is that this thing went like the powers. It would have had little real power, but the points been made it had bugger all weight and NO comfort. Only an AM radio, the wipers didnt really work and I think it was even a 6 volt system. Some goose in a Corona ran up our backside about 8 months later and totalled it. Shame.
  2. I never got a chance to drive a Charger. I knew the Hemi made for a quick car. Was it true they wouldn't turn corners though? They werent a bad looking car either. As for GTs, well, that for me is THE Muscle car. I read an article, YEARS back about the Phase 4. I think that was around the time that they wanted to phase out V8s wasn't it, or the battle of Monaro V GT was getting silly? Whats happened since then???
  3. Hi Everyone. I was chatting to my brother in China (Havent seen him for a few years) and was telling him about my new XRT with a stock 245 KW. We discussed the "good 'ol days" and the V8s we used to drive and he asked me how the XRT stacked up. I have to say it frightened me when I looked at camparative KW of those old cars. My first car was a rice burning Mazda 808. I doubt it had a KW rating (couldn't find one anyway) VH Commdore - 253 V8 (Stock) 115 KW XE Falcon 351- 149 KW Turbo Cordia (remember them?) 116 I think. VL Turbo Late model camira 150 KW. Now in their day, although stock, these were beasts. He (my brother) just couldn't believe that stock, the XRT put out 245!!! Does anyone else out there remember a car they thought was pretty quick only to find it pales into insignifigance against some of the cars out today? Not just the XRT. The RA Clubby puts out 307. Some of you guys are getting 400. For a street car!!! that's awsome. Anyway, just thought is worth noting. Maybe the good ol days werent so good.
  4. If it was me I may quiz her about it. Really depends on what she had done to make me pull her over. I was a bit of an arse in that if they made me get out of the var to pull them up, then they were in the book, but I mellowed towards the end, that (and other reasons) is why I left. But I had a "get of jail free" phrase that no one EVER said. That was, "What can I say, you've got me." It comes from a training video that was so cheezy I just figured if anyone ever said that, didnt matter what they had done, I'd let them go. So as far as your daiughters sticker is concerned, she may get chatted up, but the chance of a let off is little. Try the blue ribbon on the antenna maybe???
  5. Thanks guys. Looks like a custom tyune may be the way to go. How to I find the sponsors on this site> Excuse my ignorance. Also, I found a couple of cold air intaks on Ebay. IS there something in particular I should look for? Im very mindful of warranty so just want to make sure I get a little of the potential out of waht will no doubt be a great car. I am so looking forward to picking it up on the weekend. My poor NA XR6 just feels so flat compared to the Turbo. Anyway, any help would be great. Also, do you giuys know if theres any XR clubs that meet for drives or events? I was going to join the XR6 owners club but have never gotten any feedback as to whether its worth it. Thanks.
  6. Hi Guys. Getting myself an XRT. BF II 6Sp Auto, 18" wheels, the usual. I wanna keep it nice as it's a family car (yeah right). But seriously, I hear about the CAPA tune, and these other mods. I read about lineal power delivery (which I like). I don't want a monster I can't handle but I wouldn't mind tricking it up from the 245 up to say 270 or there abouts. Does increasing the boost help a little? It's only got a few ks on it (Under 8,000) so it will be a while till I tinker, bbut what should I aim for? Im breaking the budget getting the thing so it will be a little while before I can spend a great deal. Anyway, would appreciate any suggestions. Im in Melbourne by the way so if there is any custom tune places in Vic please let me know. Thanks.
  7. Firstly I assume your a Breeze owner? If so, yep great colour. Second, its great to hear that someone knows their Simpsons. Your SPOT on Bro. Cheers.
  8. I'll tell you now guys, and not wishing to digress into an ex police car forum, but I drove highway cars in Victoria from 1984 till 1990. The first I drove was the XE Falcons with the Cleveland 5.8. The last I drove as a highway copper were the VL Turbos. MOST of them had less that 180KW (which is obviously less than the current NA XR6 motors. Now, lets dispel any rumours. NO CAR IN THE WORLD will go faster than a police car. WHY? Cause when I drove them THEY WERENT MINE and I didn't give a rats if I saw valves coming through the bonnett. I remember driving a VK Late model camira one shift and I went through a tank of juice in 175 ks. YES we thrashed them. Whether they were stock or not, it didn't matter. Now the VH/VK commodores you didnt know if youd get 160 or 210 kmh out of them. The VLs would ALWAYS give you 200 plus. The XE was a MONSTER and I can't remember the fastest I ever went in one but it was around 220 and at that speed they stuck to the road very well. I did drive one of the first Chevy powered Commodores that the police got. It was a beast and didnt valve bounce which was so refreshing. I took it for a punt up the Tulla Fwy and it got to 170 nicely but I ran out of road due to traffic so wound it back. I then got straight into a WRX and despite it being a pain in the ass for room (what with firearm, handcuffs and crap in my belt) it went quite well, but instead of gears I was looking for the "beat, Mix" settings as it was a bloody mixmaster. Now heres the deal. Up until 2002, 2003, Vicpol would buy "fleet pack" that had no radio and it was only 1982 we got air. But around 2002, Ross McGrice, the public servant in charge of Transport Branch was told, "Make it Profitable" So he started to buy actual SS commodores that had a better resale. Geez they even experimented with an Anti Terrorism BMW with bullet proof glass ect. It weighed over 2 tonnes. But he couldnt justify it so knocked it back. There were some guys who had mates who would get cars "tricked". sh*t, with the VN and VK commodores I used to love turning the air filter cover over. It made no diff to speed but it sounded great!!!. I know one guy got charged internally because he had his Late model camira lowered. He was a goose but it showed that it was done. There are stories here and there about police cars being souped up but the truth is, they go well cause they are thrashed, they usually don't get to cool down, and they are serviced , well in my day, every 5000 kms. Now since I have left, police drive around in XR8s, XRT, full SS commodors, Explorers. They are all owned by the Commonwealth Bank "well they were" and are usually retired around 40,000k to keep resale. The amazing thing is that my NA XR6 has more power than the V8s I used to thrash. Scarey thought that a P Plater can drive one but that's another issue. So whether they trick up the cars or not is really neither here nor there but beleive me when I answer the question "What is the fatest car in the world??? "SOMEONE ELSES CAR"??? Anyway, I am so glad you guys/girls keep this discussion going. It shows that the site is alive and well. Cheers.
  9. You're probably right but I had bought it by then anyhow. Heres a pic. I'm not keen on the grey bits, but they are growing on me.
  10. Oh sorry. Why didnt I go FG?? Honestly, Im not into them at all. Nice car but I prefer the BA/BF. I think its more "robust". The new ones look a bit more luxury than muscle. But I'm just being honest.
  11. Hi Guys. Seems this site is alot more alive than I had thought which is great. Ok, the build date is November 2007 so its arguable about being one of the last but it would have to be up there. With only 8k on the clock its lower than what I got my old one which had 17k. What the dealer has done for the extra 5 is this. They service the local Police Traffic BF Turbo which apparently is tricked to by 5Kw. Now being an ex Police Highway man myself I dont find this hard to beleive. The policy on mods with VicPol cars has changed significantly over the past 10 years and an ECO mod is certainly possible. Anyway, when they serviced the Police BF they downloaded the ECU and kept the details and had applied it to one in the yard and they said they would do it to mine if I wanted. Now, before you go saying its a crock ect ect, it may well be. But given that I know so little about mods to these things as yet, and will be looking to hopefully trick it a bit, I really don't know what way is up. It certainly wasn't a selling point so I havent paid anything extra. I do know that the one I test drove did seem to go well but I don't really think you could feel an extra 5kw. Anyway, I hope that answers your questions. It'll probably cause heaps more. Anyway, I am looking forward to learning the mods I can make without breaking the bank (Which I'm already doing) Cheers all.
  12. I bought my first XR6 (Non Turbo) in 2005 just after my slag wife left me (I look upon my XR6 as my 2nd marriage) The car has been great except for some Diff noise and hand brake issues. After searching for one of the last Ford Exec Bf MKII Turbos which were spec'd to the Max I finally found one. It has the extra grey bits they put on the last lot but it has the grey 18" wheels that really set it off. It's been tricked up by the dealer to 250Kw which is not a big jump I know but I can't wait to get it in my Garage. I absolutely LOVED my Mandarine BA II, I just hope my new babe is as good. Looking forward to reading all the posts on this site and learning a few things.
